Update: After completing the Remake (Part 1), I have decided to finally play the original Final Fantasy VII. I'm not just doing just this to prove my worth and say "I've played the original!" I want to actually experience the original story that started it all. I became a fan of the world, characters, and music because of Advent Children & Crisis Core way before the Remake, and they were part of the original continuity. Besides, it would be nice to do this to also compare and contrast, and prepare for more difference to come for the next part of the Remake.

Never played the original, but I loved this remake. The world is at times idiotic though. There's a part where Cloud 'hides' and his entire head and half his sword are visible. Shinra's looking for some terrorists, one of which has a mini gun for an arm and the other carries a sword almost as big as himself and... no one bats an eye as they move about Midgar. Only one person notices Cloud in a dress is actually Cloud, and it isn't even a person who knows him. Even Tifa needs to hear his voice. Among other things. But then I realise it's a Japanese game and I don't really care anymore

Hmmm. Sword a little impractical? I sense I'm going to have to get accustomed to the house style...
That was the style of the time. on the bright side it makes a bit more sense for him as he is superhuman. Infused with pure magic energy.

I love the remake, I am concerned about certain changes that might happen in episode 2 or whatever they call it. Weird in that the OG game is super old but I don't want to spoil what might happen in later parts of the game series.

Only one person notices Cloud in a dress is actually Cloud, and it isn't even a person who knows him. Even Tifa needs to hear his voice. It made more sense in the original where the graphics aren't very detailed and there's no voice acting, so I wondered how they would do it in the remake. I love how they they just played it completely straight and no one has any idea it's a guy. It's like that scene in Futurama where they dress up an ape to look like Leela so that Lrrr wouldn't eat her.

I finished this a few days ago and am attempting to make it my first platinum on PS4. (I've already got that darn pullup trophy, so that's half the battle, right there.) My first FF was 10 when it came out, followed by 7, 8, 11, 10-2, 12, and 14. I bought 7 and 8 as a result of playing 10 and tried both, but I never finished 7. I barely remember it, but I know I got out of Midgar and somehow ended up in Red's village? I remember him howling. Then I took a break, came back, had no idea where to go from there, and that was that. lol I did see Advent Children when it came out a few years later, though, and knew I liked the world and Sephiroth is scary. FF7R Spoilers ahead, obviously....
I absolutely loved this game, though. And I personally love that its story may turn out to be an AU of the original, rather than just a remaster. (I know it was marketed as if it was a remaster, though, so I can get why ppl who came in looking for that might be a little "Uhhh..... " about the changes that are happening.) I just have a general love of AUs and "what if?" scenarios. And I think its great we're all in for a new twist with this. I mean, yeah, that twist could be bad. But it seems pretty cool so far, so I'm down. Cloud is best... something. Boi? Waifu? I dunno. lol I love him to bits, though. I very much root for him. The whole cast was great. Shipping-wise I'm definitely team Tifa, but I get the Aerith side of the argument. Tifa's resolution scene was prolly my favorite character moment in the whole game, though. My favorite boss fight was Rufus and Darkstar. I want a DLC mission to play as them. I want a pet that enchants my ammo as I shoot through gil and my bullets turn into rail shots. Srsly, favorite fighting style in the game. I was spending half my bullet time choosing my actions and half the time gushing about how cool he was. XD Also, I love that they seem to be visually paralleling him and Cloud a bit at the end, which implies he'll have a large role to come. And he's one of the only people who could see the Whispers, which was very interesting.
And I agree it was silly even Tifa didn't recognize Cloud, but Leslie does. XD Though, yay for Leslie being observant. He's probably my favorite side character that I don't fight. Was so happy when it turned out I was reading him correctly from the moment I met him. So later, when Barret is all "We don't trust you! >[", I'm just sitting there like "I do! I trust you completely!" lol And I was legit worried the don was gonna shoot him. (Also, holy crap, Corneo can fight?! That was an actually well executed self defense move! I mean, it makes sense cus he had to be able to protect himself at some point in the past, but now I have to reassess expectations about him entirely. Ugh.)
I do know most of the major story beats from the original game (mostly from FF7 Machinima Abridged, but still >_>), but I definitely think I'm gonna hold off on actually playing the original. I don't want to get attached to how they "did it in the OG" and then have that take away my enjoyment when something happens in the remakes that diverges, especially something I'd otherwise find cool.

Cloud is great. And Sephiroth, too. I miss the summons from the original. In the remake summons couldn't be used very much. There were even some boss fights where I didn't get to use them.
I went with Tifa for Cloud, but I wish I had gone with Barret. I will try to switch it up in part 2 if they let me. Tifa was so cruel to Barret! When Barret thought that Marlene died, Tifa said it was Barret's fault she died. What a thing to say to someone who thought they lost a child!

When Barret thought that Marlene died, Tifa said it was Barret's fault she died. What a thing to say to someone who thought they lost a child! I'm pretty sure she said it was "our" fault, not his specifically. Like, Avalanche as a group. And she was clearly blaming herself there, which is why Barret comforts her by telling her that she can't think like that. Its like when Wedge says they're due for a reckoning, or Jessie says she deserved this cus they were her victims. Just saying.
I do wish Barret's resolution scene would play regardless of which girl you get. Him bonding with Cloud is great.
And yeah summons being a little more predictable in their summoning would be good. Like a bar you can consciously work towards filling, similar to Limit Breaks, maybe. Especially since they are not instant win buttons like they are in 15. Though apparently summons have sizes and this restricted them from showing up in some boss fights/arenas. So, that might be why you barely had them proc in some cases.

I've restarted (I only got 10 minutes in the first time). I realised I needed to clear the decks of other games that might distract me, because the control scheme is different enough that I can't simply bounce between games. I don't have must background with JRPGs. Never played it first time around.

It's been a while since I played a game that hooked me as strongly as this one. For spoiler reasons I can't discuss much (I never played the original). Means I can't give much away with images either, but I'm here and it's glorious.

It took me a while to figure out how the timing worked visually. I have negative observation skills, I based it on where it appeared to be and not based on the image filling or whatever you want to call it. When I finally figured it out it only took another try or two.

I'm glad I recorded that part so I can play it back and actually enjoy the craziness instead of worrying about the buttons. Though even while playing, it was still fun. Love the last section of music the best.
No shuffle dance for Cloud! After his vogueing in the practice section being mostly just him swinging the sword, I didn't have super high hopes, but our boy can move.

Anyway, ever since I booted up this game I'm only wandering one thing:
WHEN WILL YOU GIVE CHRONO TRIGGER THE SAME TREATMENT, SQUARE????
In all caps, cause I'm screaming.

Recently started playing this one. Am I the only one annoyed by the ghost-writers constantly showing up uninvited to ruin my fun? These guys have a knack for turning my victories into defeats so much so it feels pointless to even fight the damn battles. Seriously, at one point I was considering letting the timer run out just to spite them. Additionally, I can't help but notice this game is a bit padded out, most often in the form of several obstacles blocking your way when moving from A to B. I sometimes found myself thinking, "You could've replaced this with a cutscene and saved me 20 minutes of boring work." On the other hand, sometimes there are too many cutscenes over the space of a few minutes that kill any and all momentum. So far, the highlight of my experience has been dancing with Andrea at the Honeybee Inn. I also enjoyed doing the side quests with Aerith on Sector 5.
PS: Shame you don't have outfits to equip like in LR.

Sephiroth appearing to Cloud near the beginning of he game might have caused a bit of a butterfly effect, and those "ghosts" reacted and desperately attempted to ensure every event falls into the proper place.

I'm near (hopefully) the end of the game and they lowkey ruined the climax. There was a nice fight against Jenora, Rufus and that giant robot. And it was already tiring as it was. That road fight is completely unnecessary and I'm too exhausted to continue.

I know I died a 3 or so times in that section, myself. Which was frustrating cus I one-shotted the other fights you mentioned, so it felt like hitting a wall to suddenly keep failing.
Good news? You can skip it entirely upon subsequent playthroughs. lol
And yes you are nearing the end.

Could you please tell me how to hit enemies at your right? I tried using the stick in all directions, but Cloud only attack left.
