After Andromeda and Anthem all I'm hoping is that Bioware make the next Dragon Age an all round solid game. No reason they can't do both, though. Supergirl's as good as it's ever been after adding Nicole Maines to the cast. It's a question of priorities. For example I would rather resources have been spent implementing an actual city in Inquisition, or an actual solid loot system in Anthem. I am hoping they get the fundamentals in order, I'm no longer hoping for neat gimmicks and other things right now.

@ githcheater: Heh. Yeah. in this particular case Bio shouldn't go the DAI route and prioritize displaying character over attractiveness. (That was my takeaway from Matt Rhodes' discussion of Cassandra's DAI appearance.)
@ river82.: I don't see the issue. A trans NPC's costs are the same as any other NPC. Making one an LI doesn't add additional costs that an additional cis LI wouldn't have. I suppose it depends on how few LIs the game has.

Sure. But they're going to do them anyway.
I get what you're saying; doing one LI that will piss off / squick out a bunch of players isn't a highly-efficient use of the LI resources. But this is an area of design where I'm not convinced efficiency is all that useful. Trying to play to the crowd just gets you bland content that doesn't really interest anyone.
Edit: but really, I'm more invested in watching people freak out than in the objective merits of such content.

I could see them having a trans LI in DA4. I wouldn't be surprised if it's Maevaris.
That said, to minimize backlash I could see her being one of the "extra" slots like Cullen and Solas were instead of part of the 2/2/2 group.

Bonus points if they make a transwoman one of the core options for straight male PCs. The internet would explode, and I'd forever respect the folks at Bioware for the sheer brass bollocks on display. What Rhodes' discussion are you referencing? I'd like to take a look at it, if possible.

Hey! New to this thread, so don't know if this has been said but Patrick Weekes tweeted back in 2017, that a Female Qunari 'would be a biggie in a hypothetical new game' because this is a new character style that they haven't down before in previous games. We should expect new character types for the next game, so basically, not your typical Templar warriors and bog-standard elven mages.

It's Jackdaw! I love watching/listening to your vids
and I'm all for new exciting romance options I'll likely just go in semi-blind being all "eh, this one looks interesting"...then either get surprised by how well I like them or how much I don't
looking at you Sebastian and Fenris...Seb being a bit of the latter and Fenris being a bit of the former
Though to be fair, people are always going to harp on something they don't like, that's human nature I guess like...people hated how every romance option (except Sebastian) in DA2 was "player sexual" people harped on characters suddenly and "magically" changing sexuality (like Kaidan and Anders) people being "ninja-manced" by Leliana... the list goes on

not your typical Templar warriors and bog-standard elven mages. Well, the first type (what I would call the "distrusts/hates magic warrior" type) has been affecting any warrior since the DA2, romanceable or not, as in case of Aveline. Where did we got bog-standard elven mage s? Solas is hardly bog-standard ( ) and the only other example is Merrill, plus potentially the non-romanceable Velanna, but who cares about her?

LadyofNemesis Angelina, on occasion, goes on some extreme diets, for whatever self conscious reasons. She looked great in Maleficent. The first one. Haven't seen the second one. I love the first one, and I've seen a few parts of the second... love the new fey they showcased in that one (some have parrot colored wings ) not really sure what to think of the over all storyline though (kinda feels like she had a relapse in her "I hate everyone" personality that she outgrew at the end of the first one) though my favorite character in the first one aside from Maleficent was Diaval Diaval: ...*glaring at Maleficent* Maleficent: what? Diaval: you turned me into a dog! Maleficent: it was a wolf Diaval: same damned thing Maleficent: *sighs* bet he had an awesome time as a dragon though
also on the dieting thing, some sources claim she might be having some form of anorexia (not sure if it's true though, can't be to careful with things you read)

It's this a multi account or something? I think there was a guy here (although more hilarious/funny TBH) that from time to time posted similar things and almost all had a good laugh and even some users engaged in "heated" conversations about it.
Can't remember the name of the user unfortunately.

I'm so uninspired by the options we think we have a chance at.
I want completely new people to romance and be dramatic about. By the time they would make Harding "exciting" to me, she'd be a totally different person than we'd thought she was in DAI.

By the time they would make Harding "exciting" to me, she'd be a totally different person than we'd thought she was in DAI. I'm sure the vast majority of them will be entirely new. Returning characters, comic characters, book characters... I think it's largely wishful thinking. And I say that as someone who'd give my left tit for a bisexual Calpernia romance. In DAI the only returning characters who were LIs were Cassandra and Cullen, and Cullen wasn't even originally slated to be one. Sera, Josephine, Iron Bull, Dorian, Blackwall, Solas... even the "flirtationship" with Harding... all new characters no one pinged for DAI. So try not to fret too much. There'll definitely be all kinds of new people.

Agreed. There certainly will be at least some completely new characters, so we shouldn't worry about that too much. Although having an LI slot taken up by someone you're sure you won't like isn't great, yeah. Then again, I didn't think the Iron Bull was going to work for me, but he did. (And the QunBull path still stings, years later.) Finally tracked down the discussion of Cassandra's DAI design. Took a while because I was wrong about who did it; Matt Rhodes worked on Cassandra originally, but Casper Konefal handled the DAI redesign. If design intent interests anyone, here it is.

Maybe the looks aren't there to make your pants uncomfortable. Just an idea

Well, OP, if you are thinking of those semi-naked healthy heroines that one finds in mobile game... I seriously doubt Bio will intro those to the game.
DA:I has too many characters. I hope the story writers come to their senses and offer fewer but better developed characters with a focus on the main plot about the war/problems in Tevinter.
To this add.. protagonist = male and female option two female companions. two male companions .
Of the three females, surely one will be to your liking.

But I meant more in the grand scale of things, we should expect deeper, never before seen companions for the next game, like a female dwarf, Qunari Mage, new races, different classes, etc!

I agree for DA 4 i would prefer if they focus on 9? possible companions and the major NPCs like faction leaders like Dorian or Archon Radonis. Maybe they should also could cut the trainers and let the companions like in Origins teach the DA 4 Hero.
And character types i think its time to bring the female elven / dalish warrior back. Maybe Ariane could be a rolemodel but to be honest without Finn (her lover?) she is quite boring.
