Well, we're in for another six weeks of stricter lockdown here in Melbourne. *sigh*
Very necessary to get our numbers under control, but I'd be lying if I said I was looking forward to another month and a half of this. I wanna get back in the pool!

but hey I love lockdown, I can't wait to do it some more said no one ever If it weren't for the economical repercussions I totally would. During our lockdown it was so quiet, hardly any people were outside, no cars, no planes, the air was noticeably cleaner. I enjoyed this a lot, I had a great time, no joke.

Here is a helpful link to the original post. Let's try to stick to phoray 's guideline. I'm sorry Aus is having to re-lockdown. Aside from un-necessary political bun-fighting, most people I see here are doing what they believe to be necessary. Which is quite nice, actually. The big question remains as to when, if and how the schools are going to re-open. In this time of social isolation, it's important that we support each other as best we can. #kumbayalinebutimeanit

"Treatment with hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, and combination in patients hospitalized with COVID-19" from the International Journal of Infectious Diseases. www.ijidonline.com/article/S1201-9712(20)30534-8/fulltextConclusion: "In this multi-hospital assessment, when controlling for COVID-19 risk factors, treatment with hydroxychloroquine alone and in combination with azithromycin was associated with reduction in COVID-19 associated mortality. Prospective trials are needed to examine this impact."

The sad fact is we're going to have to learn to live with this thing. Shutting things down till we get a reliable cure might not work and is black and white thinking.

Just in case anyone is unaware: In the US hydroxychloroquine is not approved by the FDA as a treatment for COVID-19, and its emergency use authorization was revoked. There were concerns about the risk of serious side effects from the drug, especially heart rhythm problems. Here are the quotations from the FDA's site: www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-safety-and-availability/fda-cautions-against-use-hydroxychloroquine-or-chloroquine-covid-19-outside-hospital-setting-or"A summary of the FDA review of safety issues with the use of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to treat hospitalized patients with COVID-19 is now available. This includes reports of serious heart rhythm problems and other safety issues, including blood and lymph system disorders, kidney injuries, and liver problems and failure." "Based on ongoing analysis and emerging scientific data, FDA has revoked the emergency use authorization (EUA) to use hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to treat COVID-19 in certain hospitalized patients when a clinical trial is unavailable or participation is not feasible. We made this determination based on recent results from a large, randomized clinical trial in hospitalized patients that found these medicines showed no benefit for decreasing the likelihood of death or speeding recovery. This outcome was consistent with other new data, including those showing the suggested dosing for these medicines are unlikely to kill or inhibit the virus that causes COVID-19. As a result, we determined that the legal criteria for the EUA are no longer met."

I wanna get back in the pool! Well, Melbourne is a long way from Anchorage, Alaska. Tomorrow, we too will backtrack into a partial hunker-down. The bars will close and some other non-essential businesses will face increased restrictions. It's won't be as harsh as the first one (yet) but it is rather discouraging. Schools are now expected to most certainly beginning online. The economic impact will certainly be a death knell for some businesses and working families are scraping together additional resources for childcare. If enough people would have just masked, socially distanced, and washed their hands like they were supposed to, we might not be seeing this surge. As for the rest of the state, this is Alaska on May 29th when I originally posted this: This is Alaska now, 8/2/2020: It's not only the usual crowds that are to blame either. As I said in an earlier post, the commercial fishing season with its long hours and cramped bunkhouses would make things worse. It did. There are plenty of sick cannery workers and fishermen. I hope we can contain this crud soon. An ammendment to the last graphic image I posted:

Frustrating as lockdown is, I am not putting my hand up to be one of the people who doesn't live with COVID-19 because they die from it instead. At this point, not locking Victoria down would be irresponsible. Without more knowledge of its lasting effects on people who survive and how long their immunity lasts we don't know what the long-term effects of letting it run wild in the community are likely to be.
Anyway, fingers crossed we'll have a functioning vaccine soon, even if it takes a while to make it available to everyone.

As much as your local EMT doesn't want to violate any privacy concerns...
Your local EMT wishes everyone would wear your masks so that the EMS division could be at regular strength and she could run codes without putting on full PPE first, the concept of which has been stressing her out.

This rant is to no one here on the BSN, but a response to what I am seeing a lot of on the News in Toronto; an addendum to the post above by Trilobute Derby.
In other words use common sense, respect other people (and their personal space) and follow the rules handed down by your local government even if you don't agree with them. If our frontline healthcare workers and other First Responders (EMS/EMTs, Ambulance attendants, Nurses, Doctors, firefighters, police officers and the like) all get sick because of a select number of people who refuse to wear masks, then choose to go out and party with hundreds of other like-minded idiots....there won't be enough First Responders to help people who truly need it, and it would be a shame for those who are following the directives to get sick because of the few who refuse to follow the rules because of foolishness. They don't believe it's real, they think it's BS,, they think it's a government scam to keep people from socializing and living their lives, their individual rights are being trampled on-- it's all about them. But, what about the rights of the other people you come in contact with who don't want to risk getting sick? Don't they have rights?
Right, I forgot...it's all about you. I am sick and tired of seeing/hearing people on the news saying "I have RIGHTS! I have a right to not wear a mask! I have a right to do whatever I want! I have a right to (get other people sick)! What about MY RIGHTS?! How DARE YOU take away MY RIGHTS!!!"

People who wear masks with their nose sticking out start to annoy me. Today at the grocery store I saw a dude with the nose out, in a very friendly manner I told him that the mask is useless if worn that way, he replied that they're generally useless. I told him that tons of studies say otherwise and if he can tell me the reasons why he thinks that they're useless at preventing spreading airborne diseases. He couldn't come up with a reply. I left. Eh, idiot people. Speaking of stupid, I sadly know several people who think its all a big hoax or some government conspiracy to take peoples rights away. Yeah, totally makes sense, rich people take over the world starting by making them wear a piece of cloth over their faces and trashing the economy. Makes perfect sense, that's exactly what I would do if I were an evil genius lusting for power. Ah, there would be one difference, I would make people wear masks with my cool syndicate insignia so they know whos in charge now.

Hubs and I were on a plane March 16th. 19 days later, and maybe about 3 grocery trips where we attempted careful shopping techniques...April 5th we both felt like crud. This escalated. We had fever of 100+ for 11-12 days. followed by coughing for 1 week. And shortness of air during regular activities, such as picking up a laundry basket, for two weeks. I marked April 23rd as when I resumed exercise, but I could barely handle 30 minutes of 2 mph walking. There was no testing at the time that was available. We assumed we had COVID and quarantined appropriately.
Hubs got his antibodies checked via red cross June 21st. Positive. I got my antibodies checked July 18th. Positive. So at least we got an unknown level of protection for an unknown amount of time for our trouble.
I'm cleaning a lot at work. If two healthy adults can be knocked flat 2+ weeks, then actual sick people don't have much of a chance. And I just don't want to be having that on my conscious.

A $4659 fine has been announced here if you are caught breaking imposed isolation rules (confirmed cases I would guess, and probably those pending results). Also those still working in essential services will also need to apply for a permit to travel later on today. I'll be having to do this in the afternoon, hopefully the website doesn't crash Surely though, the nearly $5k fine will deter the 800 people who were meant to be at home isolating but were not present when police door knocked.

Actually, I am not. Gwinnett is a large 'suburban' county. That they have a lot of positives is no real surprise. While the numbers of infected are large (and in some cases, sadly, growing) as a percentage of the total population they are still relatively few. It's hard in the face of scary anecdotal evidence to keep our heads, but that is what we must do. Some simple personal actions can reduce an ordinary person's risk to near zero. So there is no need to panic for most of us. A We live very near the CDC. When I see my neighbours panicking, I will start panicking. Until then we wear our masks, don't go out much and work mostly from home. N0t much has changed from, before the covid outbreak.

Also get your hearts and lungs checked with x-ray and ultrasonic scans, there are many cases where Covid19 left people with permanent heart and lung damage no matter the severity of the cases. That's something you need to be aware of.-

If two healthy adults can be knocked flat 2+ weeks, then actual sick people don't have much of a chance. And I just don't want to be having that on my conscious. I'm glad to hear you are both feeling better now. It's really disconcerting how Covid-19 can sometimes take down healthy adults like yourselves and leave others with few symptoms.

The sad fact is we're going to have to learn to live with this thing. Shutting things down till we get a reliable cure might not work and is black and white thinking. Frustrating as lockdown is, I am not putting my hand up to be one of the people who doesn't live with COVID-19 because they die from it instead. [snip]
Exactly this. People should remember that COVID-19 is a killer. And even if it doesn't kill you, it might kill someone close to you.
Economy-wise, I prefer the living as well. The dead don't get paychecks, benefits or pensions. Consumption is large part of the GDP after all.
