it makes sense, but it can also come across as a little egocentric at times, to make everything about humanity, instead of making the story about exploring outwards and coming to terms with strange things that defy our common experience. I just see it as maybe a bit lazy. I like Tolkien’s approach to worldbuilding, just creating for the sake of creating, instead of trying to turn everything into a lesson mirror. I agree, that asari in Mass Effect says it best, IIRC, "You're all anthropocentric bags of dicks."
It'd be nice to see shows give world-building a bit more of a budget.

One of the things that my childhood afforded me, what with not being born and raised in the US, is that almost all of the great cartoon shows, hadn't aired here until the 90s. So shows like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, Flash Gordon, Blackstar, Silverhawks etc. made it right in time for me to enjoy. And one of those shows was, of course He-Man and later She-Ra. So naturally, I had to check Masters Of The Universe: Revelation. LMAOOOOOOOO what the fuck did I watch? Man sacrifices himself to save the world, women most affected. Literally, Teela outright complains about someone giving their life to save people, including herself. Ruins He-Man, ruins Prince Adam, ruins Teela, ruins Man At Arms and doesn't even leave anyone intact to carry the franchise for the sequel. Not that they're not alive, it's just that the character assassinations the show goes through, fucking destroys everything. Not only that, it paints those character assassinations, in a positive light. Like yeah, it's alright to be a self-absorbed, self-righteous fuck and it's OK to piss on everyone that did anything to afford you the life you live, especially when they sacrifice themselves to achieve it. And the reactions are absolutely beautiful. I'm having a blast. The original show had a very logical pattern. Prince Adam was capable, but played dumb a lot of the time, to hide the fact that he was actually a lot more capable than people thought he was, here he is just a spoiled, dumb brat, Teela was revealed to be the daughter of the Sorceress and destined to succeed her and potential mate to Prince Adam, whose children would be incredibly powerful. And we could have had such a story. Or we could have had a classic He-Man story. You know, Skeletor, Castle Greyskull blah blah, Sorceress, quest for thing, Teela, Man At Arms and Prince Adam go out to find it, He-Man fights Skeletor or maybe have a twist, Skeletor wins and this or that happens and Teela finds out He-Man's real identity, so that the title has a meaning and you can actually have some drama and tension, between Teela and Prince Adam, so part 2 can be about fighting back from significant loss etc. etc. Why the fuck make this piece of shit we got instead?

Watched Masters of the Universe: Revelation yesterday. The original released a bit before my time, so while I watched it in the late 80's it never really stuck. (More of a Transformers guy IMHO.) Figured I'd give it a try though. I like the cheesy netflix animated shows for the most part. Gotta say, it missed the mark. The cast was phenomenal and probably expensive as fuck. Sarah Michelle Gellar voices the protag which was surprising. I didn't recognize her voice. Last I heard she was on a cooking show or something. Lena Headey, Liam Cunningham, Tony Todd, and Mark Hamill also show up. The animation was superb, particularly the backgrounds. Unfortunately the writing fell flat and there was some egregious shoehorning done. The story and plot(s) went all over the place. Some of their dialogue and concepts reminded me of stuff I wrote over a decade ago. (And I'm not a good writer.) I don't particularly agree with most of Rotten Tomatoes ratings but this one is truly weird. Currently it's rated 94% by critics, and 28% by the audience. Quite the difference. If you're on the fence I'd probably give this one a pass. *** I'm shocked.......But I happily stand corrected. I rarely talked to Aetheyta so I had no idea......That's kinda funny though. Arguably my favourite line from the series. Don't see the word anthropocentric thrown around a lot.

The worst thing is that, this story, could have worked had they not made Man At Arms apologize for everything, all the time, even things that he wasn't responsible for, didn't make Prince Adam a spineless wimp and Teela an arrogant prick. The three main characters you'd want to see and they made them unlikable.

(just my guess since he also did the voice of Joker in Batman the Animated Series in the early 90s). But I grew up on the 80s cartoon-- absolutely loved it! Still do! Have watched it on youtube even recently within the last year.....brought back a whole lotta good memories from childhood. Did not like the 2002 remake, but saw this one on Not Flicks just last night thought I'd check it out. You say, "hard pass" ?

Teela is unfortunately one of those strong women characters written by someone who thinks being an illogical insufferable bitch is a strong female character. 5 episodes of "you lied to me!" as central character motivation was stretching things out. Bit more development and growth wouldn't have hurt. Man at Arms was mobile plot-armour and plot-pusher. Which is particularly unfortunate as he was one of the more interesting ones, and with a great voice actor to boot. The setting was fine, techno-punk works both in concept and aesthetic. The main plot of "all magic dying" is derivative though. *** I'm guessing Mark Hamill did the voice of Skeletor? Yuppers. Does a great job. (With what he's given. As always.)

Teela is unfortunately one of those strong women characters written by someone who thinks being an illogical insufferable bitch is a strong female character. Oh man. The moment they get back from the battle with Skeletor and everyone is fucking devastated and Teela is all "how dare you all lie to me" and goes "fuck y'all, I'm leaving". While people are grieving a very important loss, to their faces. OH MY FUCKING GOD! You bitch, can you not be self centered for 5 fucking minutes. Kevin Smith, you can't be real. This isn't how you write a good person. He gave her exactly 0 redeeming qualities, the whole show. I'd take Mikey Burnham over her.

Started on The Blacklist, crime thriller, eight seasons. Story follows a former US Navy officer turned high profile criminal who turned himself in in order to catch dangerous criminals. He's willing to cooperate provided he works with the profiler of his choice, a rookie profiler named Elizabeth Keen. Starts off well with the question; why does he want to work with Keen? Edit. I watched for 15 mins earlier then went off to do something. The question was floating so I went back to it. I was puzzled by a comment made by the Keen character regards where to take the dog to; wtf are you talking about? at the dramatics of Elizabeth Keen picked up by the bureau. Military helicopter magically flew overhead and sirens wailing sounded with the cars pulling up within seconds. Did they teleport? Naturally, an action taken to prevent a crime taking place failed with the crime taking place after all. Oh the utter stupidity. *sigh* I can list the errors / precautions / steps not taken by the agents and the convoy. It confirms one thing though; modern US military units are useless on TV!! They're cannon fodder. I'm begging for logic in story writing. Is that so hard to ask?

I'm begging for logic in story writing. Is that so hard to ask? Do not keep watching The Blacklist, lol!!! A friend of me hate watched it for several seasons and shared all the bad writing with me. Until I was so fascinated by its awfulness that I watched S1. And I could immediately understand all the negativity, hahaha. What an awful show. Why was it so popular?! I was thinking the same thing about Luther btw. I lasted one season. Then I noped out of it.

I wish they'd hurry up and make a sequel to the 2018 Tomb Raider movie that followed the plot of the game/franchise reboot that I am currently playing on PC. I thoroughly-- extremely enjoyed the games and the movie as well, and I would love to see them continue the story. Maybe even make a movie of Shadows of the Tomb Raider!
Currently though, I am trying to watch........I'm not sure what. I've given up on a lot. The last series I remember thoroughly enjoying was BSG on Prime, or TROY: Fall of a City on Not Flicks before that. Just recently I watched my BD copies of THE EXPENDABLES Trilogy (Director's Cuts) and thoroughly enjoyed each of those, not sure which is my favourite. Can honestly say I haven't seen a lot on either Prime or Not Flicks to get excited about.......Though at the moment I am watching A Quiet PLACE PART II-- and I guess you could say I am enjoying that the most because of the sound design and the honest, accurate inclusion, use and portrayal of Deaf Culture and ASL.

Watched Masters of the Universe: Revelation yesterday. Only had time to watch the first episode, so far. Not sure if I read this right, but it's not a 'reboot', it is intended as a sequel to the 80s cartoon? Is that accurate? Anyway - like you, thought the animation was cool and the dialogue a bit rough. But hey, MotU was never The Wire. Bit surprising at the end of the first ep, but I guess that's why it's called Masters of the Universe and not He-Man; and The Masters of the Universe Anyway, I've seen a little bit of the online commentary about it, and you're the first person whose criticism hasn't devolved into 'LOLOLOLOL, Teela's a man', so I guess I'll consider myself forewarned by virtue of that. Will likely still watch the rest, but with lowered expectations

Not sure if I read this right, but it's not a 'reboot', it is intended as a sequel to the 80s cartoon? Is that accurate? Yup, continuation. While Lena Headey's voice acting was only par, (she sounds like Lena Headey voicing a slightly less angry Lena Headey) I found Evil-lyn to be interesting. Bit of nuance, but mostly just a promising character. *** Still burning through TNG. Bit of a sad scene I'd completely forgotten about. Data playing Poker with Newton, Einstein, and Hawking. Steven Hawking plays himself. Just struck me as a bit melancholy that he's really got a seat at that table now.
