But... But... when am I supposed to catch up on sleep and gaming time when I'm not out with a cold for 3-5 days anymore?!? Where I work we congratulate one other for catching a cold and not having to come to the office. I'm not kidding. Last time I had the flu I could not lift weights for two weeks! TWO WEEKS. Makes me want to wear freaking deep-sea scuba diving gear during flu season!Β Haven't had the flu since I was ten. Not keen on catching it as an adult. Regular colds I get all the time though. 3-4 times a year. Last year was no different despite masks.

Not keen on catching it as an adult. Regular colds I get all the time though. 3-4 times a year. Last year was no different despite masks. I had the flu 4 years ago or so, thankfully virus infections are always very mild when I get them, just three days of high fever and that's it. But the flu is notorious for doing damage to the heart if you don't rest properly. A friend of mine died in his 40's because he did not rest and worked hard in the office despite feeling like crap from the flu. When he felt very nauseous he was hospitalized, they found out his heart suffered severe damage, damage caused by the infection. During the surgery his condition worsened so rapidly he never woke up again, leaving 2 children and a wife. That's why I did not do any lifting for two weeks after the infection, I was super scared of screwing up my heart, and after two weeks of rest I did only very mild exercise compared to what I normally do. That caused a setback in my overall strength, it took me two months to get back to 100%.

While this would be a good thing for sure, I highly doubt this is going to happen around here where I live. Yeah, where I live, a not-insignificant number of people still think covid was a commie plot to get Joe Biden elected and they're waiting for the "fake" virus to just disappear any day now. Still, they kind of go through the motions of wearing a mask while out in public. I can hope, right? But... But... when am I supposed to catch up on sleep and gaming time when I'm not out with a cold for 3-5 days anymore?!? I hate missing work for any illness because it takes me twice as long to catch up afterward. Funnily enough, catching covid when I did allowed me to play Assassin's Creed Valhalla at launch, although only for an hour or two because I really didn't feel great. (Not to downplay the potential severity of the virus, though. I was lucky to not get a more severe variety and I would still have preferred to not catch it at all.)

Yeah no more handshaking, I've never liked touching complete strangers anyway. I think simple verbal greeting should be more than sufficient. That's all well and good for us stiff neck Northeners. But what are we going to tell to our Southern friends with all the hugging and kissing?

While this would be a good thing for sure, I highly doubt this is going to happen around here where I live. The majority of people here still view masks as a form of oppression and after this pandemic they will view it as a thing that reminds them of a terrible time. No, I very much doubt masks will become a ''trend'', sadly. Speaking of masks, today I got 10 pcs FFP3 masks with no valves, they weren't easy to find, and they are awesome. Those would be neat, but around here they cost almost 10 bucks a piece, which is outrageous.

Not trying to be cynical, but most claims of "this changes everything" end up being vastly, almost comically overblown.
On topic, my sister and BIL will get their first shot this week and will be scheduled at that time for their second shot. That's a big relief. He has six preconditions which would make contracting the virus fatal (not my opinion, but stated by one of his doctors).
Both my sister and I have truncated our lives in ways that go beyond reasonable precautions β¦ because we can't afford to drag some pathogen back to him. A shot this month, a shot next month β¦ and maybe by May, we can at least reduce our precautions to be in line with most others.
I'm in tier 3, so I don't expect to get the shot(s) until this summer at the earliest β¦ but taking normal precautions until we reach herd immunity will feel a lot less onerous than the current regimen.

Hey now, I miss hugging I miss half of the population not being crazy conspiracy nuts. Even some of my relatives now think that this is some grand scheme to start a new era of tyrannical government, or the ''great reset'' where all national depts will be reset. And that the vaccine will make you sterile or get cancer in a year to fix overpopulation. As if the virus alone was not annoying enough, no, stupidity is also rampant now.

Just watched TV (I'm super bored) and there was an interview with an expert saying that they just found out with their tests that not only the vaccines do not work against the mutated African version of Covid, the mutant also leads to worse cases. If that's really true then we are in deep shit, that would mean all the vaccinated people would need to get vaccinated AGAIN with an updated version which is available who knows when.

I admit I was previously too optimistic about the vaccinations. And when the optimist gets pessimistic, you know it's not a good sign. The mutations have proven to be pretty bad: The Oxford vaccine isn't quite cutting it, and covid seems to have an enzyme which makes it somewhat resistant to antiviral drugs. Luckily the Pfizer jab has been quite effective: Israeli Vaccination Data Cause For Optimism
I'd say we are not in deep shit yet, but the Ol' Wellies could be tad taller.

A Recent study shows double-masking is quite efficient: "CDC conducted experiments to assess two ways of improving the fit of medical procedure masks: fitting a cloth mask over a medical procedure mask, and knotting the ear loops of a medical procedure mask and then tucking in and flattening the extra material close to the face. Each modification substantially improved source control and reduced wearer exposure." Source is HereThat's how I'm gonna roll from now on.

Aren't we still supposed to be saving N95 masks for health care workers? Or is that not a thing anymore? I keep seeing more and more people using them. At least, I think that's what they are.
Edit: it seems I'm seeing KN95 masks, not N95. I need to look up the difference.

Edit: it seems I'm seeing KN95 masks, not N95. I need to look up the difference. KN95 is the Chinese standard, N95 meets the US standard and FFP2 is a European standard. They are supposed to be similar, but there are reported cases where the laboratory tests for passing the KN95 standard have been falsified.
I would imagine that mask production has been ramped up significantly, but I'm not sure if there are enough for health care workers. I certainly hope so, since those types of masks are being sold again.

Funny, in Germany FFP2/KN95 masks are now MANDATORY in many grocery stores!
They are also now mandatory in my office. They distributed them to us a couple of weeks ago.
The elderly are sent envelopes with coupons by the government for the good masks to be picked up at pharmacies.
Amazon prices are climbing as a result of these new regulations but it's still easy to get your hands on them. So I guess the shortage is over. At least here.

Uuuuuuugh back in Stage 4 lockdown from midnight. Compulsory masks even outdoors, no leaving the house except for medical care/exercise/supply runs. (Also work for people who can't work from home, but that's not relevant for me personally.) Probably a good idea to do it before out outbreak gets any bigger, but still: uuuuuuuugh.

Heh, for us its the opposite, we just lifted most of the lockdown measures because of the immense pressure of trade and education, despite having rather high numbers and the African mutation spreading. Schools and all businesses are open, but larger crowds, festivals and fitness studios are still not a thing. This is going to be interesting, I expect high numbers and another lockdown in 3-4 weeks.- Germany is already considering closing borders to our country to keep us dirty filthy and sickly peasants from ruining everything. Also we completely and utterly f'd up the acquisition of the vaccines, we ordered way too little and that way too late, now we have barely enough to vaccine all the 80+ year olds, all the others get the vaccine who knows when. Word is its going to be somewhere in fall but I doubt even that. And another interesting thing, there was an infection cluster in a supermarket, it is speculated that an infected worker in the supermarket contaminated unpackaged food by sneezing/coughing. (fresh bread etc). Guess I did good by not buying unpacked / processed food since the outbreak.

Got my second pfizer injection. Safe for at least 3 months, and CDC recently said us vaxxers donβt have to self quarantine 2 weeks after travel (during those 3 months).
Considering everyone else called in sick for 1-3 days due to reactions from the 2nd dose, I dunno what Iβm in for. I had natural antibodies confirmed as recently as late September via the Red Cross, so I dunno if that means Iβll react extra hard or if my body will be like, eh, whatever man. βNeutralized on contactβ.
