I wish the German health minister would stop fear mongering and we'd start going back to a more or less normal life. You know, like the rest of the world
But nooo. German Angst at work. Let's still push for a higher vaccination rate and bully everyone and talk about mandatory vaccinations even though we can plainly see that everyone gets omicron right now! The idea of forced vaccinations when they don't even prevent infection is ludicrous. But we might save a life or two in retirement homes if we force the staff there to be vaccinated. So of course it's justified! Ridiculous!
Also, there MIGHT be a bad mutation on the horizon and we need to be prepared. Let's ignore that vaccinations with a vaccine made for the original strain won't do any good anyway.
Let's keep ignoring the ugly truth that vaccinated people are as much a danger to vulnerable people as the evil selfish unvaccinated people. And that not requiring testing for those with booster shots for any event means they all go and infect one another, feeling safe when they're not.
And we're the only country in the world that has reduced the recovered status from 6 to 3 months because those are bad people and we NEED everyone vaccinated. Screw logic!
It's a complete satire over here. And I'm this close to taking to the streets with the unvaccinated tinfoil hat people to protest this insanity.
At least we've lifted the nonsensical ban on unvaccinated people in stores. Ironically masks are better protection against omicron than the vaccines we currently have.
I really don't want a mandatory vaccine subscription every 3 months. That's completely lunacy at this point imo.

Yeah, that's a problem here as well. Mostly the 'nose out' people. It's been two years. Get it right. Ah, yes, the "chin diaper" fashion statement, as my boss likes to call them. Around here "nose dick" seems to be popular. I wish the German health minister would stop fear mongering and we'd start going back to a more or less normal life. I honestly got the impression that even the infamous health minister of the tri-coalition is following "Durchseuchung" playbook; rolling over and giving up, even if nobody seems inclined to admit it. Case numbers exploding, but eh "everyone's gonna get it anyway", it is always "mild" so fuck those who still don't plan to play infection/Long Covid roulette or have pre-existing conditions.

But I'd like to add, that I really don't want a mandatory vaccine subscription every 3 months. this is not goin to happen, because it wouldn't make any sense immunologically. A Yearly booster might be coming though.

My son's PCR test came back positive. He was exposed, and ran a fever, so it's most likely a true positive. He's fine now, up and about, playing. I guess I'll see now how well the vaccines actually work. I swear, I'm so tired of this pandemic. When this is officially over, I'm gonna do something I haven't for a long time: I will open a bottle of Glenlivet and drink until I get sick.

I honestly think it will eventually be like the flu vaccine. People who are vulnerable to getting ill will automatically be invited back for a booster on an annual basis and everyone else will be left to decide it for themselves. I would recommend anyone over the age of 60 or with an underlying health condition or simply overweight, particularly if they are a man, should opt for getting the annual booster. (During the first wave in 2020 the majority of deaths on my island were men over the age of 60 with an underlying health condition, followed by anyone over 80)
Personally, I will continue to get the booster if offered because of my age and the fact that I do suffer from asthma, although my positive PCR back last spring would suggest I was exposed to the virus at some point and my natural immune system was able to cope. Either that or my first dose of the vaccine worked quicker than they thought as my positive test came 12 days after, so I had picked up the infection some time between getting the jab and taking the test.

If it wasn't so sad I would laugh at the German health minister who now, to his apparent horror, discovers that actually doing the thing is so much harder than constant doomsaying from the sidelines (and all those talk shows).
One of my colleagues at work has gone full tinfoil hat and is convinced that the vaccines contain suspicious nanotech like nano-routers that constantly alert "them" of your current whereabouts and intentions. I suppose that means the booster shots are really firmware updates...

A Yearly booster might be coming though. I wouldn't mind a flu shot/COVID shot combo once a year. But for that to work we need a better vaccine that actually works against new strains. Initially they boasted how easy it is to update the RNA vaccines but then they didn't do a delta one because more money is made continuing to sell the old one. They were deemed good enough. Now if they do come up with a specific omicron vaccine it will be too late for most people. I'm not going to go get a fourth shot any time soon. Most people I've talked to lately are fed up. Two or three shots is the line for them.

If he avoids social media, how on earth did he 'do his own research' and find out that the media and government and Bill Gates are lying to protect the lizard alien overlords that created Covid as a means to control the population?

I'll definitely keep getting it, even after mandates come off (and we don't yet know when that will happen or what the criteria for it is here). Part of the issue, I think, is that vaccines (all, not just the Covid ones) have become a victim of their own success. I know it has been years since I got a flu vaccine. I don't have any distrust of them, obviously. It's just laziness, coupled with complacency. I hadn't had the flu - even a mild case - in over 15 years. I don't know anyone that has had a serious case of it. But it still kills people. Just, not many people. And that's the problem. It's a good problem - not many deaths or serious illnesses - but it leads people - myself included - to think, or at least, act like a problem has gone away, and it hasn't.

If he avoids social media, how on earth did he 'do his own research' and find out that the media and government and Bill Gates are lying to protect the lizard alien overlords that created Covid as a means to control the population? I understand that in his mind, there are those evil social media - all the "standard" ones - and then there's those few trustworthy websites that have the truth. If only all those clueless people would read them and see through the conspiracy... I know it's not logical, just like in his world only evil people are smart, an argument I've tried several times but never got through with.

I know it's not logical, just like in his world only evil people are smart, an argument I've tried several times but never got through with. Heh, I like him already, I too think that if you are intelligent you are bound to become evil eventually, or rather, if you are intelligent you cannot be a good altruistic person, or you can't stay one for long before insanity takes over. In any case, today the chancellor announced that the planned vaccination mandate will be dropped if the experts decide that it will no longer be necessary or it can no longer be justified by the current situation in the hospitals. And the current situation is very relaxed to say the least, there are fewer people in the intensive care unit than in the annual flu season. Fingers crossed, hope they choke on that stupid mandate. Vaccinations yes, I'm vaccinated myself, voluntarily, vaccinations are, in most cases, a good thing, but forcing the entire population of a country to get vaccinated can only be justified when its against an illness that is going to kill people left and right like the plague, because a mandate like that will open the door to forcing people to other ''body modifications'' against their will in the future. And thats something that must never be allowed to happen, but under the most dire of circumstances.

I'll definitely keep getting it, even after mandates come off Luckily the closest thing to mandates where I am is the requirement to have been vaccinated to go to certain events involving crowds, nightclubs and the cinema. I wasn't bothered by the first two and when I went to the cinema midweek back last November to watch Dune, I was one of only two people there. We found it quite amusing that they had the entire cinema to choose from and yet sat us in adjoining seats. They were VIP seats though as they generously offered to bump us up to VIP in view of the lack of customers. I have severe flu symptoms and fever, and I can feel bronchitis setting in. My PCR resuts are not in yet, will keep you posted. What has your doctor advised you to do? Hopefully, it won't be COVID but it doesn't sound good even if it isn't. Wishing you all the best.

My PCR was negative! Which is super weird, but then again fits the bill of random stuff happening. I guess this is just a case of seasonal flu then. I suppose those three jabs actually worked, because my son was sneezing all over, and on me as well. Now, my test result could be a false negative, but I doubt it. My son's quick test was positive, while my quick tests, all six of them, have been negative.

They were deemed good enough. Now if they do come up with a specific omicron vaccine it will be too late for most people. I'm too tired to answer this properly, but I'll give you some pointers: -Three Pfizer jabs gives an excellent protection against Omicron. Again, it's not the money per se. -Why the original vaccine works so well is a mystery. They are studying this however. -They are launching studies to determine whether a long-term booster (think 10 years) could be produced.

The vaccine is said to prevent serious illness which is mostly good enough for oneself. But in terms of stopping the spread and protecting the most vulnerable people it doesn't work with omicron. And when you had delta you're still very likely to get omicron apparently. No protection there between the mutations. That's what I was getting at. There is sadly no protecting people's Le in nursing home. They can get it for anyone vaccinated or not. A ten year booster would booster amazing! I'm highly sceptical. Oh, and get well soon!

The vaccine is said to prevent serious illness which is mostly good enough for oneself. But in terms of stopping the spread and protecting the most vulnerable people it doesn't work with omicron. Unfortunately true. when you had delta you're still very likely to get omicron apparently. Yes. I know several people who have had both variants, while at least twice vaccinated. There is sadly no protecting people's Le in nursing home. Sadly no. This is a bad time to be over 80. A ten year booster would booster amazing! I'm highly sceptical. I was going to make a post about this, but then stuff started to happen. There is a recent study, where they found that some people develop a so-called hybrid immunity. I can link the study if someone wants to read it, but I should warn that it's a tough read. To keep it simple, human immune system usually works like a sniper; it can only handle one target at a time. If you catch the delta variant, your body will produce antibodies specifically against that variant. Then comes along Omicron, and it's time to acquire a target again. But some people's immune system works like a scattergun; it will produce all kinds of antigens that differ slightly and hit multiple targets. But the best part is, that this kind of response comes from the memory B cells, that can live for decades. If we could artificially produce this response ( like we already can with some viruses, like hepatitis B ) it would mean bye bye Covid. Thanks! I'm already a little better. I bet you can tell.

Sorry, yes…that is what I meant. I - to this day - do not know personally know a single person that has been confirmed as a case (which is different to being an infection, of course. I might know people who’ve had it, but just had it really mildly and didn’t even think to get a test). And this is while living in Auckland, my countries biggest city and Covid welcome mat… Wild. I've known...I don't even know anymore. Well over a dozen, definitely. The recent ones have mostly been mild cases or asymptomatic ones (presumably omicron), but still it's been a lot. We've been very short handed at work. No one I personally know has gone to the hospital or died of it, thankfully. Update: Well, it took 2 years and 7 days and 65 deaths from more than 223000 cases since New Zealand's first case on February 28th, 2020...but I now know not one, but two people who've actually had Covid. Both of them are asymptomatic, double vax + boosted and more annoyed than anything else Working as intended.

Understandably, no one is talking about Covid atm, but it still is a thing. Both my in-laws have Covid. Yes, I may crack a joke about them every now and then, but they are okay, and I actually like my mother-in-law. I hope they don't get severe symptoms.
