Great game. Just finished playing Kotor for the first time and i really enjoyed it. Loved the characters and the story but i wasn't a big fan of the combat. The combat is the only thing that puts a bit of a downer on coming back to it for me, though the story and characters are always enough to outweigh it! Even the graphics and lack of in-depth character creation doesn't bother me because that was the norm when I first played it and now I can't imagine the characters looking any different. But yeah, the combat...not so fun these days. Normally I put all my points into two-handed and master flurry and use that exclusively until I get some decent force powers. I often take force lightning even on my 100% light side playthroughs just because of the AoE damage it does So I normally force-leap to a mob, use lightning on them a few times, then use flurry while my force power is regenerating. Are you going to play KOTOR2 as well? I would definitely recommend it - it's actually my favourite game of all time. If you're on PC, grab the TSL Restoration Mod - really cleans up some of the bugs and rushed endings. I can't play it without it now! Again, the cast of characters are great but the story is really a departure from the normal "Star Wars" tone of KOTOR - it delves into a lot of philosophy about the force and light and dark sides and dealing with the consequences of war.

I just started playing KOTOR 2 yesterday but i`m still at the beginning, i just finished the prologue and talked with Kreia. Thanks for the advise on the Mod .

*EDIT*
I have nothing against KOTOR 1. Its a well-made traditional classic Star Wars game. But after KOTOR 2 I can never really look at it or play it the same way again. KOTOR 2 is the first and only Star Wars story to subvert and deconstruct the setting and the black and white morality. The writing is so much more complex and in-depth and philosophical and morally grey that it makes KOTOR 1 look juvenile. Many fans don't like it because its not a traditional Star Wars series where the good guys are good for the right reasons and the bad guys are bad for the wrong reasons and the line between good and evil is always clear. Jedi are good. Sith are bad. Light Side is right and Dark Side is wrong. It tried to make you critically think about Star Wars. For the first time it made me think about the mythology and binary morality of Star Wars. Kreia is one of the best Star Wars characters and best video game characters of all time. The best mentor after Obi-wan Kenobi. A darker mentor who's not afraid to slap reality in your face.
Play it with the TSL Restored Content Mod v1.8.5. And if its still too slow for you then enable the cheat console. Also, get the Choose Mira Or Hanharr Mod and maybe the TSL Hak Pad mod.

I feel the same as you do about KOTOR 2. It's really a wonderful game and delves into the Star Wars setting in a way nothing else really has. Throw in some fascinating characters and writing and it all comes together in the most wonderful way. It really is my favourite game and I can replay it again and again. That said, I still very much enjoy KOTOR. The tone is very different and much more in-line with traditional Star Wars. I wouldn't use "juvenile" to describe it myself but I understand what you mean. It's more of a straightforward fun romp through the story, with fun characters and an excellent twist. But it doesn't have the same nuance, subtlety or introspection as the sequel. I realise that KOTOR is generally regarded as the more popular of the two, and KOTOR 2 certainly isn't helped by the fact it so was so rushed but with the restoration mod it really becomes something brilliant.

Well he does shout for Mission to run away as well, but she just stands there like a lemon. she was more brave than him he's the veteran republic soldier and then goes "run for it, mission! go go!" and leaves a 14 year old to face the baddies Speaking of that scene. Hey Zaalbar, I have job for you to do. Remember that life debt thingy?

I think Kreia is one of the most well-written characters in Star Wars. Did you play as a male or female? I love playing a lightside female Exile (Atton ) but there's a good replay value going through as a male afterwards as one of you companions changes - you pick up Brianna, the handmaiden instead of The Disciple/Mical . Also, I know a lot of people find Bao-Dur a but boring but I really liked him, especially the 'old war friends' thing between him and the Exile. And he seems very disillusioned and angry about the war and his part in it which I thought was interesting, especially if you bring him to Dxun and his comments with Mandalore.

I played a lightside female character. Loved Atton and Kreia and i also liked Bao-Dur, Visas and the rest of the companions. Of all the companions Mira was the one i liked less, maybe because she was the last one i recruited and i never got enough influence to make her a jedi or to know more about her.

Are these games canon anymore? I've read that Disney said it isn't and only the movies are canon now but I'm not a Star Wars fan so I don't know if it's true or not.
I would be glad if it isn't tbh... I didn't like what they did to Revan.

No I think they're part of the 'Legends' continuity now - they're not officially part of the canon but I think certain elements are. Malachor, for instance, is recognised. To be honest I never understand why some fans get so wound up about the idea of canon. I know when Disney first announced the new canon loads of people were angry because their favourite EU books were no longer part of it, but why does it really matter? The books still exist, you can still read them and enjoy them. Okay, so maybe things in the new films will contradict them but why should that hamper anyone's enjoyment of them as a piece of literature or media? Star Wars isn't actually real (sadly!) so anything Disney says or does shouldn't invalidate someone's own personal experience with the films, games, books or whatever. When the whole 'Revan is canonically male, Exile is canonically female' thing came about, I didn't care. In my games, Revan is a female, so whatever gender they choose for canon purposes is their own business and doesn't change how I feel about the character or game. Revan in SWTOR is a bit of a mess, sadly.

Yea, I only did one play through while going Dark. And it was surprisingly fun to be evil in that game. Working with the Jedi Strike team on board the station to take them out, then killing off most of your friends. Like I said, only did it once. But that was very fun. Ahh, the joys of the darkside. Embrace the awesomeness that is the darkside. It is your destiny. haha If you want more fun, click on the link in my signature. So much fun in that playthrough.

Are these games canon anymore? I've read that Disney said it isn't and only the movies are canon now but I'm not a Star Wars fan so I don't know if it's true or not. Star Wars: Rebels has been slowly been introducing elements of the old EU into the new Disney canon, including things from KOTOR such as Malachor and the Mandalorian Wars. The reintroduction of Grand Admiral Thrawn into canon in S3 means that it's possible they may do the same for Revan in the future, something that's been rumoured for a while. Revan was supposed to appear in the Clone Wars series (which Disney considers canon), but the scene ended up being cut, so sadly this means that Revan is still considered non-canon by Disney... (at least for the moment.) With how they've handled Thrawn's reintroduction, they've said that the character will be unchanged from the EU, but everything that happened in the EU games and books is considered non-canon and didn't happen, unless they decide otherwise. If they bring back Revan, they'd probably treat the events of KOTOR/SWTOR the same way.

Oh please leave Revan alone. He got overhyped by fans into an impossibly powerful Jedi after KOTOR 2 and then ruined in the novels and TOR. He was set to appear in the Clone Wars? He's from 4,000 years ago. Let him rip in peace.

Well if it happens I would prefer if they leave his story ambiguous so we can imagine whatever we want for him.

"Subverting and deconstructing the setting" defeats the purpose of SW, for me. It's like removing the mass effect from Mass Effect. It felt hollow and "off", SW only in name and a few details. I did enjoy the game, the characters and some elements in their own right, though. It's definitely worth playing. I always make sure SW fans know that things will be a bit "odd" going into this game, so that they're prepared.

KOTOR II is even better. That said, I should go back and finish KOTOR. I stopped because another friend played it and I basically know the whole story beforehand. Doesn't ruin how well it's written, but it's the sort of story that really builds up to, and relies on its big final twist and knowing that, it does sort of take a bit of steam out of it.

Oh, that's so lovely. SWTOR sometimes does this sort of stuff in the Smuggler's story :)
Tbh, though, for me the Revan's story ended up with KOTOR1. I truly liked my character in KOTOR1, but the Exile was my favorite.
In SWTOR, I did not mind the way they initially introduced the Cult on Korriban, but everything after that from the Jedi Prisoner flashpoint onward was not my thing.
Setting wise, please, don't through stuff, but once I've played KOTOR and SWTOR, the actual, Gospel Starwars lost its appeal to me. I much prefer the TOR Gossip setting, with multiple Jedi and Sith, and the conflict between them (okay, I guess I have to cut off right after Makeb then...), no rule of two, and not a single member of the Skywalker clan in sight... and if we forget about Revan's legacy...
Yeah, I would say my best loved time-period and setting in the SW verse is between KOTOR 1 and before the Shadows of Revan.

I know this is a KOTOR thread, but I wanted to know general opinion of TOR. My dad bought me a laptop for Christmas, and I haven't had a PC since 2009. I never really cared for PC gaming, always preferred consoles (No master race BS, please). But I had the idea to download TOR, just wanted opinion of it. Thank-you.

I played it for awhile right after it came out. My take is this: the story and characters are what you would expect from a Bioware game. The setting is developed well, and the music and voice acting are on point. You can choose either faction and each faction has 4 classes, each of which have their own story with a unique cast of characters, so there's a lot of content. You get your own ship and can participate in space battles, which are really fun. The regular combat, however, is a lot of button mashing, and while it was serviceable, it was also not very interesting. The side quests have dialogue, but many of them take the form of "go here and kill 5 giant rats pls." The engine is also a bit wonky. The design of the maps themselves is boring and everything is spread out, which leads you to waste time travelling from one important zone to another. Now that it's free, it's definitely worth trying, but it has its flaws.

I feel bad, because as I said, I haven't had a PC since 2009 and since my dad's been wanting to get me one. However, I turned it down. Most of the games I want(ed), are on console anyways. So I was never in a hurry to get a computer. I don't ever care about graphics, as I still play pac-man and tetris, which or like 5 or 6 pixels. But I feel bad because here I have a PC, but don't do anything with. It was this or a PS4 VR. (Using PS4 to type)
