So far the companions gathering reminds me of BG1/BG2, outside everyone having tadpoles, people are in random places doing their own things until you stumble on them. I'm not even sure all the origins will have tadpoles at this point.
Just like I'm not sure how the game will work if you start as Lae'zel or Shadowheart.
I have barely tried to do things in the game too. Focusing on the main quest and leaving stuff for later. I might also reroll to another class. I actually like the Warlock, but I need something that can smack things in the face, not from afar.

Larian Studios is Gathering Their Party @larianstudiosWe've just released Hotfix #2 - 'After The Storm' for Baldur's Gate 3! Many of the issues you've been reporting to us should be solved by this hotfix, there's still a few quirks to work out but we're getting there! Check out the post for more info! store.steampowered.com/newshub/app/1086940/view/2896336186734531133We’ve been updating the support FAQ with the most relevant and up to date solutions or workarounds for reported issues. The FAQ is here: larian.com/support/baldur-s-gate-3We still recommend launching the game in DX11 mode if you’re experiencing crashes or framerate issues. However, those of you who were experiencing issues streaming with OBS while using the Vulkan API should find this fixed. (You may wish to re-install OBS). Graphical quirks on Nvidia 3080 cards have also been fixed. Fun story: because the card was so wildly popular, we couldn’t source any to test with prior to launch. We still don’t have one. At this point, we’re pretty sure you guys made up the RTX 3080. Prove it exists by sending one to us. We should be back soon with a bigger update and patch. In that update, we’ll go deeper into launch, and share with you some insights. Until then! Patch Notes BG3 Hotfix #2 (version BG3 EA 4.1.83.5246) Fixed multiplayer combat connectivity issues Fixed a crash at the end of Early Access content while playing multiplayer Fixed a crash when talking to Halsin in multiplayer Fixed a crash when returning to main menu from a dialog Fixed a crash when arriving in main menu related to corrupted savegames Fixed a startup crash related to integrated graphics This hotfix is now live on Steam, will be on GOG soon and on Stadia a little later.

Is there a reliable way to link characters together so they follow you?
Unlinking them seems to work, but getting them to relink together has been an issue.

Relinking only works if they're already close. The interface could be clearer about why that fails.

*sigh* I'm in the goblin fort, with the bear, doing the kill x bosses thing. I can't think of a good way of doing this without bear accompanying because the bosses are always with their underlings so the battle is always going to be in numbers. In any case, I destroyed the wardrums in one of the passage and yet a patrolling goblin used it (beating on invisible air) to summon adds. That's EA alright.

Someone posting an apt observation / critique of the game. Originally posted by Billtriss: So most companions in BG3 EA are "evil", selfish or lacking compassion :
Lae'zel come from a society that does not care for other races and see them as lesser beings, and treat everyone as such. Shadowheart is a cleric of an evil goddess and care only about her duty to said evil goddess. Anything else is a waste of time. Astarion is a vampire and care only about his survival, regardless of the cost to others. This is well and good. It's not a problem per se : it's interesting to have companions that are anti-heros.
There is, however, a problem:
Evil NPC disapprove of doing quests, and this is really frustrating.
The game is about doing quests and doing content. But quests usually involve accepting a request for help. This is core to playing the game.
But every help given is systematically met with disapproval by the majority of your party.
To only slightly exaggerate, it too often comes down to this :
"Please help us find our leader. He is powerful and influential, and will for sure make it worth your while if saved. We will owe you one." Ok dude, I will do your quest, we have an understanding. Shadowheart disapproves Astarion disapproves Lae'zel disapproves Your visceral reaction, as the player, is exasperation: "man shut the **** up, stop giving me sh** for playing the damn game!"
Suggestions on evil companion disapproving: Evil companion disapproval should not come from accepting requests for help.
It should come from how the request is resolved.
For example
Quest is accepted no reaction (they can still comment on it. Just no change in approval ratings) Quest is resolved by refusing payment, as the refugees are really struggling Evil companion disapproves Quest is resolved by insisting on a getting paid, even though the refugees are really struggling Evil companion approves tl;dr : don't throw disapproval for playing the game's content. It's annoying and unfair to players who want to play the content you made for them. Evil players still want to do quests, they just want those quests to end in a way that benefits primarily to them.
This is exactly how I felt when I kept seeing disapprovals. How the sam hill am I suppose to play the game then? Evil companions should by rights turn situations to their own gain if they see a profit in doing so, not flagging disapproval like popcorn just for accepting quests. Or sabotage a quest in such a way that the result is an ambiguous conclusion, leaving the player caught in the middle between kicking that companion out and conceding that they had a point though it rankles that they gain something from it.

We can see Astarion's vampire bite marks on his neck in certain cutscenes. Nice attention to details. I finally meet Raphael. He's probably the only thing Shadowheart and Lae'Zel agree on. Except for totally different reasons. I killed mommy Owlbear. I think I made a bad choice before going in her cave. Wait I'm not supposed to care, I'm evil. I wasn't expecting that from Auntie Ethel. Astarion's reaction scene was awesome, mannerism and all. He's really growing on me, the swarmy bastard. Shadowheart took a bit of a dip into creepy and dark now. Going by companions gaining/losing approval when you talk to others around camp, I get the feeling pleasing everyone is going to be way harder then in DOS2 (where it was super easy). I can't decide if Gale and Shadowheart travelling banter is them flirting or not. And now I'm going to reroll.

I haven't got disapproval for accepting a quest so far. It's all about how you go about accepting them, just don't pick the "goody-two-shoes" dialogue options.

I bypassed that owlbear though I did run into that dog. Also skirted the village that's overrun by goblins because the party was getting kicked about by the archers on the roof. I headed straight for the goblin fort which meant I likely missed out a few things. Now I'm on the task of taking down three bosses. Took out two, down to the third. I think he's the real big guy and I'm having problems because his underlings threw plenty of missiles from the word go. I'm down to one caustic bulb. The bear is really hampering the MC's movement and in one attempt, throwing the bulb caused the bear to be thrown (ricochet effect even though he was not in the target circle) into the pit.

But Wyll can die the first time you see him and after some other event if not recruited apparently (could be bug). You could kill Astarion before really understanding he is a companion (ignoring the marketing). I think you can kill Shadowheart in the ship if you take too much time to go to the helm. You can easily miss Lae'zel. Maybe they will turn on you. I personally prefer it this way, gives them proper personality and they aren't there to be your friends. I actually had a conversation about that with Shadowheart...but you will be my friend Shadowheart. Oh yes you will. I think I'm going to role a Cleric of Selûne just to troll her...

I've been playing as a drow fighter and it's been so much fun, especially with the ability to intimidate everyone. I'm glad I went with fighter because it saved me in the chapel and goblin battle (went into all this blind). I literally had Shadowheart reviving Gale in a corner every turn while I tanked the damage. I thought the party would be wiped at the very start of the battle but it was a good feeling to be able to beat them without much preparation.
I don't mind the companions disapproving of every thing you do, granted I'm not playing a goody two shoes but it makes sense to me that they wouldn't all get along or approve of your actions especially if you sidetrack from the main goal. Gale is probably my least favourite so far, he just seems suss and doesn't have a very sincere personality. Shadowheart is my favourite companion so far. Astarion is just weird. He is growing on me, I think if I were to romance anyone with my current PC it would be him.

Well, I bought the game already. I bugged out really hard a few times already, which is annoying but to be expected I guess. Also should have done some more reading beforehand. I was going to multiclass a ranger into a wizard, but there's no multiclassing in early access my ability points are rather stupid now, ha.

I think I'm going to reroll with a Dwarven Ranger. A melee Ranger Knight with the urban tracker feature. Skills will be all the nature themed ones.
Let see how different that feels from my warlock. I will also switch the party around a bit. I will leave Astarion and Gale behind for Wyll and Lae'zel.

Everybody read the EULA, right? "Upon accepting this Pact, you take on an additional quest to submit to Larian one (1) recording of a chant, song, text, poem or interpretive dance performed by you and extolling your interest in the Forgotten Realms. Should you decline to undertake and finish this quest within the first three winters following your acceptance of this Pact, you forfeit subsequent fame, fortune, and/or infamy as a founding member of our Guild of Great Genius. You hereby grant Larian Studios a worldwide, perpetual, and royalty-free license to share such recordings through Larian Studios' social media channels."

Companion romance spoiler looks like they can hookup with each others if you aren't in a romance with them. At least, Lae'zel does with either Astarion and Wyll.

Well, I bought the game already. I bugged out really hard a few times already, which is annoying but to be expected I guess. Also should have done some more reading beforehand. I was going to multiclass a ranger into a wizard, but there's no multiclassing in early access my ability points are rather stupid now, ha. While I knew MC wasn't in the EA, it was only after I got going I found my Eldritch Knight build just wasn't going to work here. So... Battlemaster it was. I guess my ability scores aren't bad, Dex-based builds work fine. Though my Int is a little higher than I'd want for a BM.
