This is who wrote Sten, Varric and the Chant btw. She also continued to work on Varric, until her firing. Lucanis will be the last companion she wrote for DA. Taash and Solas are written by Weekes, while I think Bellara is written by Epler.

I’m a little surprised to see Mary cheerfully participating in Veilguard discourse, considering how they canned her ass. I think Bellara is written by Epler. Oh, that’s not good. Good cinematic designer, *bad* writer. Go read Half Up Front from Tevinter Nights and tell me otherwise.

This is who wrote Sten, Varric and the Chant btw. I know this is just marketing speech for the social media addicted, romance obsessed fanatics of the fandom that will be writing fanfics and drawing fanart of these characters for years to come but damn is it turning me off. Especially when Lucanis was looking like the only interesting option for me But it really shows what kind of demographic they are targeting at this point.

I don't think he wrote other companions, in any case, given that we have covered Bellara, Lucanis and Taash, with only 4 others between Lukas, Sheryl, and the rest of the team (we don't know if Patrick wrote more companions). I do get being concerned if what she said doesn't appeal you, although the last part is weird to me. Origins had Alistair, after all.

I loved BG3 but was definitely irritated by how so much of it was specifically and obviously calibrated for Tumblr and Twitter fandoms.
It looks like Veilguard is gonna be more of the same, maybe even worse. For fucks' sake I just want stuff written for adults.

Did he write the stories you didn't like? I recall you said you liked and find decent a number of them. There were four stories I absolutely hated in TN: Half Up Front, Murder by Death Mages, Three Trees to Midnight and The Wigmaker Job. Only one of these was written by Epler, and I’ve yet to hear anyone say they really liked Half Up Front; it kind of felt like a bad 50s noir detective story shoved into the Dragon Age setting. Just kind of bleh. Epler also wrote Horror of Hormak, which started out quite well but fell apart by the end with the reveal of “the horror,” a giant pool of goo that can combine monsters using LEGO genetics. Also, he kept mispelling Hormak, which I found irritating.

Isn’t that basically the same fandom that Bioware always used to cater for, even before Tumblr and Twitter were things? I don’t think either Bioware or Larian made their games exclusively for that crowd, but both certainly aware of what a big chunk of their market wants from them.

I'd say that the monster could be more original, but I still liked the implication in regards of Ghilan'nain's true nature, and the Evanuris' personality. Some speculations of the halla's true nature are quite horrific. I do hope, if the figure on the left at the end of the opening is truly Ghilan'nain, that they'd have worked to create more diverse and original creations from her. It is definitely the part of the game I have the least confidence of, in terms of aesthetic at least.

I've seen mostly positive opinion on HoH. Mmm. I admit that I’m somewhat of an outlier on Horror of Hormak, and I suspect that’s because I’m a big horror fan in addition to a Dragon Age fan. I just found the pool of goo that made mix n’ match critters to be kind of silly; I envisioned something so much worse. The giant centipede monster was better, but the fact that it was a gay human centipede pushed it into silly territory. I will say that I liked the implication that the halla were originally created to pull wagons of experimental subjects to Ghilly’s monster factories. Yet another thing the Dalish got hilariously wrong.

As I said, I do hope that they'd have worked together with the art team to bring truly horrific creation in the mix, if Ghilan'nain is a factor in this game. Even finding that the halla hid a twisted backstory behind their creation, which wouldn't make their appearance really horrific, would be quite interesting.

They’re going after the Tumblr demographic who spent their development years writing smutty fanfiction and making death threats over incorrect pairings. They are incredibly toxic and obsessed with sexual preferences hence everyone is playersexual and why the color scheme is bisexual purple. This is also why the series has become less edgy and more cartoony.

The brine pool was a little underwhelming, they shouldn’t have shown the mechanism of the horror but instead kept it vague like Lovecraft would have done.

It feels like some of you might be forgetting how certain characters were written since the first game, and how DA games always had their fair share of goofy, comedic and sometimes cringy and juvenile moments, or characters that leant more towards those concepts. I'd also say fans of every kind of sexual preferences, straights included, had proven that they can be quite toxic, with a big evidence coming from the original BSN. And toxicity isn't limited to romantic plots, especially in regards of Bioware games and their fans. The big issue would if if those moments and sides of characters, and plots, aren't balanced with more serious, and in my opinion dark moments and elements.

Oh that's a bit unfair, I am part of the Tumblr demographic who spent most of my development years reblogging smutty fanart of hot guys, obsessing over sexual preferences, but this still doesn't appeal to me. The purple color has obviously nothing to do with bisexuality, but something in-game that's prevalent, much like Inquisition was very green to represent the importance of the Fade to the game. It's just a shame that it's such a bad color choice for this game franchise.

I read that color purple is associated with magic, royalty and pride. Pride demon is literally dark purple lol. Plus we're going to Tevinter, so it's fitting to use the color that is associated with magic. And Veilguard's purple is different from bisexual purple anyway.

But now, all those horrors and evils have been greatly sanitized but the juvenile stuff has been cranked up to 11. This creates an unstable balance which is why Veilguard is being derided as being cartoony even on its Subreddit. Sir-Pounce-A-Lot is balanced by the gory beheading animation.

This creates an unstable balance which is why Veilguard is being derided as being cartoony even on its Subreddit. I did mention later in the post that the big issue would be not having a balance between the two parts. Based on the trailer, I think concern and criticism for that is fair. Judging an entire game by a trailer isn't always correct, though, especially considering Bioware has released before lackluster trailers. It doesn't justify the reveal trailer, especially considering their current predicament and the fact that the changed in the combat alone would be heavily scrutinized, and by a fair amount of players criticized. I don't think the gameplay trailer, while having its fair share of issues, gives that exact impression, though. Neve and Harding don't appear to be juvenile, and Varric is...Varric. I'm more concerned on the aesthetics of the enemies then the 'human' characters at this point, to be honest. There are indications in terms of environment shown that the game would have a balance with some dark atmospheres and environment, but I definitely get the concerns, because they are the same I have. I just have, I guess, a bit more faith in the writing team, given that they all wrote in the previous games...but I think a good way to showcase the game would be through one of those areas or side plot, if they are in the game as some suggested.

I’ve heard and seen enough from BioWare. I will make a prediction and wash my hands of this game until after release: BioWare will fail to meet their units sold threshold by EA and they will be regulated as a support studio if not canned entirely.
I hope Dragon Age will eventually go back to its Dark Fantasy roots but it is unlikely to happen.

I hope Dragon Age will eventually go back to its Dark Fantasy roots but it is unlikely to happen. I don't see any problem with that. It's your money, and you shouldn't spend it foolishly if you're certain the game will be bad and/or not appeal to you. I'm not nearly as convinced as you that this game won't have any dark fantasy elements, but I have my fair share of concerns. I'd say failing to meet the unit threshold could happen even if the game turns out to be good, because it could very well be a highly unrealistic one. I also think that if it fails financially, Bioware is more likely then not going to be closed. I very much doubt Dragon Age will be worked on again anytime soon in that scenario.

A friend of mine who never played DA watched the first trailer yesterday and her reaction was looks like a cheap mobile game. Godawful music too. Like League of Legends. So even when you're not a biased fan the reaction isn't good. I wish we knew what actual 14 years old who play these hero shooters thought about it. Was it at least cool to them or did marketing pull a complete "how do you do fellow kids?". Anyone here have kids that age? I've been yesterday to a party in a house with two 14- and 16-year-old boys. The host mentioned the trailer at dinner. The boys seemingly did not care at all, especially after it was concluded to be cartoonish and neony hence targeting little kids in their opinion, and went back to Cyberpunk/Elden Ring. They both played Inquisition some time ago and plan to try DAO/DA2 although it seems a bit too old due to outdated graphics for them. The parents are adamant and won't give them BG3 yet although not for long, I think. Mind, these might be not the very typical Californian teens as they tend to stick to more serious stuff, both playing on their own PCs. IMO, based on that, the visuals of the trailer would appeal to PEGI-12 borderline for age or to continental China for overall government restrictions on blood in games.

I loved BG3 but was definitely irritated by how so much of it was specifically and obviously calibrated for Tumblr and Twitter fandoms.
It looks like Veilguard is gonna be more of the same, maybe even worse. For fucks' sake I just want stuff written for adults.
There are too many who can't distinguish between adult and "adult"

If the purple color does have an intent behind it, I think it's more likely that it's a remnant of the original idea that any hidden meaning behind bisexuality. I read that color purple is associated with magic, royalty and pride. Pride demon is literally dark purple lol. Plus we're going to Tevinter, so it's fitting to use the color that is associated with magic. And Veilguard's purple is different from bisexual purple anyway.
Correct. Purple has long been associated with royalty, originally because Tyrian purple dye—made from the secretions of sea snails—was extremely expensive in antiquity. Purple was the color worn by Roman magistrates; it became the imperial color worn by the rulers of the Byzantine Empire and the Holy Roman Empire, and later by Roman Catholic bishops. Similarly in Japan, the color is traditionally associated with the emperor and aristocracy.en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PurpleLooks like some people want Bioware to compromise style choices fitting historical medieval periods to fit with preconceptions based on their own modern politics.
