Like most of you all, I've watched Wednesday on recommendation from friends. I thought it was ok, probably not something I'd watch again. Not sure I'd watch season 2 straight away when it comes out. I've stared watching the Dragon Age TV show - I'll get past half way thru the first episode before I decide if I like it or no . I finished Dune (the latest version) last night - found it to be very similar to the books. Can't believe it was 2.5hrs long and didn't get so far into the story though . It did finish at a convenient time in the story line though. I also started this Korean show (also from the same person who suggested Wednesday) called Alchemy of Souls. I liked Wednesday, I thought the actress was great but it was a bit light and I think more intended for late teens/young adults. I am on the fence re watching the DA show, look forward to what you think of it. I thought Dune was really well done and the changes they made worked well. Did you watch at home or the Cinema? The sound and music was HUGE at the cinema.

OMG the casting of Gomez in particular was terrible but I got used to Morticia and Lurch was way to small, they needed the guy from Reacher.

Went to see it in the cinema and the visuals were to die for imho. And agreed, this first movie ended at the right time; the scenery was set and the people introduced that matter for most part of the story.
The Dragon Age anime I liked after getting past the look which is a certain style I guess? Had to get passed the look of DA2 too when it came out compared to DAO for that matter .
The show I am really looking forward to is second season of Shadow and Bone which will air on March 16th on Netflix I read

Last night I binge watched Wednesday Addams season 1 on Netflix. It was fun, no twists and turns plot wise but entertaining Same, the plot was a huge let-down. Certainly one of the best shows this year.

Watched episode 4 of His Dark Materials, the series has certainly gotten better since episode three. I saw the first two seasons and liked the darker setting compared to the movie The Golden Compass in particular. It shows that there is less money to throw around for the setting compared to the movie ( but for me things definitely worked and really enjoyed them.
Back then really rooted for a second movie to come out but due to not earning enough for the first one it never came. The show does provide for me so far.

Currently watching 1899 and enjoying the hell out of it. Didn't realize beforehand it was made by the same people who made Dark. But the moment I fired it up it was obvious. The actor who played middle aged Jonas was one of the better actors of Dark and doing a good job here as well. Not too sure about the other German actors. As usual they sound a bit forced. Definitely a unique multi language show.
I've got only 1 episode left. Episode 7 explained a lot. Right now it feels a lot less vague than Dark. And will hopefully not suffer from the chicken and egg time travel problem that kind of made Dark too convoluted in S3. Narrative really drew me in fast, shipped Maura and Eyk right away but looks like it's not meant to be. Going to watch the finale before going to bed.
Watched the first episode of Wednesday. Definitely a show for teenage kids. Not my cup of tea at all. Enjoyed the old Addams family movies but this is not for me.
I watched a BBC mini series by one of the Sherlock writers I'm very conflicted about: Inside Man. I'll say this: extremely fun to watch preposterous nonsense. The premise is so unbelievable it kind of ruins the whole idea of the show that anybody can end up trapped in a crazy situation and become a murderer. Because you have to be special kind of irrational idiot to get into THIS particular situation. I just don't buy it. At the end I decided this was more a parody than a drama even though it tried really hard to be serious at times. The tone was all over the place. But I'll admit I had great fun with this bizarre story. The actors were great. There's S2 bait and if it gets made (which I doubt going by the reviews) I'll watch it because of the lead actress. Also, Stanley Tucci is just sexy in this role.
A while ago I watched Sandman and enjoyed it well enough. Mostly because I didn't read the graphic novel so I can't get upset over changes like I was with American Gods, which I had to stop watching halfway through S1, thought it was god awful and tonally a massive shift from the novel. The Sandman is a hilarious emo dude. Enjoyed most characters except for Lucifer. After Tom Ellis as Lucifer this was... not great, lol. I'll watch S2.
As stated in the DA sub, I did not enjoy Absolution. Or rather I quit halfway through episode 1. So can't really judge the whole thing.
I watched Cabinet of Curiosities. I agree with the reviews that the quality of the episodes was all over the place. There was only one that I thought was amazing and truly terrifying: The Autopsy. Worst one was the one with the rats. Comically bad imo. Fortunately it was also the shortest by far.
Very hit and miss for me lately.
As for movies, I watched Del Toro's Pinocchio and loved it. Amazing art style as usual. Never read the book, will have to do it now. Had no idea it was this dark. Not the biggest fan of singing and I could have done without it here too but great adaptation in any case.

1899... regarding the final I can't decide if Maura is just one crazy person who create her own hell or this is all just AI going crazies trapped inside a server doing simulation and trying to "escape" from the main program while the servers are running out of juice. It could also be some crazy AI who trapped people inside a simulation and the creator of said simulation (Maura) has to find her way out.
2099 is so just another simulation. There is a lots of Inceptions mood to that show. I've watched the season finale and OH BOY. I should have known that it was going to get batshit crazy where anything is possible at this point. My own theory about what's going on was a lot less complicated than what we'll probably get. I wasn't sure if this was a multi season story either. So for the longest time I thought that Maura has Alzheimer's like her mother who must have gotten it very young too and this illness is hereditary after all (unlike regular old age dementia). And her family found a way to communicate with her inside her head. Or alternately, Maura never got over her son's death and is now in a kind of locked in state where she is unresponsive to the outside world. Kinda like a coma but one brought on by emotional trauma.
But this seems unlikely now. It would kinda suck to spend so much time with these characters if they're all just inside Maura's head and nobody but her husband and father are real, communicating with her somehow, desperately trying to get her to remember who she is and wake up. Her son being an AI since he's dead. Daniel said they did build a simulation together and it was their son's room, right? So he must be dead.
If 2099 is real, which I doubt too, then I'm not sure where this show would run with that. Then we'd have a total sci-fi show set on an actual spaceship that would be very expensive to make. Seems more likely that this a Matrix/Westworld thing where the characters have to figure out how to escape. The simulation, not the spaceship.
Or it's really Lost and they're all in hell or purgatory or something. Because most of them have done shitty things, often killed and assumed somebody else's life.
I want Daniel to be who he says he is because that would be the least predictable thing. I like the idea of a tragic love triangle where Maura forgot her real family and falls in love with Eyk inside the simulation. And for that to have any meaning Eyk and everyone else needs to be a real person. Eye and Maura have crazy good chemistry while Maura and Daniel have NONE whatsoever. Not sure if that's intentional.
Been reading the reddit discussion and many people think Eyk is her real husband and Daniel is just manipulating her. That he's either her crazy brother (oh, awkward!) or a crazy AI. I don't like the idea. I'm more interested in exploring the value of a real experience compared to virtual reality and if there's really any difference emotionally. Is the attraction between Maura and Eyk less valid because they're just in a simulation? If Daniel is indeed her husband, is she obligated to stay with him if they escape the simulation if all her new feelings are for other people?
I REALLY hope it's not going to be like Dark where everyone is related... I also pray there's no time travel this time. Don't want people being their own parent.
I'm also on the fence about everyone in the simulation being connected in some way through their pasts and their memories just got wiped. I'd like to focus on strangers being thrown into an overwhelming situation forming groups and (romantic) partnerships. How this all unfolds.
One fan theory I read is that these are all killers on some kind of prison ship being made to work though their issues like some fucked up therapy. While I like it, the ship in 2099 would be real then, so where are the guards? This MIGHT work if the person whose pod is empty killed them all. Who may or may not be Maura's brother. Funny how many people first assumed Daniel was her brother. I assume that was intentional (misdirection?).
Another theory I read: The ship is a colony ship escaping a desolate Earth but the ship is failing and they're trying to figure out how to steer it to safety in the simulation. Running scenarios. But then why would they need to have their memories wiped? Unless they're all still in stasis sleep and some kind of AI is running a simulation. Again, why pick 1899? Why not pick their actual spaceship? This just complicates things unnecessarily.
The least convoluted theory so far I read is that this simulation is a kind of therapy session for regular people indeed created by Maura but something got corrupted and now they're all trapped. Still begs the question of trapped where physically? Surely somebody would come and unplug them if people went missing from days?
So then are they really on that ship??? And Maura's brother is a rogue AI of sorts? Or just gone crazy? There has to be a plausible reason why there's nobody around to get them physically out of the simulation and a reason they can stay in the simulation without starving. But at first glance I didn't see anything Matrix style that feeds the dreamers...
So really, some kind of purgatory makes the most sense, even if that's the most unsurprising uncreative idea. But I don't mind that as long as the character drama is good.
Going by Dark's narrative however it's going to be something very convoluted again with crazy twists they may or may not really hold up at the end. So it's probably none of the above. There are no reliable narrators on this show so the truth could be anything at this point. Which could be good or bad. I like foreshadowing and symbolism and all that stuff but I also need some kind of framework. There is literally nothing said that we can trust. So I hope the writers are not going to jerk us around too much just to be clever.
In any case, I cannot wait for S2, praying this doesn't get cancelled. Amazon already broke my heart this year when they cancelled Night Sky.

I tried to watch the new Dragon Age show last night (not knowing what it was, just hearing they had made a show)....and it's a 1980's cartoon! I'm not overly fond of the art style or medium choice....I was hoping for something a little more sophisticated like CLONE WARS. Clone Wars I will watch even for the art style, not this. As interesting as the story might be, I can't get past the overly-cartoonish look.

And what they call "Reality TV" is scripted and set up anyway....like all the Home-Reno types of shows, the home owners are told before hand what home to buy, what to say and how to react. All for show. A friend of my cousin was on Love It Or List It Vancouver several years ago, and later they reported that off-camera they were told what to do/say and even what home to like or dislike etc. It was totally staged, there was nothing genuine about any part of the experience.
That's why I don't understand peoples' obsession with shows like Big Brother, Survivor or The Amazing Race. They're all fake. Hoiw Networks can replace actually good shows (ie ARROW) with this garbage is beyond me. This is the reason why I don't watch much TV, hardly any at all. Because it's full of crap shows.
I am interested in shows like the up-coming ECHO, but that is mostly because the lead actress Alaqua Cox is Deaf and i'm always interested to see Deaf culture being represented on TV. So we will see what happens....apparently ECHO is due out in Spring of 2023.

I am dying laughing watching Farzar. This is some dark, caustic, childish, dick and fart joking comedy. I decided to press play because the description honestly reminded me of Mass Effect. Was not disappointed It is juvenile and also smart. Tacky, crass, edgy... I am not sure it is for everyone, but it is killing me right now lmfao On Netflix, 10 episodes I think

Started watching "Jack Ryan" on Prime, not entirely sold on it. It's okay, it's good....but it's not the "I can't leave the edge of my seat or take my eyes off the screen" kind of good (like my parents rave about it being). And it deviates from the source material on several characters in ways that are off-putting. Not to emtnion that there are a few actors I don't care for in their roles.

Last night I binged The Witcher Blood Origin on Netflix. I was pleasantly surprised. The new lore does not feel into ones face and the cast and story was very decent to good.
Hendry Cavill left and I am curious if, and if so with whom, season three of the previous show will continue of the original Witcher show.

Witcher Blood Origin is being absolutely demolished on review sites. And not just by viewers, upset by Cavill leaving the show and some 'woke' stuff, but professional reviewers too. I'm tempted to give it a try.

Shows to start the year with:
Only Murders in the Building Season 2 - Disney+ Slow Horses Season 2 - Apple+
Not quite as good as the first seasons were, but still good.

Finally finished watching His Dark Materials season 3 last night.
I am really not sure what to say about it, the story was good overall, but the pacing and some the writing was terrible in parts. By mid-way through season 3 as at other times in the first two seasons I was ready to just stop watching but decided to see it through.
I won't say the ending made the whole show worth watching but it was good and that is the frustrating thing. Parts were very good and parts were terribly written and parts of the pacing were a slog to get through.
I am usually someone who keeps watching a show if new seasons come out just to see what happens but I just really don't know if I will with HDM.

Just got home. Watched Avatar in the cinema and it was AWESOME.
WHAT a movie, I have been in awe from start to finish and it sucked me right in. The 3 hours 12 minutes seat was done in a blink of an eye.
Go watch this movie in the cinema in 3D, you will not regret it.
