Things are looking bad in the UK at the moment. Patients here are getting younger and sicker than the first wave. Stay safe people.

Things are pretty bad here in the US. I haven't read the thread in ages, but I'm sure this has already been discussed. It's dire when 3000+ deaths in a day is a pretty good day.
My friend's wife passed today from COVID-19. This is the second close friend we've had die from this virus, and we knew a great many who passed in NYC in the early days. I'm not sure how she got sick; maybe I will learn in time.
I'm very high risk due to numerous genetic health problems. My wife and I are extremely careful. It's pretty infuriating to see my neighbors walking about like unmasked assholes. They make no effort to follow even the most basic mitigating practices. Sadly, I live in an area where politics has been tied into this health issue, as well as near a university full of reckless, thoughtless young people.
Sigh. I just wanted to vent. I'm sitting in bed in the dark and people with sense are in short supply. It's incredible to me that people still aren't behaving as if this is real and serious. Humans are capable of profound willful ignorance.

Unfortunately those inconsiderate covidiots are everywhere, it's not just the US. Yesterday I went to a small grocery shop and it was like I had stepped into another time; no-one was wearing masks, not even the clerk. I'm avoiding that place like the plague from now on.
Please, vent away, it's the purpose of this thread. It helps to know that there are still sensible people that take every precaution in order to live through this.

Humans are capable of profound willful ignorance. Sorry to hear your place has its fair share of idiots as well. Around here, strangely, its mainly people in hardware stores that don't give a flying F about wearing a mask or taking any precautions to stop spreading the disease. We have proper laws that mandate wearing masks but there is absolutely nobody around to enforce the laws, so many people just don't care. What's especially infuriating is those idiot conspiracy morons attending to those anti-corona demonstrations, thousands walking in tight formations with no mask screaming at the top of their lungs. As if this would actually help with anything. Today 2 more neighbors died from Covid, an elderly couple. 7 neighbors so far. In any case, stay safe. Wear a proper FFP3 mask if you can get one, don't eat uncooked foods and/or food that isn't wrapped. Wash your hands a dozen times a day. Stay at home. Endure & hold tight till the vaccine arrives. Couple more months and things will get better, due to the warmer weather and the vaccine. And remember, in the past things were FAR worse and we made it.

I got my first vaccine dose today and so far i`m only a bit sore in my arm, which seems to be the most common reaction to the first dose. Other hospital workers that already received the second dose said the reaction to the second one were a bit more rough. Still, i think it`s worth it, right now things are looking bad in my country and this week we started a new confinement, i have to have hope that the vaccines will help. Stay home and stay safe everyone. Element Zero I'm sorry for your loss. It`s truly sad and awful that after all this dreadful months there`s still people that don`t take precautions and don`t wear masks.

Here only people who had direct contact with the person who got the disease can get tested. I wasn't even told to stay home or something. But I decided to, just in case because I don't wanna risk my dad's highly vulnerable health. Like, it's absurd. My teacher's niece only told us to be calm but that, at least for now, they wouldn't do anything about it. They are waiting for the kid's test to get back. If she's positive (it is highly possible she will, I mean, it's her dad who got covid) then they will start to take measures.

After just over two months, we've got another community case. Health Ministry people are investigating but my stress levels have already launched into orbit. Press conference yesterday afternoon was pretty bland, but the real information should come through today. So far, apparently the persons husband and hairdresser have both tested negative (which I'm taking as a good sign), but still on tenterhooks until 4pm.

Almost forgot; the grocery shop I talked about earlier. I saw a guy come out in a full hazmat suit. Not the real hazmat of course, but more like full Tyvek overall with the headgear. I guess he had been there before.

It is the venting thread, so I'll vent.
I miss going out for a pint with my friends. I miss eating out and going out for a pizza. I even miss McDonald's, which is pretty telling. I miss shopping, and I hate shopping, but I need stuff from time to time and deliveries only get you so far. I miss seeing people and talking to people without having to worry about catching the bug for a second time. And I am scared that it will come back to finish the job.

They told me to expect more possible side effects with the second injection. It's been 2 days and so far nothing different than the mild soreness and tired feeling I had with the first shot. Maybe just a tiny bit more tired. Other than that, nothing. Everybody needs to do this unless their doctor tells them otherwise. It won't mean that one can quit masking and social distancing right away, but it certainly will improve the odds of staying well.

Glad to hear that you only got minor side effects from it, i`m hoping that`s all i get too. From what i`ve heard, in my workplace the most common side effect have been tiredness (they felt a lot more tired than with the first shot), also a few people got a minor fever but nothing relevant. And yes, i agree with you that the vaccination will help but we`ll have to continue to have all the security measures for a while yet.

Indeed - that exact scenario happened here a week or so back. They'd done their mandatory 2 weeks in Managed Isolation after returning to the country, negative final test, let out into the community and started showing symptoms a couple of days later. Thankfully it didn't catch hold and start spreading - all her contacts have tested negative (twice, in some cases) - but it was a nervous few days.

Today I got shot number two.
We've still not had a single influensa case this season. Influensa is down 95% globally as far as I know. The same goes for all the other viruses like calici and the common cold. So even when this pandemic is over we would be royally stupid if we go back to business as usual. We don't have to quarantine but I'm done with handshakes among other things. No need for germophobia but at the same time needless social contact isn't optimal.

As annoying as masks can be, I kind of hope this is a habit that ends up sticking with us, at least through the annual cold and flu season. While I did catch covid in November despite wearing a mask all the time***, I have so far managed to avoid my usual yearly cold, and as brought up elsewhere on this page, flu cases have drastically dropped all over the world. Once people build up immunity to covid, maybe we as a society could reduce how many sick days we have to take every winter.
***No, I wasn't partying or going to raves, I caught it at work. I don't have the option of working remotely.

While this would be a good thing for sure, I highly doubt this is going to happen around here where I live. The majority of people here still view masks as a form of oppression and after this pandemic they will view it as a thing that reminds them of a terrible time. No, I very much doubt masks will become a ''trend'', sadly. Speaking of masks, today I got 10 pcs FFP3 masks with no valves, they weren't easy to find, and they are awesome.

But... when am I supposed to catch up on sleep and gaming time when I'm not out with a cold for 3-5 days anymore?!? Where I work we congratulate one other for catching a cold and not having to come to the office. I'm not kidding.

As annoying as masks can be, I kind of hopeOnce people build up immunity to covid, maybe we as a society could reduce how many sick days we have to take every winter. But... But... when am I supposed to catch up on sleep and gaming time when I'm not out with a cold for 3-5 days anymore?!? Where I work we congratulate one other for catching a cold and not having to come to the office. I'm not kidding. Last time I had the flu I could not lift weights for two weeks! TWO WEEKS. Makes me want to wear freaking deep-sea scuba diving gear during flu season!
