I hate all of the Fabien "Inner" Dialogues. Just terrible i can i play the game and explore the world on my own? No that´s such stupid idea. I dunno. That kind of thing can go both ways to me. The ongoing dialogue with the succubus possessing the main character is my favorite thing about Dark Messiah, and that game has quite a bit else to recommend it. Don't know how interesting this Fabian seems. But having a modern vampire stuck their head would be a very efficient way to get around all the 'what is this thing you call a phone?' that would normally bog an ancient vampire waking up today down without completely shortchanging us on the culture shock. Though I think it was also mentioned that Phyre was sent into torpor a hundred years ago? Quite a bit of modern technology was already around in some form by 1924, so it shouldn't take too much mental adjustment for things like modern guns and phones and cars, or light switches. The last episode of the Dracula show on Netflix has Claes Bang stealing a semiautomatic pistol out of someone's holster almost first thing, and some very amusing scenes reflecting on the shock of waking up in the modern world after already having existed long enough to absorb a lot of changing technology, and mostly being able to take it on the chin. The culture shift would be a much bigger issue. Would absolutely love to have certain conversations about "rights" and "democracy" from Phyre's perspective. Though it doesn't look like we have much say in the banter they have with Fabian, at least in the heat of the moment. ...I'm totally rewatching that show before the game comes out. Side note, does anyone else feel like it'd be awesome to be able to manipulate light switches in these games? With only half of the clans having direct access to out-and-out darkvision and any conceivable chronicle inevitably taking place at night, it always seemed to me that control of the light switch in any given room would be a huge tactical point in combat scenarios. If I'd ever found a group to play the pen and paper game with I'd definitely have made a point of planning my tactics around that, at least.

For me First Person with waving arms doing magic or punching someone is just comical. It totally kills the immersion.
The same with the Voice in the head. I mean that the Nosferatu is hiding something was obvious. No need for a Voice in the head to tell you the obvoius
And i totally missed the dark and creepy feeling of BL1.

I don't know if I read this theory here or on reddit. But the theory goes that the person we see on screen is the thin blood, and Phyre was the elder that the thin-blood diablerized. In the old VTM lore the founder of the Tremere was a human mage who diablerized an antediluvian called Saulot. The result was a battle between Saulot and Tremere over their body. So the same could be happening here Phyre the elder could be the one who is inside the thin blood's head. Fabian is always male, so that doesn't really work. Okay so most likely when Fabien tried to diablerize Phyre his body was taken over by the elder. So now Fabien is just a voice. Just like what happened to Tremere. After thousand's of years fighting each other Tremere lost control of his body to Saulot.

though I'm not likely to play brujah in an action game. Isn't an action game exactly when you are supposed to play a brujah??? I like playing get up and smash then in the face characters in systems that are dice/chance + your characters skill level, but I'm terrible at active dodging, striking, and blocking in action games. So there i prefer stealth, ranged, or both.

I remember Dark Messiah. Great game but oh boy what a financial flop. I don´t think the reason why Dark Messiah works better is because of the different genre or that the voice is from a sexy succubus no its frequency and quality of the dialogues. You don´t have speak everything all out. People already made Forspoken comparions so yeah bad idea with Fabien. Also its pretty cheap writing. Like you said Fabien exists mainly that Phyre doesn´t have ask what is or that because this would mean more and better writing. Therefore i still believe that is a big mistake to play as an elder instead of a powerful elder who still have do stuff like a thinblood.
I am the same way I prefer stealth and persuasion to get through sticky situations. I hope BL2 allows this also. I really don´t why the marketing is so focus on action. Are stealth or dialogue options really that boring for some people. For me its the opposite. And so many people ask the same question as you from the beginning can we see other options? No almost action.
I also would love to hear some minor stuff which made Bloodlines 1 special? Can Phyre even dance in the clubs? Or is this not possible because there isn´t a 3rd person camera? Who knows but the Hardsuit Labs version of BL 2 answer this with this somewhat catchy song.

The gameplay trailer looked better than I expected. Although my expectations for this game are not exactly sky high.
Level design was decently eerie. Graphics looked good enough. At some points it seemed the framerate got wonky, but maybe it was played on a console? Combat looked ok, the enemy indicators were actually helpful. I am probably not going Brujah though. Hand-to-hand combat will get old quick. Unless there are many possible combos. Leaning towards a magic class if there is one.
I am always up for some good Eagle Vampire vision and detective quests. Hopefully there is a lot of different side content.
One thing the trailer didn't really show is how much dialogue we should expect and how much we can influence it - either by abilities or proper dialogue choices. The original game had a lot of charm thanks to the dialogues. Hopefully there is also some "choice-consequence" dynamic too.
I am liking more and more the idea of playing an Elder. They better give me the option for snarky comments.

I rewatched and there is a lots in that video. Looks like Willem Axel was turned in the 1930s based on the worn newspaper. The illusion ghouls have the mark symbol carved on their torso and the dev confirmed Malkavian's influence on Willem's little trick. Phyre becomes (story spoiler) the Sheriff of the Camarilla Court pretty early on.
There is a 4 action abilities on the bottom right (only 2 abilities there in the vid the charge and the multi-hits), but there is another 4 empty slots above the health bar too which aren't explained. The Celerity multi-hit can mark more than one target. You need to combat feed to charge the pips under the abilities to use them (one combat feed recharge one pip for each of your abilities). Each clan have their own feed passives (buff you get after feeding in combat). TK can be used in combat to pull enemies toward you and heavy attack to send them away. The devs calls the "scan" ability Heightened Senses (pretty much low level Aupex). I'm still trying to identify the opera song, it's in French and talks about the Devil, but it's not from any opera I ever listened to.

Phyre becomes the Sheriff of the Camarilla Court pretty early on . That seems like a pretty significant hit to the roleplaying potential right there. One of the major themes of the first game was deciding your own relationship with the different vampire cultures. Camarilla errand boy, Anarch stooge, unaffiliated or playing all sides. If we don't get to decide THAT then this story is basically on rails compared to almost every other piece of VtM media out there, let alone the PnP experience. Not that there aren't awesome stories waiting to be told about Camarilla enforcers. But wow. That's quite a decision they made, if it's true.

The BL1 unoffical patch creator Wesp5 aka the main man why we are still talking about Bloodlines over the years has made this interesting comment. - The menu screen shows "outfits" and not "inventory". - The menu screen shows "ability tree" and not "character sheet". - You can only fill up the blood points for the active discipline. - You get XP for killing enemies, how does that work for stealth? planetvampire.freeforums.net/thread/110/bloodlines-extended-gameplay-video-released?page=1&scrollTo=823I would be super pissed if only can level up our combat abilities similiar to Inquisition. No leveling seduction, intimidation or Scholarship / Research in a Bloodlines game? I hope my fear isn´t justify.

In the first game, the majority of the main quests are given to you by the Prince. You are a "Camarilla errand boy" for most of the game even you get to backstab him in the end. And Phyre does it for self-interest/preservation reasons according to the dev Q&A in the video. They went to sleep in the Middle East and woke up in Seattle. They have zero power base in Seattle and sapped powers. Being the Sheriff means they can go where they want and get information from Kindreds while getting protection/support from the Prince.
Also, going by the demo, Prince Campbell and the Camarilla court are being attacked/undermined by the same kindred(s) who put the mark on Phyre.

I used the quick quote function, didn't realize it'd messed with the spoiler code. And I don't know, you spend the majority of the first game as the Camarilla's indentured slave, with the Prince's gun to your head every step of the way and everyone distrusting you because they know you don't really have a choice. That's not quite the same.

Some side news from Dan Pinchbeck who was co-owner (pre-Sumo acquisition) and lead writer/game director at The Chinese Room until he left last year. He wrote a post on his website about his involvement in Bloodlines 2. The short version: he's the one who made the pitch to Paradox and he wrote the new version of the game (from vision to characters). You can read the whole thing - as it goes into more detail what his vision is - at: www.danpinchbeck.co.uk/vampire

That was brief. I read the entire thing and it does sound good on paper. The problem I have and many others in the fandom is the game does not feel like a successor to the original game. I bought and enjoyed VTM: Swansong it's still installed on my computer so I am not close minded and alien to change. This game would be better if it had used another name besides Bloodlines. If it was called VTM: The Calling or something it would have fit the game better. The Hardsuit Labs version did feel like a successor. From the little we saw of it and had the same campiness as the original, it had the twisted humor Brian Mitsoda and the other writers were known for, and we knew at least one character was returning (Damsal). Even with just those little breadcrumbs there was a connection between those two games. As far as we know there is no one from the original Bloodlines team working on this version of BL2. I am not being toxic nor hateful and I am not nostalgic I played the game for the first time during the pandemic and like I said I enjoyed Swansong. I won't judge the game until it is fully released meaning with all dlc/expansions as a whole. I can't speak for everyone but I liked the latest game trailer. It just does not give me the same feel as the original game. It's like with the Man of Steel many fans thought it was a good movie about an alien living on earth, but that it was not a good Superman movie. So if Man of Steel was about another character that was not Superman it would had fared well than it did it would had been accepted by the fanbase.

This blog reminded me to brush up on how the sunlight is affecting vampires in WoD.
Apparently it's very bad. Even for the strongest Elders. I was curious if Phyre would be able to do some day stuff, but probably won't happen. Even Third Generation demigods don't dare wander freely under the sun.

Not too impressed with the "relearning old powers" idea, that kind of thing always makes the character development feel a bit less satisfying and interesting to me. On the plus side, other than opening up cross-Clan ones it opens the door for Phyre to have learned some really outside-the-box Disciplines back in the day without requiring a teacher or source for them in the actual game. Protean, Obtenebration/Oblivion, even Viscissitude... though if they were really going to make a big enough deal out of extra Disciplines to significantly change gameplay then there'd be no real reason to go with just four Clans...
Also just realized that the dumbing-down of the dialogue system means that playing a "social" clan seems a lot less attractive, and the blood magic shown so far seems very unimaginative and inconsistent with lore. So my enthusiasm has apparently shifted from Ventrue and Tremere to Banu Haquim and - God forgive me - Brujah. Especially Brujah if Presence is implemented. Playing a warrior-philosopher from the 1600s to contrast modern anarchist sentiment and idealism and laying down the law with both thought and force seems like an alright time. Even if it's maybe a little close to the story of VtM: Redemption.
Also, with so much focus on gameplay and combat, at least it seems unlikely that the endgame turns into a complete snore if they leave dialogue and stealth solutions by the wayside again. Just came up against Min Xiang with a guns-focused Ventrue in Bloodlines a few days ago, and don't know if I can even be assed to start the game back up.

I actually think that's a good thing. Given how powerful Elders can be, you'd basically be playing an actual god if you were able to walk in the sunlight. It would be fun for a bit, but get old pretty quickly, I think. I can settle for owning the night.

Talking about sunlight is there going to be a day/night cycle? What I liked and disliked in the first game was that there was no day/night cycle. I liked it because I did not have to worry about the sun. I disliked it because I could not tell the passage of time so to me it felt like one long night.

I had a similar feeling with Batman: Arkham Knight. Commissioner Gordon warned me in the open moments of the game, but that was a hell of a long night.

I just got used to Bethesda's games where I can sleep/wait through the day or night.

Phyre have the equivalent of 1 dot in Aupex for heightened senses (the scan ability shown in the gameplay demo) regardless of clan, people on Reddit were wondering what that meant for Tremere since Aupex is one of their disciplines. I think they will stick close to VTM5 clan/disciplines thought, and outside a few gameplay helpers everyone will have. I doubt Phyre has many outside of the the clan abilities, but we know of 3: the previously mentioned heightened senses, along with telekinesis and gliding.
