I don't know why this was moved here. This isn't a Bioware Legacy game, and it isn't another Bioware game than the main forum categories (Anthem, Dragon Age, Mass Effect).
They have little to nothing to do with this - especially the current employees and owners.
Though I guess KOTOR2 and NWN2 are included. This just seems wrong is all.
As compromise I suggest re-titling this category if this is going to really include so many games not developed by Bioware, classic or otherwise.

At this point, I expect Half-Life 3 to be announced in a year or two. Too early for this year, we are still in the late 90s nostalgia revivals.

Illithids are the creepiest creepazoids to ever creep. Hate them and their sick mind games. I wonder if PC can be a githyanki or githzerai? They are immune to that shit aren't they, after breaking free from the creeps in ages past?

The other concern is how stringent they are going to be to the D20 ruleset, if they are going to try to be as close as the original Baldur's Gate games I am not sure again if the game will be for me. The game will be D&D 5e. Sven said that Larian started by implementing a straight port of the 5e rules set and then they adapted the parts they didn't think worked well (no surprise there, happens with all D&D based video games). I'm personally wondering if they are going to add the core 12 classes and 9 races as core is Forgotten Realms...which means playable Dragonborn Barbadin*, yes please! *Barbadin: Bard/Paladin. That makes my interest wane. I will follow it and maybe try it under Steam's refund policy to see if I will enjoy it or not sometime after launch and there are a few patches released.

I'm super excited about it!! Not because it's Baldur's Gate (never played either of them *shameful face*) but because it's Larian. DOS2 was one of the best RPGs I've ever played and I don't even like isometric. Amazing hilarious ride in co-op too. So I'm very happy about co-op again here.
If they can keep up their impressive production value with stellar voice acting, charming humor and beautiful environments, this game will be great too.
CDPR and Larian are the names to get excited over these days as an RPG fan.

That is why I said I thought it was just me looking for it. Larian Studios has only made the Divinity Sins games and that video only made me think they are just a kept studio by Google for its exclusivity. As far as the other things that is just more marketing, having Google money pay for a Blur video and 300 people working on the game doesn't mean they won't fumble areas of the game like other studios with the games they have released.

My problem is Tides pretended to be thought provoking and deep like Planescape, and taking that on as a sort of mantle of the quality of that writing it really missed the mark. There was a ton of stories in Tides, but there was no pathos to it. I didn't really like Original Sin (played like an updated version of Beyond Divinity) I did like Original Sin 2 though. I am sure Larian will make a good game out of this. My problem is the same issue as Tides and Torment connection; your basically going to create a sequel, even if it is set 100 years later, to a story that's already finished, and attempt to emulate that legacy. Honestly, I kind of would respect the idea of Baldur's Gate 3 more if they called it Baldur's Gate: Title X or something like that to set it on it's own timeline (a-la Andromeda for lack of a better comparison.) Even with the promise of a connection to Bhaal, who hasn't been relevant in Forgotten Realms lore until recently apparently, it seems a bit...odd to me that they would go for it like this. Instead, it's going to be judged by the standards of the original narrative and mechanics completely.

If it's going to be a "sequel" to anything, it's going to follow the upcoming PNP adventure "Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus" Something interesting to think about: BG1 and BG2 have hints toward an Illithid conspiracy that was never explored or ended unlike the Bhaalspawns story. Some examples: - doppelgangers are commons Illithids servants and the Iron Throne has many of them around (they also show up in BG2 here and there) - Tazok, the Iron Throne leader managing the bandits in BG1, is alive in BG2 in Firkraag's lair. If you kill him again, he has a key that give access to a Mind Flayer's hideout in the sewer under Athkatla Temple district - There are quite a few side quests in BG2 that have people act strangely for someone else but we never find who is responsible (ex: the circus) and one ends with you meeting an Illithid (Jan Jansen's personal quest). I've seen some people speculate that the "shadows" in "Shadows of Amn" was a reference to Illithids, but most of the stuff related to it was cut early on to focus on Irenicus and Bhaalspawn stuff. Saying that, I have no idea what Descent Into Avernus might have to do with Illithids...

If they are basing it as a second part to Descent Into Avernus, why not just make it based off of Avernus and name it Baldur's Gate: Avernus or something? The 3 throws it off for me I guess, and I know I shouldn't be thrown off by that because i'm perfectly fine with anthology-style games. SSI Goldbox titles did that with the old RPGS...but few of them were actually numbered back to back so... I don't know, maybe i'm just being an old grognard.

Avernus, if I remember correctly, is one of the layers of Hell in Faerun. Illithids are aberrations who can cross dimensions and usually live in the underdark, perhaps the connection is them trying to open a portal to hell? Maybe revive a dead god like Bhaal? Thats the best I can come up with right now. I mean, this is a setting that has resurrected Minsc in the tabletop game, so I am sure the writers have an explanation that will be seen as plausible.

Gamespot video interview:
Going by that video, BGI3 is going to be more nerdy than BG1/BG2 were.
That video also confirms they are doing something similar to Original Sin 2 origins but Sven call them "heroic roles" for BG3 which sound more generic to me.

Thing is, I didn't get the impression it's going to be a direct sequel. Just that it's going to be the same setting with the possibility of old characters making an appearance.. If it's going to be a "sequel" to anything, it's going to follow the upcoming PNP adventure "Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus" I don't know, this is the problem I kind of have. Well, Baldur's Gate 2 took place in Athkatla, not Baldur's Gate, so it's not like the number ever really meant anything in the series.

You are right that Avernus is the first of the Nine Hells Bhaal has been resurrected already, though (in the module "Murder in Baldur's Gate") From what I've heard, Descent into Avernus has something to do with the Blood War. I have no idea what the illithids would have to do with that though.

Funny thing is that I was on another BGT playthrough and I was searching online for some info. I kept noticing autocomplete kept suggesting Baldur's Gate 3. Eventually I clicked and here I am.
However this thread should go to the other games section as it's not a Bioware game. Larian should get full credit for the future RPG of the century!

I didn't know a topic on this is opened so I popped another one in General Games. As it is, I'll ask the same thing as I did in the other thread I opened.
Why is this here? Bioware is not making this game. Larian Studios own the licence to BG III.
