I honestly thought that the recent rumours spreading about the panic over Baldur's Gate 3 at Bioware were silly, but apparently they were true after all. Worth pointing out that this latest situation was developing back in the spring, well before the speculation over BG3. Sources have confirmed now that we should have had the game in September 2023, which means that marketing should have begun in the Spring and the game reported as a release this financial year in the EA report. The fact that neither happened shows the decision to delay until 2024 at the earliest must have been made then. Whether the delay was the reason for the redundancies or vice versa, it accounts for why there has been a complete silence out of the studio about Dreadwolf since Mark Darrah returned to help get them back on track.

Bg3 has a beyond impressive is 50/50 game of year and is surpassing everyone’s expectations. It’s everything dragon age should be except the option for dai fast combat There’s isn’t a single thing dai or any of the dragon age titles does better. The problem is that they should be better based on the size of the studio. I’ve only played Bg3 for 6-8 hours and it truly feels like the real successor to origins Dragon Age origins has a better story and characters, Act 1 of BG3 is comparable, acts 2 and 3 really go down hill imo. BG3 handled turn based combat extremely well but they kind of go off the rails with items as the game progresses, you almost actively had to make bad itemization choices not to break the game.
Personally I'd love a return to turn based on dread wolf, but I don't think that is in the cards. And at this point in their development switching to it would likely be a bad idea.

Dread wolf has not even come out and yet I think it will finish a distant second to the new baldness gate. Baldurs gate appears to be doing almost everything dao did but better in a shorter amount of time I'm not going to say its going to be GOTY or something as there are a lot of great games this year and even in the RPG genre there are multiple ways to make a great one. But it kind of feels like they are doing bioware better than bioware, admittedly with quite a bit more edge lord stuff. I agree that DAD doesn't feel like it's gonna be alright. But i disagree about Larian. Yes they doing some things that are in DAO. But for me their are so many things that are not for me. Most of the Companions and the story are not my style. For gameplay i better play Solasta or Pathfinder. And for the IU i need a helping tool because everything is confusing. So i don't want DAD to go that way. I would just be happy if it came out as a game that I can play and that I enjoy. but I am not hopeful that it will happen.
They are not my style as well but there are well developed characters with tons of deep conversation options for a game. I don't particularly like the characters and the story was only good in act one and even then its not my favorite story but at least I think it had good choices, pacing etc. But turn based, developed story, choices and consequences, that is what bioware used to be all about. I pretty much hated all the characters in DAI but I'm not going to say they are objectively bad or something, just not my style.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if auto-combat like in Origins is easier to create and bug fix compared to the combat of Inquisition?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if auto-combat like in Origins is easier to create and bug fix compared to the combat of Inquisition? Simple answer, Yes. For explanation, check out Mark Darrah's You Tube video on the development of Baldur's Gate 2 and why it was easier to develop as a direct sequel of Baldur's Gate because they were using the same engine and game play. I gave a summary on another thread but essentially the data sequences on that engine ran into hundreds/thousands, which was also true when working on DAO, whilst on Frostbite they run into millions. Obviously, that makes creating combat sequences and locating and fixing bugs far more tricky and time consuming.

I wonder if there is a market for smaller Dragon Age stories like the tale Hawke but using origins combat system? Could it even be sustainable?

Does there need to be a dedicated thread for this? Might as well be the entire forum.

Does there need to be a dedicated thread for this? YES. Every prison needs a confinement wing for their lunatics.
But for real, if not for this thread, there would be thread after thread of people saying how much Dreadwolf is going to bomb and how little faith they have in BioWare and that would get annoying for everyone.

Calling at least two delays and a launch at the end of 2023 😜 Potentially some exec might have the bright idea for even 2024 to celebrate 10 years since DAI. But let's be optimistic. It will be a 10 year DAI DLC Edition with skins/weapons at extra cost.

The Skepticism/Hype trains for releases are kinda a thing Sofa does and it's like the two threads battle it out to see who's more accurate and whether there's more skepticism than hype for the game. There is a Hype thread for Dreadwolf btw, it's just lost on the second page ( bsn.boards.net/thread/18445/dragon-age-dreadwolf-hype-train ). Should tell you everything you need to know about people's faith atm *shrugs* It did help segregate people and keep the myriad hype/skepticism threads limited but I viewed it anyway as a sort of game. IIRC before Andromeda the hype thread was overwhelmingly more active. Before Anthem the hype thread was also more active I believe.

Remember the thread for Inquisition and how hyped up everyone was? There must have have been a dozen pages on the Crestwood demo alone. But the hype thread here hasn’t been updated in seven months, seven months for a beloved franchise that’s supposedly releasing soonish. When diehard fans can’t even maintain the hype train, you know the game is going to flop.

But that nobody has the enthusiasm to maintain the hype is telling, firstly it takes energy to maintain hype and *TEN YEARS LATER* and secondly I don't think many people at all feel the hype for Dreadwolf right now.

Don't fall into the echo chamber around here. Granted its been awhile so maybe the most recent spat of news has finally smothered it but I still see a lot of warm feelings for Dragon Age and Dreadwolf online and a lot of 'please release the game' kind of comments on BioWare's FB page whenever they do something relating to Dragon Age at all. Of course it is going to be telling when we get the next bit of news, hopefully around the Game Awards, and when major marketing ticks up if the activity levels around here/ online starts picking up and whether or not its more hype or more bitter annoyed.

And of course my reason for being hyped also got to me about one day before the news of the lawsuits hit which did take the wind out of my sails a little.

If not for BG3 and negative posts, it would otherwise be mostly crickets on BSN. No matter the commentary, at least DAD is still being discussed. Bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.

If people are angry at a game it means they still care about the franchise. If people still take the time to post negatively, it means they're still emotionally invested in the game. Apathy is the real killer.

Just remember every team is one draft from drafting their next elite class Quarterback in the 6th round which will turn their franchise around for decades to come.
