On Insanity, as Adept. I've only recruited Mordin and went to her mission for the Locust. I've died now too many times. I'm on the last part right before you go up top, with an Eclipse Vanguard and a crap ton of enemies. I've got Heavy Singularity, and got Kasumi's Overload to rank 3 but I'm getting overwhelmed. Arc Projector is helpful, I'm worried to think how the roof is going to go. Any tips? P.S. The game has crashed twice now in this same area, after I died trying to reload. P.S.S. Made it to the roof. P.S.S.S. I did it How about any other tips for Insanity Adepts? I assume we start off crappy and get better? I'm worried about collector missions. Armor is a pain - could bring Mordin?

Surround yourself with shield stripping squadmates, is about the only tip I have for Adept Shepards.
So that will be:
Kasumi (Overload) Zaeed (Disruptor Ammo. Actively give him targets to shoot! Though you should be giving orders on insanity regardless) Miranda (Overload) Tali (Energy Drain, needs to be loyal) Garrus (Overload)
I'd probably go for Kasumi and Zaeed, as this gives you both the ability to strip shields as well as near unparalleled single target damage from your squad. Special mention for Miranda though, as she also gives you the option to detonate.

I am resisting downgradingto Hardcore. I dont remember Insanity/Adept so difficult!

P.S.S.S. I did it How about any other tips for Insanity Adepts? I assume we start off crappy and get better? I'm worried about collector missions. Armor is a pain - could bring Mordin? Glad you beat it. The Adept has a lot of tools, but is also the class that is most reliant on squadmates to operate the most effectively. Kasumi does not mesh all that well with the Adept. The Adept works best with other biotic squadmates, notably Thane and Miranda for warp bombing. How were you building your Adept? If you have a level 50+ import, you can get this basic Adept build at rank 4 (for level 50-59, that means after talking to the Illusive Man after Lazarus Station): 2 - Warp 1 - Throw 2 - Singularity 1 - Pull 0 - Shockwave 0 - Biotic Mastery 1 - Bonus power That build starts you with all of the tools you need. From there, you need to start putting points into Biotic Mastery to get better cooldowns (Bastion evolution for increased duration). Kasumi's mission is hard because you only have one squadmate. And like I said, Kasumi does not compliment the Adept well. Overload is nice for stripping shields, but unless you started with a level 60 import, you are unlikely to evolve it into Area Overload this early into the game. Early Adept can be difficult at times because you lack some of the cooldowns and duration bonuses you really need to make it shine. Adept is at its best when it uses all of its tools and squadmates at its disposal.

I don't like playing as an adept that much except in ME3. However the adept will actually be good against the collectors since you have warp which is good against armor and barriers. I recommend having a bonus power be warp ammo. I would strongly recommend garrus since he has strong combat abilities as well as overload which is good against shields and adepts have nothing against shields.

I am resisting downgradingto Hardcore. I dont remember Insanity/Adept so difficult! Since you haven't been through ME2 completely yet on the PC, you're probably limited on what bonus power you can select. For example, I don't expect you have Reave or Stasis yet... and that may be what is making it seem more difficult than you remember. It is a tough mission on Insanity and even Hardcore since more of the enemies are armored (e.g. the varren).
Miranda is probably your best choice for squad mate for closing the shutters since you can get some detonations going for added crowd control.

When getting to the part fighting Hock at the end, stay behind the barrier. It's the best spot. When you run low on ammo, there's respawning ammo that appears a few steps in front. When things have calmed down for a moment, that would be the best time to run forward to get that ammo, then get back behind the barrier.

Yeah she is usually my choice for coming down there no matter what class I am.
To answer nightlife you should beat the game with a soldier, vanguard,or infiltrator before you play with an adept, engineer,or sentinel. That way you can have an ammo power to make your weapons stronger. If you already did that then use warp ammo with your pistol and sub machine gun. However down there I would recommend using warp on the blood pack mercs since they all have armor on that difficulty. Besides that all I can say is good luck because that part is hard on insanity no matter what class

Thanks guys I will keep trying. I had been drinking a bit last night, I'm sure that impacted things . Any tips for mission order? So I've done: Firewalker, Normandy Crash site, a medium amount of scanning, Mordin's Recruitment, Kasumi and I'm in the middle of Arcangel. Wasn't sure if I should focus on biotic upgrades or what. Also, in general, running with Miranda and Garrus is the best right? Miranda a no-brainer for Overload and Warp combos and her lead, and Garrus for a second Overload and his sniping? For some reason I was thinking Mordin might be good with his incinerate but I guess if Miranda and I both have Warp, it's not as useful. I think I'm level 7 now, maxxed Singularity to heavy and was going to focus on passive next, unless beefing up Warp is a good idea? I gave Miranda Area Overload (seemed better than heavy) - not sure where to invest in her next. P.S. Why is Adept on Insanity in ME3 a lot easier than in ME2?

I don't like singularity that much since it only effects non armored or shielded units. Yeah garrus and miranda are your best bet for adept. Since they both have overload to deal with shields and garrus has the combat strength. If you aren't a soldier then kasumi's loayalty mission is a must since the locust is the best sub machine gun in ME2. And you should go for warp since it is good against barriers and armor. Also DO NOT do Tali's recruit mission until you get an assaut rifle or at least the M920 CAIN heavy weapon. Otherwise the end of that mission is impossible.
Adept in ME3 doesn't limit you to a pistol and sub machine gun for half the game and the class's are better. Also they have detonations in ME3 where as in ME2 you just have certain powers hit harder when you mix things like lift then throw.

Note: I tweaked your quoted post so I could number your questions. It should make it easier to follow your questions and my attempted answers. 1. Any tips for mission order? So I've done: Firewalker, Normandy Crash site, a medium amount of scanning, Mordin's Recruitment, Kasumi and I'm in the middle of Arcangel. Wasn't sure if I should focus on biotic upgrades or what. 2. 3. I think I'm level 7 now, maxxed Singularity to heavy and was going to focus on passive next, unless beefing up Warp is a good idea? I gave Miranda Area Overload (seemed better than heavy) - not sure where to invest in her next. 4. Why is Adept on Insanity in ME3 a lot easier than in ME2? 1. As an Adept, I prefer to do this recruitment mission order pre-Horizon Mission 1: Mordin, to unlock the research station. Mission 2. Archangel, to get the SMG Damage upgrade. With the SMG Damage upgrade from a Citadel shop, I can the unlock the SMG Shield Piercing upgrade (+50% damage versus shields.) Mission 3. Jack, to get the damage protection upgrade. Mission 4. Warlord, because it is the only mission left. With regards to upgrades, there is Biotic Damage upgrade on Firewalker, however, you cannot get any more Biotic Damage upgrades until Horizon. That means you cannot research the Biotic Duration upgrade (for getting two Biotic Damage upgrade) until after Horizon. A third Biotic Damage upgrade is in an Illium shop, which will unlock the Biotic Cooldown upgrade. After Horizon, I like to do these missions: Mission 1: The three main Firewalker missions to get the Biotic Damage upgrade, if I have not done these missions yet. Mission 2: N7:Anomalous Weather (requires Star Charts from Illium), for the damage protection upgrade. This would be Damage Protection #3, which unlocks the Hard Shields upgrade. I cannot remember where this mission is offhand. I think it is in the Pylos Nebula. Mission 3: N7:Blood Pack Base (requires Star Charts from Illium) in the Shrike Abyssal. It is on Zada Ben. Mission 4: (If I still need missions to unlock the Disabled Collector Ship) There are a few non-combat N7 missions I can do, or try to save all 20 crates. After that, the Disabled Collector Ship unlocks and I can go get my bonus weapon. Then I go help Liara with Lair of the Shadow Broker to get the squadmate power-reset terminal. 2. (Squadmates). Adept works best with Warp-bombers. Miranda and Thane are awesome with the Adept. Since you cannot get Thane until after Horizon, you will probably make better use with a defense-stripper as your second squadmate. Garrus for shields (Overload) and Mordin for armor (Incinerate) are your best defense strippers. Miranda and Thane are pretty interchangeable, so you can go with either one for loyalty missions. Remember: Mordin's Incinerate starts with a small radius, but can be evolved to have a 3m radius with Area Incinerate. This means his Incinerate can hit multiple enemies. Warp is always a single-target power. Squadmates with Warp are great so they can detonate warp bombs that you prime with Pull and Singularity. For squadmates, evolve their Warp to Unstable Warp since its base cooldown drops from 12s to 9s with that evolution. 3. For a basic Adept that is imported at level 50-59, you start at level 3. After completing Lazarus Station and talking with the Illusive Man, you reach level 4. At level 4, the basic Adept will look like this: 2 - Warp 1 - Throw 2 - Singularity 1 - Pull 0 - Biotic Mastery 1 - Bonus power From there, I would level it like this: A. Max Biotic Mastery to Bastion (for cooldown and duration bonuses) B. Max Singularity to Heavy Singularity. C and D. Max Warp to Heavy Warp and Pull to Pull Field. Either max Warp first then Pull, or Pull first then Warp. Up to you. E. Max Throw to Heavy throw. Best bonus power for the Adept is 1-point Stasis. You can also make some use of Warp Ammo. If you want to max Warp Ammo, then max it Heavy Warp Ammo. Warp Ammo is best used for its extra damage to lifted enemies, so then I would recommend maxing Pull before Warp. Warp Ammo deals 2x its listed health/armor/barrier damage to lifted targets; that means Heavy Warp deals +50% base weapon damage to health/armor/barrier, but +100% health damage to lifted targets. 4. Adept is easier on ME3 Insanity than ME2 Insanity, because ME3 Insanity is much easier than ME2 Insanity. In ME3, few enemies have a defense layer, and you can both prime and detonate power combos on enemy defenses. Plus a whole host of other reasons why ME3 Insanity is easier.

Once again I will link to Mass Effect trilogy: Game mechanics and character build compilation thread. This thread has a few ME2 Adept guides for insanity. I copied some of these guides from the old BSN forums before they shut down. I also have my own video guide for an ME2 Basic Adept on Insanity here. (Warning: I do not have the greatest voice. You will never see me get narrator work ever.) The guide is probably a lot longer than it needs to be.

1. While Singularity could be better, you are selling Singularity too short. Singularity can hold most protected enemies in place, while draining their protections. This gives you time to take out some other goons. I cast out Singularity, then focus on defense-stripping another guy, Pull the other enemy and have Miranda/Thane warp-bomb him. Then I can go back to the guy still caught in Singularity, or continue to focus on other enemies. (Enemies caught in the warp-bomb blast are staggered and have some of their defenses shot off. While they are staggered and not shooting me, I can shoot the rest of their defenses off and Warp-bomb them; or shoot the defenses off the guy caught in Singularity and then Warp-bomb him. 2. I would not say Kasumi's loyalty mission is a must. The Locust is good since it more accurate at longer ranges, but I do not think it is flat-out the best SMG. Most players use it because they like its accuracy. I can use all SMGs. I actually have not used the Locust all that much in a long time, meaning I actually find it hard to use now since I am so used to the Shuriken and Tempest. 3. Not sure why you think assault rifles are so important for Tali's recruit mission. Pistol + SMG is just fine. I agree that the CAIN is good for knocking down the Colossus armor. 4. Pistols = +50% to +100% damage versus armor. SMGs = +50% to +100% damage versus shields (Locust deals less shield damage than the Shuriken and Tempest but has a small damage bonus to armor) Between Pistol and SMG, my Adept rarely uses the bonus weapon. If I take an assault rifle on my Adept, I end up using it as backup to the SMG and Pistol. ME2 has detonations, but only if you use Warp on a lifted enemy (Enemy lifted by Singularity, Pull, or Slam). ME3's power combo system is much broader, which makes the game much easier.

Doing tali's mission on insanity with no assault rifle and as an adept would be really hard. You definetly would need the extra sub machine gun upgrade at least. In ME2 I don't play as an adept that much.. the only thing I play as less is soldier since I feel it is kinda a waste to play a game like Mass effect 2 or 3 without using the powers and for some reason it doesn't feel right to use most special bonus powers with the soldier class

Hey Red, Garrus, Up and Mike thank you for the extra info. I've beaten ME2 on console with Adept - not sure why this feels a lot harder than last time on PC. I guess I had more xp due to playing the game multiple times. I think I may have done Engineer on my last ME2 Insanity playthrough. I'm going to try to stick with Insanity and not chicken out and go down to Hardcore. I kind of feel like a wimp so far and not powerful.
Question: which classes would you say are easiest on Insanity in ME2, verses hardest?

Thanks guys I will keep trying. I had been drinking a bit last night, I'm sure that impacted things . Any tips for mission order? So I've done: Firewalker, Normandy Crash site, a medium amount of scanning, Mordin's Recruitment, Kasumi and I'm in the middle of Arcangel. Wasn't sure if I should focus on biotic upgrades or what. Also, in general, running with Miranda and Garrus is the best right? Miranda a no-brainer for Overload and Warp combos and her lead, and Garrus for a second Overload and his sniping? I gave Miranda Area Overload (seemed better than heavy) - not sure where to invest in her next. P.S. Why is Adept on Insanity in ME3 a lot easier than in ME2? For Mission Order, other than the difference mentioned on your other thread (doing Firewalker at the outset and focusing on getting 6 missions between Horizon and the Collector Ship, the recruitmient mission order Red has recommended is fine. If you don't want to try for 6 missions between Horizon and the Collector Ship, you can always use the N7 Hahne-Kadar set of missions to fill in for the Firewalker Missions you've done already. I just don't see any reason to not do all of Firewalker right away since there is no combat involved and that one biotic upgrade you get than you won't be able to really use until later won't go bad in your pocket.
As Red mentioned, ME3 is a lot easier because of the wider variety of combos you can use throughout the game. It does a much better job of balancing the classes.
As for the easiest class on Insanity in ME2, without considering bonus powers... probably soldier because of weapon strength and variety combined with all the ammo powers... with the proviso that the player knows how to manipulate their squad's powers and how to choose squads that compliment each mission.
Generally, ME2 insanity is a lot about not getting so frustrated by dying that you quit. Just keep repeating the missions until to get them... and you will eventually get them because, at the very least, you'll start memorizing where and when the various enemies spawn and how they behave. Overall, ME2 can get rather predictable and you can use that to your advantage.

I find soldier to be the best class on insanity. I'm able to bulldoze my way through the trilogy at a very quick pace without too much problem. Adept would be a good class if the player doesn't want to use weapons. I know, I've done it.
If someone were to playthrough ME2 as quickly as possible, I would suggest completing firewalker dlc after completing Horizon. It's quick and has enough missions to activated the collector ship mission. Then go get the IFF. Once done, you will have to complete 2 missions to activate the collectors taking the crew. I would suggest those two missions be loyalty missions. One can be Jack's since it only takes a few minutes to complete and the other can be whoever you want. If you plan on using this Shepard in ME3, I suggest having the two characters that are loyal with Shepard when fighting 3-eyes.

Question: which classes would you say are easiest on Insanity in ME2, verses hardest? The two easiest are Soldier and Infiltrator. They are shooting-focused classes with class-unique powers that buff their combat prowess in obvious ways: - Adrenaline Rush slows down time around Shepard, while providing a weapon damage boost (to compensate for the time dilation). And it can have a short cooldown, and an evolution adds damage protection. - Tactical Cloak causes enemies to ignore Shepard, so you can move around to a new location, or shoot with increased damage. Soldier and Infiltrator are good starting classes. Hardest? That depends. I feel like that is between Adept and Vanguard: - Vanguard can be difficult since Biotic Charge puts you directly into the action. This means putting you the closest to the enemy. Enemies in ME2 will focus-fire on whoever is closest to them. So on Insanity, charging in means putting yourself close to enemies who can deal a lot of hard damage really quickly. If you are not prepared, you will get stomped quickly and often. - Adept because it is easy to think that you have nothing against enemy protections. Adept has a lot of tools, but you need to use all of those tools on Insanity. This can leave a lot of players believing the Adept/biotics are weak on Insanity. Sentinel and Engineer are somewhere in the middle: - Sentinel has a lot of tools, but you end up mostly spamming Tech Armor. This makes it easy to survive, but it starts on a long cooldown. And since you only start with Pistol and SMG, it may feel like you lack the firepower to go with Tech Armor. - Engineer is like the Adept, except it seems more built for Insanity with Overload and Incinerate. (And Combat Drone is awesome.) Engineer and Adept lack the "I win" button/power that the other classes seem to have. This can make them a little tougher to play at first. Adept is just harder because of various other factors. Those are my thoughts.

The other thing depends on when doing her loyalty mission. I usually complete it between Horizon and collector ship missions. I put most points in overload and whatever is left in one of her other powers. When facing the biotic foes, stay behind cover. If hit with warp it will stagger Shepard for a moment leaving him/her to additional damage from the other enemies. When facing Ymir's, just stay behind cover. They will only get so close to Shepard before backing off.
If you like to be courageous, just run past everyone. The part where you have to use the cannon to blow a hole in the wall, just run to it as quickly as possible to avoid the enemies.

I think when you upgrade the charge so you get full shields back afterwards it makes vanguard one of the best for insanity if you use it well. infiltrator is the best for it I agree.

I think infiltrator and sentinel are the easiest. I prefer vanguard but you have to do it just right.

Heavy Charge will replenish 100% of your base shields. Your other comment about Vanguard being one of the best for Insanity makes me wish the old BSN forums were still around. I remember someone posted a thread asking if Vanguard was overpowered. Some replied with a link to a post in the early days of Mass Effect 2 where people were arguing that Vanguard was not viable on Insanity because you 'were always in the red', and that Infiltrator was clearly the best because you could cloak out of trouble. Sadly, the 'biotics/Adept are bad' arguments never really went away.

I like it in ME2 as well but not as much as the other class's..except soldier I don't like that class

What's funny is, I kind of miss my Vanguard lol. It's super action-oriented, and going back to Adept is like whiplash. Seems more boring than usual. Yeah, adept is more fun in ME3 verses ME2 but I'll stick with it I think. But, theres no way I could handle Vanguard on Insanity first time. I'm half-way through Grunt's mission, then it's off to Horizon. Haven't faced the Collectors yet.
I'm pondering if theres a way I can my Adept in ME2 a bit more exciting.
