Since if the trailer is any indication we’ll have some major antagonists from the underdark, I hope other races there are playable. Namely drow, duergar, and svirfneblin (my personal top choice).

New interview with Sven and WotC dude (Mike Mearls). Linking the reddit thread as it's contain a bullet points of what was said for people who don't want to spend 20 minutes listening to Sven...and beware of the rest of the comment in there. The most interesting things coming from that interview: the game art style is what was shown in the trailer.

Here's an interview with Larian studios Swen Vincke who gives answers to quite many good questions.

They had me at Mind Flayer. Oops, I mean illithid. But Mind Flayer sounds so much cooler! "Illithid" sounds like someone with a lisp saying "illicit" which pretty much describes the way they go about everything they do.
It's always a dilemma for me going to the illithid city in HoTU, deciding whether or not to make the deal with them or instead incite a rebellion. On the one hand, you really have no way of knowing if they will keep their word and stay out of the fight; on the other, do you really want to face them in battle if you don't have to?

I hate Illithids.
Anyhow, die BG player and modder here. Very skeptical on a non-Bioware company taking the reigns of a BG game. We'll see as more info is released.

I'd be skeptical if Bioware was making the game.
1. Live Service 2. Frostbite Engine 3. Rushed 4. Pulling people off of Dragon Age 4 to work on it
Larian is the only company I trust to make a BG game right now.

What makes me a bit sad is that you wont be able to import choices from previous games and canon bhaalspawn will be Abdel Adrian instead of your own bhaalspawn. Of course it makes sense in a way but still... I love the feel of continuity. Recurring characters sound good, though I doubt any of them will be companions. The game will be set half a century after BG1/BG2? Edit. Actually more like 150 years after, I think? All in all I am preparing for a disappointment, just in case.

Possibly bc of the existing novels? Keeping things simple? Of course I am not 100% sure but that's how I interpreted Swen Vincke's words in the Fextralife interview.

Which is just a weird opinion to have given how silly Baldur's Gate 1 was. Random stuff off the top of my head: * Clicking on bears in the wilderness enough times made them say "That's a nice pickinick basket, BooBoo." * Everything to do with Minsc * Everything to do with Tiax * Everything to do with Xan * Talking a suicidal nobleman from jumping off a cliff by saying nothing but "Okay" * Breaking into a house with a sleeping guy and meowing at him when he wakes up; when he sleepily insists he has no cat, you reply "I'm a stray," which he accepts and rolls over and goes back to sleep * the silly lines that break the fourth wall that all party members utter when you click on them enough times * any number of silly NPCs who serve no purpose but to be silly (One off the top of my head: some woman named Maple Aspen Willow or something who ranted about how much her parents loved trees) And I could keep going. It's a very silly game. It got toned down in later games but never went away. The "Quest Like No Other" from the Wish spell in BG2 much? Which among other things had you recover a guy's prize gong that an ogre mage had been using to scoop cow poo from his prize cow that was suffering from diarrhea. Deekin Scalesinger? The list goes on.

And I could keep going. It's a very silly game. It got toned down in later games but never went away. Don't forget the pantaloon quest. In Throne Of Bhaal, if you collected all the pantaloons over the course of the three games, a smith could turn them into a mech-suit that could shoot exploding bolts and had a ridiculous armor rating. But honestly I would like it when they toned it down a little bit.

Why do they have to make a canon Bhaalspawn? I find that possibly unnecessary at best, and actually disrespectful of the series fans (not to assume yet though) at worst. WotC made a canon PC Bhaalspawn 20 years ago. Said character died along the other remaining Bhaalspawn in Baldur's Gate at the very start of 5e continuity to bring back Bhaal in 1482 DR. That heralded the second Sundering of 1484 DR which is the true start of e5 content. BG3 will start around ~10 years later (going by the existing 5e FR modules timeline). There is no way the character doesn't get referenced, even if it's just "10 years ago, the Blaahspawns fought and the winner rampaged in the city as the Slayer and once killed Bhaal came back, all of him". That also means BG3 is set about ~120 years after the first two games.

Realistically, the BG games were always off in some kind of parallel universe Forgotten Realms anyway because there is no way that something as potentially substantive as the Bhaalspawn becoming a god was going to be left in the air. It has no more impact on the underlying world than if your DM lets you kill Elminster in some campaign. That stuff doesn't stick.
I don't really want them to try to carry on some Bhaalspawn continuity alternate reality. I'd just as soon keep the clean lore and more on. Whatever happens with Bhaalspawn isn't what happened with *my* Bhaalspawn because he was always off in some other dimension anyway.

I don't care about a canon Bhaalspawn as long as I can keep going back to the first two games and play a Bhaalspawn the way I want.

Every time I see the trailer I can't help but hope that transformation (can't remember what it's called) is as painful for the Mindflayer as it is for the Flaming Fist guy. I guess it annihilated the person's soul as well as their body...yikes! I love hating mindflayers. 🐙🤕

Within a matter of days, it transforms the body it steals into an adult illithid, and all traces of the creature’s former being are permanently extinguished. " According to the Monster Manual ( 4th Edition ) I for one, hope to meet that Spectator Beholder from BG2 again.

I am still not sure if they aren't going to go down the exact same route as BioWare for they went from an indie studio with shoestring budgets to being given what seems to be a huge budget and needs to aim for a larger audience. Divinity Original Sin 2 had its sales hurt by a metacritic score of 93? It's the best reviewed PC game since 2015 (since The Witcher 3 which was also a 93 on PC). Divinity Original Sin 2, the 9th most sold PC game of 2017, had its sales hurt? It's the only not cash-shop supported game on the top 10 and only Destiny 2 released later in 2017. BioWare never made indie games. They worked for publishers (Interplay, Infogrames/Atari, LucasArts, Microsoft) who funded their games and didn't own a single IP until EA bought them and got the Jade Empire and ME rights back from Microsoft. Sven turned Larian indie and self-publishing after they were forced to make Divinity 2: Ego Draconis a 3rd person action RPG by their publisher 10 years ago (the series was isometric originally). He's not going to go back to that (which is sad, as Divinity 2 is an awesome game).
