If this game gets overall positive user reviews I will lose all hope in the future of mankind.
If it gets positive reviews from sources I trust, I'll eat a hat, buy and play the game immediately. It won't of course. It will be ruthlessly mocked and ridiculed. They aren't Bethesda coming into Starfield with mostly good faith. They aren't CDProjekt Red coming into Cyberpunk after the genre redefining Witcher 3. They are BioWare coming off two high profile failures and now tangible bad faith due to their handling of the review codes. Every single thing they did leading up to this game's release was a mistake. And now they've poisoned the well and have likely made new enemies with this marketing cycle alone. It has to be by design at this point. Who is this stupid?
No wonder returning chars were kept hidden. We now have cartoon caricatures of their former selves. Mind, Varric & Harding remain the same but everyone else?... a deliberate decision, approved by Busche, imo, to change their looks. The new art style does not prevent the artists from recreating DAI chars as proven by V & H. Nope... deliberate. Absolutely no reason that I can think of for going in this direction.
Take our fav female pirate from DA2. She went from a white & skinny to a very dark buxom char who in DA4 is back to white, skinny with a mastectomy. Dorian is laughable with handlebars and goatee. Morrigan, while her looks is OK does not look like Morrigan at all and even she has her bust downsized...
Of course, for newbies, all of this is irrelevant.

Review codes assignment handling, looking back, was a deliberate action to prevent negative reviews about the looks of returning DAO/DA2/DAI chars, imo. It makes sense to limit the flood of expected negative criticisms from content creators.
Once again.... management failures.

The Taash vs Emmrich confrontation somehow got worse.
I just noticed the prologue to it. Calling Emmrich a skullf**ker. Apparently Taash is tonally closer to Ogrhen off all people. Ogrhen - the most beloved character in Origins /s
Also, the did you know DA4 is a return to form? Guess what! DA4 is a return to form!
What's the target audience for Veilguard? A serious question. They say this game is rated M, and yet here we have them apparently teaching adults that we all need to play nice.
I'm pretty shocked about the vulgar necrophilia comment. The outfit someone relayed for a returning character too. Both seem rather lowbrow, especially when compared to inquisition which poked fun at skimpy 'armour.'
Free me now, I'm not answering questions, blah blah blah. Don't you know who I am?

In Mattyplays review he showed some clips to illustrate how the dialogue is, and it's really awful fanfiction levels like a bad CW drama or something
Oh, yes. Andor Vex, was his name. The Force swirled around him like a hurricane, that's how great his destiny was. Well, it turned out that poor Andor believed a wee bit too much in the infallibility of that destiny. That overconfidence turned out to be his downfall....

She was never white, but she looks ridiculous in DAV. That outfit is a disgrace and quite frankly sexist. I didn't like her outfit in DA2 and always gave her pants, but now, she basically wears a bikini. And it is a shame, that you can't really import a world stat with all those returning characters. Isabela was my go to romance as Hawke and my Hawkes always leave the Fade,so if they now decide, Hawke is dead and Isabela is trying to sleep with Rook, I would be really cross.

There is definitely a crowd for this game if it's what people say it is, a game seemingly written with the goal of "be nice and don't offend anyone never" as its highest goal. I'm just not sure how big this crowd is, but I did see many people that for example were too offended by being called "knife ears" in DAO or that the broodmother was so horrible to them they didn't want to play or skipped that part as fast they could etc...

IGN on the other hand gave it a 9/10 and called it a "triumph" (though who trusts IGN these days). The scores are all over the place.
Well it makes the seal-clappers in that other thread feel happily validated...though that's the same crowd that gives MEA a 9/10. On gaming website scores I automatically subtract 1 or 2 from the score since they don't want to lose access...their job...but of course that's why few put much stock in what they say. I had been predicting the user score being around 6.5 prior to yesterday, but now I'm wondering if that was too optimistic from what I've heard and seen. Well there's always Exodus to look forward to...as well as the various CDPR games in the works.

Don't necessarily go by associated media. This was how Isabella appeared in Origins:
You can see she is meant to be dusky, probably more Mediterranean than anything else. This is her in DA2, where she is a shade darker but still largely consistent with what she was before. Possibly a little more Middle Eastern. The latest iteration is more like the former but dusky southern European rather than northern pale skinned. (I hate using the terminology "white" and "black" because neither is accurate whether describing people in game or in real life). The costume on the DATV Isabella is a joke though and she has lost several bra sizes as well. Meanwhile I think her face just looked goofy, partly because she hasn't aged at all.

Boring companions with no source of conflict. Just like MEA your stuck with your companions...at least we had Drack and Cora which were decent enough. No RP agency...very little difference between dialogue options...heavily focused on cliche Marvel quips. Combat system is deep but with little enemy variability and rinse and repeat engagements. Main story is a "slog" through the first 2 acts...some 50 hours if you include companion quests. Seemingly universal agreement that the last 5 hours of the story has a satisfying payoff.
So, yep, they managed to turn me off to such an extent I'll be waiting for a significant price drop...killing off any residual hype I might have had yet for the story. What a disappointment.

Isn't Isabela almost 50 by the time the Veilguard is happening? I always imagined she was in her early 30's in DA2 and by now it's been like 15years since the beginning of DA2? Do correct me if I'm wrong on the timeline, been a while since I checked.

And yet Dorian looked like he aged like milk. It's a weird world in modern Bioware that women don't age while men do, look at Varric. And I think we should lump Morrigan together with Isabela too because she also hasn't aged.

Never forget people...this is where we started...smh
I miss that DA, dead serious with the occasional comic relief here and there
And yet, we keep getting told that basically no one wants "dark fantasy" and we all need to let go of Origins....yet the same people can't let go of Mass Effect because it's just like Andromeda (yes, these are comments I've read on this very board).

Not really feeling what I've seen on the writing and especially the companions but I wasn't really expecting much, maybe they'll slot ahead of Team Andromeda as a whole, but I can't see any individual breaking into a top 10 or even 20 BioWare companion list.
Though I will say, even though the scene was shown as an example of "cringe" dialogue, I found myself enjoying the cuteness of Harding.
Well, that at least gives me some hope then. I was concerned if they gave Harding the idiot ball entirely as well. I know she'll have it for a little, just because that's how all the conversations with other party members seem to be, but at least she seems to be mostly an adult as well in the group of..."teenagers" I'll call them, for lack of a better word.

She is. She's in her early 50s and Hawke is in his late 40s.
