KoTOR and KoTOR2's combat was rather clunky, even for its time, but I didn't care. I didn't play it for the combat, I played it for the story, dialogue, exploration, and character crafting. I regard them as imperfect classics just like I do ME1, for much the same reasons.
Hopefully KoTOR3 won't compromise on those things when they improve the combat... if it ever comes out.

I loved both Kotor & Kotor 2 but now I'm waiting patiently for SWTOR to finally die off then maybe B-Ware/EA will finally get their **** together and make Kotor 3.Hell heres an idea for you HD Remasters for both Kotor 1&2 I'm sure alot of disgruntled Console fans would buy them I know I would. I've played SWTOR... And I felt kind of sad... KOTOR... It's too good to be wasted in a multiplayer like that...

I've now completed KotOR twice on iPad. It was great to satisfy the KotOR itch that had been nagging me for a good 6 months. Big thanks for tipping me off to its existence. The iPad version isn't quite as perfect as my old Xbox version was, but it's very good, and most importantly, it's accessible. It burns battery like crazy, and swoop racing is extremely challenging. Otherwise, I have no complaints. It's a completely faithful port of the PC version of KotOR. It's awesome to have this classic back in my playable library. Now, I really wish I could follow it up with a run through KotOR 2! Playing KotOR brought back a lot of "Sith Lords" memories.

Yes, the music! I remember how much I liked the Rakata planet music. All of the music in KOTOR is pretty good. Play SW:TOR and you'll hear it all again. BioWare are the masters of re-using assets so all the music, sounds and effects can be found in the MMORPG. Plus lots and lots of new stuff with better graphics of course.

I had the biggest gaming spoiler of all time spoiled for me by Darthipedia.com. When that Total Recall memory manipulation factory opens for business I'm having the KOTOR section wiped and playing it again.

I really like Jolee: one of the only Star Wars characters to not have a stupid Expanded Universe story that makes the character worse. Hear, hear. I know I'll eat some flames for this but I'm delighted teh Disneycron nuked the EU. Of course they'll replace it with a newly hosed up EU, but there was a lot of crap that just didn't need to be canon like ever.

This is a game I've always been conflicted about. I love the story and characters, but the combat. I mean, I always made it known that I think the older BioWare games have pretty clunky combat mechanics but KotoR is the clunkiest of the clunky for me. I can usually put up with it for a little bit by just turning it to the lowest difficulty and spamming power attack to win everything, but that eventually gets too boring to me as well. Took me some time to get used to, but that also happened with DAO. Eventually I adapted and actually it became very fluid to me because I figured out the keyboard shortcuts instead of having to pause the game to click the attack icon, use force powers, switch enemies and such. It got to a point where I rarely paused it because my PC became so strong that I was just bashing my way through everything and everyone. Ah, the freedom to mold your character the way you want to. I also love how the game gave you almost zero tutorial on how play it, instead it's just "figure it out, bitch. bye" LOL. Compared to how everything is so thoroughly explained and so much handholding nowadays. There's some magic in figuring it out the gameplay and adapting. That amazing plot twist though. Damn. It blew my mind. Throughout the game I figured something was off, like people were hiding something from me. The game did that so well in implying a plot twist was on its way, but it was still shocking because no one saw THAT coming. I suspected the PC was like a spy for the sith or something of the like. Also, one thing I noticed when comparing KOTOR and SWTOR is that KOTOR's fighting animations seem more natural and realistic than the stiff movements from TOR. How many years apart are those games?

I have my original pc install box, and I have a copy on GOG. Such a great game.
That big reveal in it...the first time I ever saw it, *sigh*. I wish I could experience that again. It was so good.

Yeah - KOTOR was the game that allowed me to find Bioware and it was awesome. Like you say...that reveal...you can only feel that kind of thing once, but it helps the rest of the game was so good. Didn't mind the slow combat. Very much looking forward to checking out the remake/remaster.

Many of you are probably aware that lucasforums is dying. It may be dead already. And Filefront has shut down as well. For all things KotOR and TSL related, especially as concerns mods, may I recommend www.deadlystream.com.

KotOR2 mods can be accessed through the Steam Workshop, too. I probably should look into if/when this will be available for KotOR, too.

If anyone has not seen it, I'd highly recommend the fan-film " Rescue Mission". It's probably one of the best depictions of Revan I've ever seen, it really captures his duality and philosophy regarding the Force.

Though I was confused when in this supposed to take place in the timeline? Is it after KOTOR because he knew who Mission was. Nice acting too, minus the jedi. The guy playing Revan nailed it.

That was very good. Though I was confused when in this supposed to take place in the timeline? Is it after KOTOR because he knew who Mission was. Nice acting too, minus the jedi. The guy playing Revan nailed it. I think it's meant to be set after KOTOR, but before the events of the novel Revan. We really need a character like Revan in the new film trilogy, who can throw a spanner into the notion of the Force having a clear Light and Dark Side. I prefer the idea that the Force is inherently neutral and only the Jedi and Sith are vain enough to believe that the Force has distinct sides and they are following the "right" path. Sith don't act that way because of a Dark Side making them evil, but because they believe that's how they should act. The appearance of supposed "dark side" corruption in someone could be due to the Sith using the Force (unconsciously or not) to project how they think they should appear once they've gone rogue. It's less to do with a dark side influence and more of the person's own inner corruption, real or imagined. This would explain why the yellow eyes, pale skin and/or veins always vanish upon someone being "redeemed", because that person no longer thinks of themselves this way. The idea of the Force having Good and Evil sides makes very little sense, but does fit the dogmatic ideology of the Jedi and Sith. When you consider that a lot of the most evil Sith we've ever seen were once former Jedi, the belief they can go from good to evil as if flicking a switch, does seem to have been indoctrinated into them. It also seems to be the case with Qunari and Tal-Vashoth in Dragon Age... where certain Tal-Vashoth seem to completely lose their minds after leaving the Qun, because they've been brainwashed into thinking that anyone who leaves the Qun will become a murdering savage, so that's what they must do? TL;DR... I just really want some nuance in Star Wars, rather than it be always Good/Evil stories.

I agree the combat is so clunky, but somehow I manage to get past it for the story and the characters. (Usually just turn down difficulty and spam flurry and force powers!) KOTOR and KOTOR 2 were what really got me into gaming, and Bioware, and I can go back to them time and time again and replay them over and over.

I really like HK. Probably the best Bioware character ever, with Mordin maybe close second (he was the best part of ME2). Though I also like Jolee, because his voice acting was great, and he is also really funny:
"You know what I hate? Well... you know, lots of things, really. But I'm old and easily annoyed. But that's beside the point."
Jolee: "You shouldn't have let me out, sonny. That was wrong. Admiral Karath won't be too happy with you disobeying his orders." Sith Trooper: "Yes. What I did was wrong. Very wrong." Jolee: "You deserve to be locked up in this cell for disobeying orders."
"Oh, I get it. Let's play with the old man's head, is it? He's half senile, he'll forget I said anything! Wait... what was this about...?"
On the other hand, he also makes really thoughtful commentary on the themes presented in the Star Wars universe, and how the Jedi teachings relate to it.
"Love doesn't lead to the dark side. Passion can lead to rage and fear, and can be controlled... but passion is not the same thing as love. Controlling your passions while being in love... that's what they should teach you to beware. But love itself will save you... not condemn you."

Controlling your passions while being in love... that's what they should teach you to beware. But love itself will save you... not condemn you." I remember the conversation from HK-47 asking about love. I don't remember everything from that conversation, but a few things stick out to me. "I belive its called 'pulling a bindo' " [HK-47 asks what that means] "Old man, bald head, long story" That phrase is exactly why I hope the 2 protagonists from the new star wars movie end up as a couple. Instead of going the classic Jedi route of 'love is evil, and should be avoided at all costs' .

something about kotor that I love is how disturbingly evil the consequences can be if you go dark side at the end I mean, the option of using force persuade on zaalbar and make him kill mission is the most fucked up moment I've seen in my gaming experience. It's also very disturbing how carth just runs off and leave mission to face darth revan and dark bastila all by herself...
I never go dark side in my playthroughs, but I love that this game have these options with real consequences

And it was surprisingly fun to be evil in that game. Working with the Jedi Strike team on board the station to take them out, then killing off most of your friends. Like I said, only did it once. But that was very fun.
