I just read that story yesterdey (got the ebook recently). Very creepy and it was interesting because the only surviving Warden, Ramesh, mentioned in the end there were eleven other places like this one according to what the murals in the cave showed. It would be nice to see some of those locations in DA4. Maybe the spiderhand is from such a place...

It took me six times watching thetrailer before I actually saw the handsy spider.. in the trailer. I was beginning to think some of ya'all were breaking out the photoshop. And that 'giant centipede' picture actually gives me some serious ME 3 vibes.

I was actively trying to figure out how such a battle would look like. So me and hubs went to look at Andromeda Architect battles and the Biggest that Anthem had to offer. I think it'd be more like the architect. Except obviously we're going to be able to fly, considering metal wings on TN cover and pink butterfly magic wings on the centipede pic.

Honestly, I don't have a problem with it. Being able to transform into different animals and even winged animals has been a thing since the beginning of the series. Being able to grow wings and acheive flight is not that far-fetched at this point.
I am highly in favour of DA adding any batshit crazy thing it wants, with little or even no justification, if it adds fun to the game.

Another interesting notion... could Davrin be depicted on the TN cover? I did wonder about this myself. The two male Wardens that feature in the stories are never explicitly described so far as I can recall. You are just left to imagine what they look like. That guy on the cover, though, does suit the attitude of the VA. It also occurred to me that really none of the people we see on the cover seem to feature in the stories: dual wielding Dalish with light vallaslin, lady archer with red hair. At a stretch the leaping Qunari could be Saarbrak from Three Trees to Midnight but that's about it. If I remember right, Ramesh had daggers and the other dude from "Hunger" was an archer, so I also though about the Sword'n'Board guy being Davrin. Wasn't the two-handed axe (which turns into a sword and back again depending on page) Bastaar(d)'s weapon? Maybe the spiderhand is from such a place... I wonder if our hand-y spider is a product of that as well... I wouldn't be surprised if Nugs come from that place as well.... etpacks you say...? Han: "Boba Fett? Where?" Han: *rams rod into jetpack* Boba: "Aiahahahahahah!* Sarlacc "GULP!"

I'm probably being dense, but please can you explain why everyone is calling this a Qunari Giant. I can't see the head and don't feel the armour is conclusively Qunari, so am I missing something? I'm guessing that speculation is based on the reddish ropework(?) that ties the giant's breastplate to their torso bearing similarities with Qunari armor and people also remembering Saarath, the gigantic Qunari mage and the last boss fight from the Trespasser dlc. If the small knob at the top is indeed their helmeted or masked head, that Qunari has been seriously imbibing lyrium. I originally thought the giant in the picture was an ogre or an alpha ogre, since the spiky shield they're holding reminded me of the darkspawn alpha shield with its evenly spaced spikes. Also both the old and the re-designed versions of ogres have spiky armors. To muddy the waters further, darkspawn armor, too, is fastened with some kind of cords, maybe leather, and both Saarath's armor and the new ogre armor design feature some sort of loincloth(?) whose topmost strip of cloth comes up to its wearer's knees.

I just got a mental picture of shapeshifting into a bird to raise the tac cam for easier/faster scouting. Or even doing it mid-combat to locate other pockets of enemies and possibly involve them in the battle. We sometimes run into enemies who are fighting each other, what if we could engineer those situations instead of just running into prearranged ones? (to be clear, I doubt something that complex would be in DA4, but it’s fun to imagine)

... I don't think "optimistic" means what you think it means. It sounds like I hit a fanboy nerve. If you're going to disagree. Fine disagree. But putting my education into question makes me wonder about your education. Your first line was that you felt optimistic and then the entire rest of the post was how badly Bioware was going to mess things up and everything would suck. I think you mistyped the first sentence, perhaps?

I completly forgot about that. Hell that would be an interesting twist on the AC gameplay loop. Instead of having a pet eagle named Ikaros you ARE a pet eagle named Ikaros.

By sampling of my lover’s berries so I can shit them out several miles away, you mean? Or were you thinking more along the lines of slipping my thin beak into the folds of their bark, so that a thread of borer beetles and stinging ants trickles into my waiting mouth? Either way, I can see the appeal.

The main thing I gathered form this is the basically haven't started making it yet. How long until Ea drops the hammer and says dude we've given you 4 years and you have nothing to show for it, get it done in 18 months.

Since mages can levitate an entire aqueduct and turn into birds I'd say flight is perfectly possible, just not common since mages aren't common and not all of them are powerful. It's teleportation the circle believes is impossible not magical flight (though we know eluvians get around that w/ the crossroads interdimensional space).
But we're probably gonna see a lot more casual magic in Tevinter, since mages aren't locked away in circles.

You're misconstruing my post.
Yes, my post points out the long list of issues that do not bode well for DA4. While these issues are presented and I DO have very little confidence that DA4 will be good, there is at least a small amount of hope that it may be as good as Origins or better. Even a small amount of hope is enough to provide optimism.
