Yet you insulted multiple people on this thread. I didn't go far to call anyone a scumbag or something like that. At best I said their way of thinking is wrong and medieval. That after being called "thief" and "criminal", which is far worse, IMO. You get what you give, as far as I am concerned at this point. Also, I find Jenkin's theories overrated. Especially when he discusses convergence culture which I always found problematic. Not familiar with the work you cited, but I am more in line with the criticisms Jenkin's got from the likes of Graeme Turner and others on convergence culture. I also fail to see how this justifies piracy, as the foreword of the book you mentioned is more in line with general concepts of participatory culture through the stickiness/spreadability buzz words, which is not as participatory as you think, I would argue. Piracy is antithetical to that as it takes place outside the normal participation of media and is often for selfish over selfless purposes.

"You may have your own opinion on piracy, but we don’t permit linking to pirated content or game breaking cheats." This is a correct quote of our policy, you are indeed allowed to have your own opinion on piracy. My own opinion is that 'thief' or 'scumbag' would be wholly appropriate terms for those who steal games, but maybe other mods have their own opinions, who knows. Perhaps rather than unraveling that, why don't we get back to discussing MEA, hmmm?

But they did replace whatever button it was to assign a strike team There are several instances where the game interface changes the positions of things. I have no idea why. It seems like something like that should be a set design and not dependent on anything else (like graphics card ability, online connection, etc). Buttons change locations. It's very confusing. I had the same thing happen in DAI, I believe. Yes, I can see where it can be confusing at first when one encounters a button switch. That said though, part of me actually likes that it does occur sometimes since it stops me from playing totally on autopilot... causing me to look and read what is one the screen. It's easy with my eyesight issues to start not reading the messages, but I lose out on a lot when I do that so the little reminders because of an occasional button shift actually works in my favor.
I think consistency is something they do strive for, but when the game is being made by several different individuals and sometimes even compiled by several different company subsidiaries in different cities, some differences are bound to creep in here and there. When support for a game is pulled quickly (as it was for Andromeda) it's less likely that any of those little issues would ever get close enough to the top of the "to fix" list that they'd ever get addressed.

I forget the game, but I remember the dialog option switching from time to time, as if the developer didnt want you to get too complacent and just pick the same option every time. lol. Once I knew they did that, it was easy enough to avoid. I was a bit annoyed that they didnt provide a warning on entering multiplayer that way, yet had two warnings to exit.

I've designed user interfaces for data entry clerks. The initial design was made to look nice and group the fields in an order that made it eas y to read and follow.
We had to scrap it, as data entry clerks don't look at the screen. They look at the document they are entering, so the UI has to be in exactly the order the paper document is. If fields move around for any reason they would get annoyed.
I look at the apex UI as data entry, Quick repetitive selections, so from a UI design, flipping button usage is a no no.

I'm not saying that button flipping is a good thing... I'm saying it happens when multiple teams are contributing to a large game... I really don't think it's intentional trickery to sucker people into playing multiplayer. If it was there plan, then to quote Jaal "It's a very bad plan," since people are more likely to have a poor first experience in the multiplayer game if they find themselves in one by accident. It's not a good way for them to promote their multiplayer.

So don't play it at all, silly. Hey, isn't advocating piracy still a TOS violation here? If I wouldn't buy it anyway, Bioware isn't really losing money. And no, it's not. People have different opinions on piracy and they are allowed to express them. Your desire for censorship and repression of different opinions is touching, but denied. It's only forbidden to give directions or links to piracy, which I didn't. "You may have your own opinion on piracy, but we don’t permit linking to pirated content or game breaking cheats." Don't be silly. I don't make the rules here, and IDGAF if you want to advocate piracy. I don't agree with you, but that's hardly confined to this topic.

Maybe the design was like that because they'd convinced themselves most players would prefer to play MP for an apex mission if available.

The GUI for MEA SP and MP was a step back from ME3MP … and Anthem is a step back from that.
I have no idea who designs the GUI, but they need to find someone new … or send the poor sod to school to learn how to do it better.
Like SC said, I don't think it's intentional, just bloody awful, annoying, irritating, maddening.
The context menus change as you move your mouse cursor … plenty of times in MEAMP, I've clicked the wrong thing, because mouse movement changes button location.
In Anthem, the GUI is pleasant to look at, just a royal pain to use … which is kind of the opposite of what you want from the GUI.

I think... as a UI/UX guy I was once... ; things change, the first graphics put in place was done too early to change drastically the system -> enhancements to what is needed happened too -> can we just slap it on this somehow? -> but the usability suffers -> no time to redo whole thing -> good enough. Uhh these things happen. Not saying its justified, its not. The basic designs of those are great for the eye and even usability is quite okay but then there are the dark rooms where grue will eat you if you step into those..

I'm still not sure what we're actually talking about with the APEX missions. On the Strike Team Missions screen, selecting a mission gives me a popup where I have to either explicitly select MP, explicitly select sending an APEX team, or cancel the mission. If the mission is APEX-only there is no popup; I go straight to selecting an APEX team. I can't find the button that's supposed to change function.
It's not a case where you can just be hitting the space bar without paying attention to the screen. If your intent was to send an APEX team, you'd need to be looking at the screen to select a team.

My memory is a little foggy, but this is how I think it goes. On the Xbox One, if a strike teams mission is not an APEX one, the X button takes you to the screen where you can select your strike team; however, if the mission is an APEX one, you need to use the A button to get to the screen to select a strike team and pressing the X button is for doing the mission and will take you right to the multiplayer lobby.

Strike team missions cannot be played in MP, so there is only one option.
APEX missions have the choice of either sending a strike team or playing it yourself in MP.

Well perhaps back on topic and as a late comer to the thread I absolutely loved MEA even with its flaws, recently completed my 16th Pt and enjoyed the characters, the story (especially the over arching story) even if it wasn't executed perfectly and I loved exploring the planets and the combat was great fun. Will play it again soon and can't wait for MEA2, hopefully its not too long, old age may prevent me playing it otherwise!!!!!

Yeah I'm almost through my 13th working through the Remnant City atm just got that Peebee's loyalty mission and the final mission to go. I do have at least 2 more Ryder's planned atm so it won't be my last run. But then I have 2 or 3 Shep's in mind as well so I will likely be mixing them in with the trilogy.

Hope you didn't forget the hidden room and its Easter egg.!!!!!!!! What hidden room? You are on Khi Tasira yeah? There is a room that you have to jump down to and has a puzzle and in it there is a DAI Easter Egg if you scan the pod thing in the room. Finding the room and solving the puzzle is also the trigger for getting the "Strange Space Anomaly" AKA The Big Cheese that Suvi will detect when you leave Khi Tasira. Heres a video that hopefully shows the location, you need to jump down a few levels off the walkway and the puzzle solution. Haven't watched it all in a rush ATM. Heres an image showing the location its a bit clearer than the video:

Getting back to ME1 now that I have it on PC and modded... this has shot Andromeda even further up in quality than I thought. I love ME1, but I can’t help the continued realistion that Andromeda took its formula and improved on it.
Better combat. Better vehicle. More detailed world environments. About the only equal footing are the characters and story, but then no surprise since both are foundations for what cane or what should come after.
Andromeda is one of the most underrated games I have ever seen. Why it is so hated is beyond me... I guess that fallout from the ME3 endings was far more toxic than anyone could have guessed. Well, that and game tribalism is awful these days. If something competes in a genre, it can get nasty.

Well, that and game tribalism is awful these days. If something competes in a genre, it can get nasty. This has been my opinion all along, the game was so unfairly treated by a very vocal minority focusing mainly on a lot of superficial issues. MEA is not perfect but it is a fun and entertaining game that I have played 16 times and enjoyed every one. I think the people with the biggest axe to grind just could not let go of Shepard and were disappointed and disillusioned when Alec dies early on, well that's my guess and I think some people who hated the ME3 endings were ready to complain about MEA regardless as you stated. The frustrating thing post the Anthem launch is knowing they spent 6 years on Anthem and it in my opinion is an inferior game to MEA, and MEA had resources moved from it to work on Anthem.

Yeah that's how I feel in that MEA is to me an improved ME1 and how if ME1 was done today MEA would have been the result. I still like ME1 but MEA blows it right out of the water. sjsharp2010 did you already know about the hidden room I mentioned earlier or did you find it this PT? no I didn't but only because I'd finished the mission by the time I saw your response I'll just have to look for it next time if I remember besides I may be doing another run of the game soon anyway as I'm planning to install Windows 10 onto my machine in the next few days as I'm upgrading up from Windows 7 seeing as support for it is ending so I'm thinking I may play again to see how it performs on Windows 10 so I may be doing another run of the ME series then as it may be one of the first games I end up reinstalling

It has a "Gaming Mode" function. If you have a keyboard with the "Windows Key" on it. You hit that an "G" at the same time and when you are in a game it identifies it as a game and frees up more resources for the game. It also has record function and screenshot functionality. Let me know if you want spoilers re the hidden room and I'll post some shots.

Let me know if you want spoilers re the hidden room and I'll post some shots. Yeah I had initially tried Windows 10 during it's free trial period so I know a little bit about it. I just abandoned it then mainly because I felt it wasn't ready as I was having trouble initially with some of my games so I thought I'll give it some time and stick with Windows 7 for now. But now that given Windows 7 support is ending I kinda have to upgrade. I do have a workaround now for those games though that it had trouble with before so hopefully that works and in the event it doesn't I do have a plan B in that I'll set my computer up in a dualboot wher I have both Windows 7 and 10 working together. Anything internet related and programs that are compatible I'll do through 10 anything that's old and is having trouble I'll use with 7. I'll just disable my Windows 7's internet capabilities. One of my plans should work. Either way I'm looking forward to trying it's features again and seeing what my system can do with DX12 as my graphics card is DX12 compatible even if Win 7 isn't
