So, a common criticism I'm seeing is that the game is lacking edge and is too fluffy and cuddly, and since the writing team for this game was largely the same as in DA:I, with some folks working on DA:O way back when, I wonder to what extent this might be down to Weekes' leadership. Because Weekes is the guy who wrote this, admittedly many years ago, but I see little reason to think his storytelling philosophy has changed. Gaider, by contrast, is the guy who liked to brag of his love of the fandom's tears. Having read their Dragon Age stuff and non-Dragon Age stuff, Weekes is, by my estimation, a pretty weak writer. Better than John Epler, certainly, but not *good.* Perhaps they can, under some other person’s direction, produce some gems. I have no doubt that was how you got Mordin and the ME3 questline that everyone loves. But when left to make their own decisions, Weekes always makes the wrong ones, guided by ideology and a desire to make goofy pop culture references rather than what makes sense for the narrative.

Right, I accidentally misgendered them and didn't realize until I read your post. Was planning on a workout anyway For a game that feels more or less like Dragon Age: Origins and the original Mass Effect, I'm holding out hope for Exodus. Current Bioware leadership don't seem interested in returning to that style, which is of course their prerogative.

Exodus better be good. It looks awesome but I really hope I won't be disappointed Yeah better not get too hyped. It does sound like a cool setting and ge at dark vibe and I've purchased the novel (haven't started reading yet). But how the game plays could be really unappealing. Also we don't know if former BioWare means better than who's currently still at BioWare. I'm not getting my hopes up but I'll definitely follow this and hope it turns out well.

The writers needed another type of bad guys for the player to fight. That's the only explanation When the game was first announced i assumed we'd have some sort of TW3 situation. Trying to stop Solas whilst navigating a war zone between Tevinter and the Qunari. Yup, that's exactly what I thought. With maybe some leftover Venatori and Red Templar diehards faffing about with Red Lyrium and working for the Evanuris/Other Magisters in the shadows. I expected a Shadow War involving the Ben-Hassrath, Siccari, Lucerni, Lords of Fortune/Felicisma Armada, Executors, Mortalitasi, Agents of Fen'harel, Crows, and yes the Inquisition in whatever form it took. I thought Rook was a codename like Charter, heck I thought we'd be working for Charter with our 'Origin' being how we came to the (Potentially 'Secret') Inquisition's attention.

Not so much with the faction clothing Sorry to hear about your dog and I hear you about the clothing. Look at this: He goes from being shaped like a man to having the hip bone of a female with this outfit. This is where you'll find your curves guys...

I'm sorry to say, but character creator is extremely disappointing. It's not the worst I've seen, but all the build up is completely unjustified. Body types feel like a scam Tell me about it. So many sliders do barely anything when going from -100% to +100%. In order for my guy to have the hips of a male, I had to dial down the waist slider to -100%. The ugly androgynous look is truly baked into the game.

Report from the trenches: - Lowered graphics settings some more to avoid burning out my graphic card (got to upgrade my gear as well as my bandwidth); - Figured out how to speed through fights ... Really not feeling it, but at least now I can progress from exposition dump A to 'feel good' session B; - Made it to the Lighthouse. The set designs and environments are quite good so far. Frankly, the only element that vaguely reminds me of DA; - The score is serviceable - nothing memorable like the opening notes of Origins, Hawke's theme in DA2 or the uplifting or haunting tracks of Inquisition; - Neve acts like an adult - as opposed to Harding... - Business-like is how I'd describe her voice acting - which can come across as flat and monotone - but vastly preferable to cloyingly "sweet" & "nice" (this spoiler business is irritating) ----- Oh, and here's Damian: Damn, you've probably made the best looking Rook I've seen yet.

This is the actual first time in which a Bioware game just isn't for me (I pretend Anthem doesn't exist, it is MP after all). I'm seeing MEA as a way more attractive game than this one, flaws and all. I'm sorry but I just prefer the ME aesthetics in which women are goddesses and men are gigachads.

Regarding some early game activities: Made it to the village. The mood was actually approaching something of Dragon Age. And then they started talking. People have pointed it out before but it bears repeating: the comments made by the companions completely kills the tension in the scene. Just rips you right out. Peebee wasn't her usual quirky self for the most part and that was a welcome addition. We get back to the veil jumper camp. Stand around and make heroic speeches while the camera continues to weirdly zoom in on Rook's face for no apparent reason. It was nice to see Morrigan again, but something felt off about her character. Could it have anything to do with the decision to disregard the last three games? Surely not. Made it to the completely unfamiliar and unknown ritual site. Rook is making another damned Marvel team speech. Except those were done much better. This writing is distractingly terrible across the board. I have no idea who pushed this out the door in the state that it was in and thought it acceptable. They've castrated the blight and what it means, but we all know that. Combat continues to be serviceable, mediocre and forgettable. Sadly, it's the absolute best part of this game. It hurt to type that.

Body types feel like a scam I have NO IDEA why they hyped it up so much. Sure, compared to some previous Bioware games the CC was good, but compared to the gaming industry as a whole it's pretty average.

Sure, compared to some previous Bioware games the CC was good, but compared to the gaming industry as a whole it's pretty average. Well there is the fact that the game director worked on The Sims. So they likely wanted to play to what little strengths they had.

The console sales are the missing piece in the puzzle. Very curious about those. And I'm seeing an article going around claiming that BioWare will not be releasing DLC for this title. A title whose games historically always released DLC. Not just one or two. Typically anywhere from two to five. That's not good.

I also heard many people are getting the game through EA Pro Pass which as I understand is way cheaper than steam.

I'm pissed that they're making me say this, but Andromeda is the better title by a country mile. Yes, Ryder is every bit as nice and agreeable as Rook, but Ryder has some moments when he can say and do some straight up renegade shit. These moments are few and far in between, but they are there. The companions are also better and at least three of them are adults. The tone is light, but not nearly as Disney as Veilguard has been. The combat is arguably the best in the franchise(I'm a mecoop guy so I'm biased here). The only really distinguishing factor in Veilguard's favor is that the end is supposedly very good.
