Morrigan wasn't evil either. Just callous and selfish. I will never understand why people insist on trying to shoehorn characters from completely different franchises into traditional DnD alignments. In fact, I don't understand why DnD even has alignments to begin with. I can't imagine how it remotely aids roleplaying or character development. If anything, it only seems like it would stifle those things. But I only ever played it once, so what do I know. Probably because the alignments are supposed to cover everything. The real problem is that people don't understand them. There is no "evil" D&D alignment. There is chaotic evil, neutral evil and lawful evil. When people talk about "evil action", they are usually talking about something that falls into the chaotic evil spectrum. Just like people seems to think that "neurtal" means doing things for money when the alignment has nothing to do with personal gain. And it had alignments because most people can't role-play for shit. 5e changed that for a personality made of a background, traits, bonds, flaws and ideals...which is even more restrictive technically.

Morrigan got annoyed when the Warden went out of their way to help people, but as far as I recall she never called for them to harm anyone nor did she ever do so herself. By my metric, Zevran, Oghren, or Leliana before she found Andraste are eviler than her, despite being more personable. As for alignments in D&D, my guess is that they come from the time when D&D was more wargame than anything else and they were more or less the extent of characterization. Either that or they served certain niche gameplay purposes, like the Paladin class or the Detect Evil spell. Either way, from what I know of 5E they're mostly vestigial now.

We were contrasting with baldur's gate, so I thought we were talking "evil" in an alignment sense. But I never thought you categorised characters that way, at least not outside a DnD context.

How does someone roleplay "wrong"? By being incapable of design a fictive personality and character in-setting. They just play as themselves regardless if it fit the setting/class. The alignment was a way of saying ok you're this and this is your place in this world. That caused the birth of chaotic stupid and lawful stupid...

Rogue might indeed be interesting, might try that out. You can never have too many rogues.
Has anyone tried out the enhanced character creator mod? I really want to try it, but am a bit afraid, it could break the game. In the Larian forum people are really happy with that mod, so it is probably OK to use? I would like to have mor variety for Tiefling and half-elves.

Larian Studios hasn't left character creation yet @larianstudiosHotfix #6 is now live for Baldur's Gate 3! We heard you didn't enjoy the camera's newfound obsession with the ceilings during combat, so we've addressed that, plus pathfinding issues and problems with the Larian Launcher. Details here: store.steampowered.com/news/app/1086940/view/2916608090295730839Changelist:Fixed several issues related to ceilings and walls being visible incorrectly Fixed pathfinding issues that were introduced recently Fixed the launcher not starting up correctly anymore on specific hardware configurations

Latest patch added some stuff for the unavailable companions that can only be seen via datamining. There was also polish done on the post boat-cutscene section we can't access yet. Helia has a few more refences from party members and goblins. She's 100% replacing Haslin in the goblin prison. Which means that plot thread is going to change so much when she's added.
Karlach has new interactions with Raphael and his servant. They both know she's Zariel's (runaway) favorite. She has a nickname too: the Demonsbane.

I wonder what will happen with Halsin in that case? Spoiled speculative guesses There is a few options: - have a bear and a wolf in the same cell, the post fight interaction would require new dialogues. - he could be kept elsewhere in the Temple/Goblins camp, that one wouldn't require much changes to the plot I think. - he could have escaped capture all together and hangs out near the Temple trying to find a way in.
He's involved in a side quest and in the main quest at the Moonlight Towers (if you didn't kill him) in Act 1 B. They also changed his appearance right before the EA started, he used to look very old. So he's not going away.

Karlach has new interactions with Raphael and his servant. They both know she's Zariel's (runaway) favorite. She has a nickname too: the Demonsbane. Datamining is 100% accurate in term of information found. The speculation made out of that info is another story.
For example, I thought that Halsin was replacing Helia before this update, as he had her jailcell door and cutscene trigger and she wasn't in the game. But this latest update, adds to Helia jailcell scene so it seems it is the opposite.
I haven't looked myself, but it's possible there was stuff updated about Halsin too.

Yet to play the patch, but I'm hoping for performance improvement and patching out the memory leak. They mentioned Vulcan stability but I found DX11 to somewhat run better on my system, maybe I'll give it a run. I'm happy to report that the game works well now for me on Vulkan, and also looks hell of a lot better than before the patch. I think my previous performance problems were somewhat related to the autosave function, probably it was put on an infinite loop every time it was called, maybe because of my anti-virus. To play I needed yesterday to make an exception for the BG3 folder as my anti-virus identified the launcher as a virus for some reason. I've started a Half Elf Warlock, don't know if it's because I know the game better, but the start went smoother than with my wizard pre-patch. I'm worried about possible camera issues that players reported, especially in indoor areas, but so far so good. Hopefully I will be able to finish act 1 before the next savegame reset, I got as far as the Githyanki patrol in my pre-patch playthrough. After playing the game for a long while I can say that the issue is not completely solved, after 10-15 minutes of play or so, I get FPS drops every 20-30 seconds for 3-5 seconds time. Not to make this unplayable, but it's really annoying. After playing with the settings and such I didn't manage to resolve this

I just finished the goblin camp, freed Halsin and got a party thrown by the Tiefling. The fights in the goblin camp are really hard and I'm afraid, the Underdark will be even harder. I'm pretty sure, I can still improve my tactics a lot. And I buy a lot of resurrection spells and healing potions. Still, a nice game so far.

Hmm... part of me is very tempted to try this game out (I've seen a few parts on youtube), I mean...I love rpg's in this genre and enjoyed playing NWN2 in the past (which is in the same setting, just whole other neighborhood) but another part of me is afraid I'll get nightmares, I didn't even dare to finish the teaser/reveal trailer after that dude started coughing blood and doing the heebie jeebies ended up asking a friend to watch the trailer for me to ask how it ended . ...what can I say, I like shape-shifting as a power...but not if it includes coughing up blood and other nastiness. regardless...how creepy would you all say is this game, and would it be suitable for someone who easily has nightmares?

The opening scene might creep you out a bit, but otherwise it is more fantasy than horror so far. I don't think it is any creepier than Dragon Age, so if you are okay with Dragon Age, I think you should be fine with BG3.

Hm, well I don't get nightmares from Dragon Age...at least not yet, Mass Effect has been a problem for me in the past (clammy hand husk dreams )
but I'll jot it down on my wishlist, I still need to figure out my canon world state for Dragon Age. Once I have that finished...we'll see which world we plunge into next
I wonder if they'll put in the Aasimar as a playable race at some point...I always liked those though chances are I'll go with an elf...or tiefling

You got nightmare from ME, but not the Broodmothers in DA?????

Hm, well I don't get nightmares from Dragon Age...at least not yet, Mass Effect has been a problem for me in the past (clammy hand husk dreams )
but I'll jot it down on my wishlist, I still need to figure out my canon world state for Dragon Age. Once I have that finished...we'll see which world we plunge into next
I wonder if they'll put in the Aasimar as a playable race at some point...I always liked those though chances are I'll go with an elf...or tiefling Wishlist is probably a good idea, the game is still only in early access and content-wise, not even all of Act 1 is in (it still has on average 30-40 hours of stuff to do). You got nightmare from ME, but not the Broodmothers in DA????? surprisingly not though chances are DA4 might change that...depending on the monsters we'll get. And if what I've heard about Tevinter Nights is any indication...I'd say our dear Ghilan'nain has plenty of nightmare fuel in her package
