The Red Lyrium Idol he has must tie this all together... somehow. Using the Blight to weaken the Veil on a large scale? Or the more it spreads, the more powerful the idol (the focus) becomes?
Forgive me for interrupting with a spoiler but I'm going to say openly anyway. Didn't the Mortalitassi say that she got the impression to the group who were using the magic of the idol that it was interfering with his own work? So possibly he didn't need the idol to complete his ritual but to prevent others from stopping it. I really don't think he would use the idol to "fix" the world.
He also said: "You meddle past your understanding, foolish mortal mages, and in doing so, you threaten all creation.
Plus also possibly has a use for it in his plans against the other Evanuris. Now if he is planning on fixing the world and then sacrificing himself to counter the Evanuris, he might be willing to resort to the power of the idol, because he knows it will kill him anyway and so no longer has to fear its corrupting influence.
Weakening the Veil is a possibility, I'd also throw in the possibility that the plan might be to use it to neutralise the Evanuris when the Veil does come down. It required a 'trick' the first time, right? So maybe he couldn't brute force them without 'juicing' his own power.
This is more likely, He'd risk using the idol if it took out the other gods once and for all, probably at the sacrifice of himself. I'm also convinced he wanted to recover it so other people couldn't use it against him.
Well, could they surely qualify as "horribly overrated"?
I'd go with that. Also they couldn't stop the Qunari the first time; it took Yavana and her dragons to do that. Hence them wetting themselves at the prospect of Qunari having another go.
Thedas lack volcanoes despite having volcanic geological ground compositions. But it's kinda hollow earth so...
Tevinter legend says that Dumat destroyed Barindur but Solas' information seemed to suggest a volcanic eruption, although there is no reason why the first couldn't have caused the second. Anyway I think Barindur was somewhere in the Silent Plains, near Solas may be? So dig down and who knows what you might find.
And in some scenarios the leader’s position is only secure because of their connection to the Inquisition so they wouldn’t want to risk that out of self-interest if nothing else.
This was before it was cut down in size or disbanded. That has created a big problem in itself for those who forced this to happen. Why get rid of the Inquisition if the world is still at risk? Could it be because you were more interested in getting rid of a threat to your own power and status than protecting the people?
Anyway, the epilogue screen definitely says "those who believed the Inquisitor", which suggests that there were those who did not or dismissed it as the raving of someone desperately clinging onto power. The way Teagan focusses on the damage that Solas may have caused to relations with the Qunari, rather than the threat of Solas himself, suggests to me that he at least is in the dark about him or is in a state of denial.
It is entirely possible that the only people that are really in the know are the Inner Circle of companions and advisors, which would include whoever is Divine and that even if they tried alerting the other members of the Exalted Council to the danger they were sceptical to say the least and probably did suggest that the Inquisitor was merely trying to cling on to power.

Hey, the only reason I’m poking all these fleshy bits is so they’ll tell the brain to make the happy chemicals. In the Fade I can poke the brain directly. Seems like an upgrade. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Hey I'm not knocking it. Just pointing this out to people who have a fixation on poking the fleshy bits.

Lyrium, Deep Roads, Darkspawns and Titans with oceans and sky inside of them.
Depends. I guess it depends on the spirit. You could probably only have Fade sex, like Tyrrda BrightAxe.

I haven't read that story since it was released, but if the idol was interfering, shouldn't it had interfered before? It is ancient. Or was being deep in the Deep Road enough to block the interference?
Also, it looks very much like Mythal/Solas intertwined, made of red lyrium and found in a Thaig where they clearly worshiped dragons with all those statues. It looks like Mythal/Solas had a big cult down there. A cult who made a red lyrium idol that cause people to go crazy...
Then you add that someone gave Bertrand the location of the Primeval Thaig. I always felt that someone wanted the idol out of that Thaig. It's part of a plan. And you're kinda left with Mythal/Flemeth or Solas as the planner...unless there is a 3rd party we haven't encountered yet.
And you're kinda left with Mythal/Flemeth or Solas as the planner...unless there is a 3rd party we haven't encountered yet.
The third person in the idol may be? There are definitely three figures there. Also the reason it was interfering was because the people were actually using it in a blood magic ritual that was designed to utilise spirits of the Fade and thus drew his attention. If the idol was just locked in its box, inside Meredith or neutralised by magic in some other way, then it is likely that would be okay.

So it was more the ritual than the idol that was causing the interference. Also, doesn't this suggest Solas didn't know the idol was out and about? If so, he didn't listen that much to Varric's stories... I'll have to re-read the story tonight I think.
It could be the third person depicted on the idol. Flemeth has been hiding from someone powerful and I don't think it was Morrigan. Also, looking at the idol image again to see this 3rd "person". There is a tentacle there too. I think I always associated it to some "rose thorns" in-game, but looking at this, it looks like a broodmother's tentacle.

Well, with hands it might be easier for them to get in, but now they can also get out without our help, right?
If three humans are in the room, there will be six opinions.

DA4 Protagonist: hey, random question. Just, you know, idle curiosity. But... uh... what do fearlings look like to you?
Warden: Spiders.
Hawke: Spiders.
Inquisitor: Spiders. Why, what do you see?
DA4 Protagonist: Right, yep, same for me. Spiders, haha. Cool. We’re all afraid of completely normal spiders.

Oh he knows but for some reason he left recovering it to agents and they messed up, repeatedly. You would think if it was that important he wouldn't have entrusted it to anyone else. As it is, it would seem he hasn't entrusted anyone else with the reason he wants it, so probably even his agents are in the dark, just think it is going to restore elven glory in some way.
I've said that before too. I was surprised that it is meant to be the main figure consoling one of the others. They all look in dire straights to me, either trying to escape being sucked into whatever belongs to that tentacle or being "birthed" from it. It is a very disturbing object. So it is hardly surprising that close proximity to it sends most people crazy.
Flemeth has been hiding from someone powerful and I don't think it was Morrigan
Yes, I thought that when I played DA2 again recently. Why did she need to be smuggled out of Ferelden? Couldn't she simply have flown? It seems to me that she must have deliberately hung around her shack, hoping Morrigan would set someone to kill her, because she needed to appear dead in Ferelden and then be resurrected on Sundermount, so someone couldn't track her progress. I'd have thought that person was Solas considering he visited her shack on awakening but then she was waiting for him at the end of DAI.
Except, perhaps she deliberately didn't want him to find her until she was ready. That would be after someone had drunk from the Well of Sorrows, or was she originally waiting until he had unlocked the orb? Did she think he would die? Or did she think he would get someone else to do it? Was she observing what he did as some sort of test?
Flemeth admits that she likes to nudge people along the direction she wishes them to take but clearly in such a way that they think they are acting for themselves. If she hadn't helped Hawke to get to Kirkwall, there are several things that may not have happened, apart from resurrecting her. Without Hawke's blood Corypheus could not have been freed, because I'm pretty sure those wards were not failing before we got there. Without Hawke going into the Deep Roads, the idol could have remained hidden for many more years. If the idol hadn't been found then we would never have known about red lyrium.
If the idol was of Mythal, did she know about it and why would she want it found? How did Solas know of its significance? Clearly it does have something to do with them both. Was it the weapon that Merrill says Fen'Harel used to entice the gods into his trap, claiming he had hidden it there when in actual fact it was down in the Deep Roads? If so, they thought it was the ultimate weapon that would win the war. So perhaps it is.

because it's key somehow to Solas' plans to bring down the Veil, which he admits will release the false gods probably ("I had plans"), and she wants them released because she finally wants the vengeance for her murder at their hands which she's been after all this time

Flemeth had plan(s) and I'm pretty sure Solas was always a part of them. Which means I don't think DAI post game scene put an end to her plan(s) at all. She probably knew what he would attempt so she had to present herself when it was fine for her to be "drained".

I like to think that Solas only woke up when he did because the idol had surfaced but that doesn't fit the timeline of when he says he awoke, unless he took a very long time to come out of Uthenera, and also the fact that Felassan was working on his behalf in Orlais some 20 years before Solas emerged. What was he doing all that time? Also, if Solas needed the idol to bring down the Veil, then why not secure it before handing over his orb to someone else to open?

(seriously, did anyone actually LIKE NPC-Hawke in DAI?)
He actually turned out almost exactly as I imagined he would after DA2's ending, all grouchy and at the end of his rope, in hiding, and hating blood mages. I guess the portrayal was bound to fit someone's Hawke.
