I'm an avid sci-fi fan, and yet Avatar 1 didn't do anything for me. Would you say that it's an okay movie without 3D? I'm asking, because my stereo vision is rather poor.

I'm an avid sci-fi fan, and yet Avatar 1 didn't do anything for me. Would you say that it's an okay movie without 3D? I'm asking, because my stereo vision is rather poor. Some scenes are even more beatifull due to the 3D, especially the under water scenes are spectacular.
If you did not like Avatar 1 I guess the story is not for you? This second movie is a follow up on first one, more lore about the planet and the introduction of the water people besides the forest people we met in the first movie. If Dune is what you are looking for then Avatar is not for you RWB.
What I liked particularly is recognizing the Maori traditions in the water tribe, the whale hunt versus the Tulkun hunt and so much more. Imho everything very cleverly set to it being natural for the world the story is set in. I dare say the movie shows how humans will probably never learn because they do everything they can to mess up the world they violently invade and plunder.

If Dune is what you are looking for I'm looking for anything sci-fi, really. From what I gather, Avatar 2 sounds promising, I'll add it to my backlog. humans will probably never learn because they do everything they can to mess up the world they violently invade and plunder. Well said indeed.

Watched the baseball documentary "Facing Nolan" last night. As a baseball player/fan it was really interesting and a great insight into a great player and his family.
I would never have believed it that he never won a Cy Young award, he pitched a season where he had two perfect games plus twenty wins. He lost out to someone I had never heard of and whose record for the season did not come close to comparing.
Does anyone know whether he was disliked by the press who I believe vote for it?

That Doc is on My List, have yet to watch it though. That's surprising you say he never won a Cy Yong award with the career he had, but the Press get a lot wrong so if it's an opinion-based vote....I wouldn't put much stock in it. Whether or not he won a Cy Yong award...I believe what counts is that he is in the Hall of Fame. But if you want possible answers to your questions, this site has some reasonable explanations: www.sportskeeda.com/baseball/news-3-reasons-nolan-ryan-never-won-cy-young-award#:~:text=While%20Nolan%20Ryan%20has%20some%20unbreakable%20records%2C%20some,pitcher%20in%20any%20given%20season.%20Super%2070s%20Sports

They threw up a stat where he (I hope I am remembering this right) lost 3 games, maybe in the 73 season where his team's offence scored zero runs and the opposition scored 3 runs. I think this was an example of him not getting the support from his teams that would have made his stats better. A stat I did find in an article that looks at pitchers that were "Snubbed" Cy Youngs was: "Although Jim Palmer pitched very well, Ryan was snubbed". bleacherreport.com/articles/867633-6-biggest-snubs-in-cy-young-voting-history"Palmer’s WAR was 6.1 compared to Ryan’s 7.9. Ryan also threw considerably more innings and had 225 more strikeouts than Palmer." I'd love to know what percentage of his walks were hit batters and how many were intentional. The documentary doesn't try and make him sound like the greatest pitcher or that he was robbed of a Cy Young award just that it was surprising. The documentary's focus is as much on him as a person, his family life and his achievements given he wasn't that great early on in his career and how much work he put into being better and without the support he needed early on.

Just finished watching the first episode of The Last of Us on HBO. Ugh, I hate zombies, and parasites, and creepy things in general. The girl playing Ellie looks familiar but no idea where I may have seen her before. Her name didn't ring any bells when I saw it in a review a few days ago.
Anyone else watching? I haven't played the game/s....are they even available on PC? Some of the camera work early on (the driving sequence) made it seem like they were trying to emulate the video game 1st person perspective. Can't say I cared for it but then, I don't like playing action/rpg games in FPP. Point and click adventure games, sure, but there's not much movement in those so I don't get dizzy.

I have no interest in it and have not played the game for all the reasons you said you didn't like it. IMDB says Bella Ramsey made her professional acting debut as fierce young noblewoman Lyanna Mormont in Season 6 of HBO's 'Game of Thrones, I remember the character but not her.

What dazk said. Game of Thrones - Bear Island knows no king save for the King in the North whose name is Stark. She was internet iconic for her death stares for a hot minute. *** I have it available to watch, but not really super interested. The Walking Dead wasn’t interesting past the first couple of seasons (with a brief Negan interlude) and haven’t played the games. Heard they’re amazing, but horror isn’t really my thing.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan did such a great job as Negan, that he had my anxiety through the roof when he made Rick his bitch.

My wife has watched all the way through, though. I think she has even watched most of Fear the Walking Dead, as well. Negan was pretty entertaining as a character. JDM is an endless ocean of charisma in human form, which probably helps, even when playing an unhinged psychopath.

Negan was pretty entertaining as a character. JDM is an endless ocean of charisma in human form, which probably helps, even when playing an unhinged psychopath. I remember JDM when he starred in Supernatural as John Winchester he was very charismatic as well back then. But his job as Negan was great at least in that one episode. Just thinking of that episode while writing this is bringing up my anxiety. As for the series itself I had been watching since the first season. The show had many charismatic villains like Shane and the Governor. The governor was played by a British actor who I had seen before, but he did a great job with his mimicking an American accent.

So Im kinda bored with Not Flicks and even Mouse Minus so I started watching Rotten Fruit (AppleTV+), and surprisingly there are several shows there that I am interested in watching or at least checking out. Echo 3 is at the top of the list for a Suspense/Action type show...But on the lighter side of things, someone at work told me about a show called "Amber Brown", a family oriented show about a girl in Middle School whose life and family is going through a lot of changes, and each episode is about one way that change comes...and gives the audience a window into how she deals with that change.
I looked it up on youtube, and I have to say, the young girl who plays the title role seems to be very well-spoken, very thoughtful, self-aware and grounded for her age with all the success she has experienced of late. Seems like it is meant to be just a nice, family show. And it is Produced, Written and Directed by Bonnie Hunt whom I really like...so I might just watch it on nights I want something light.
But as for Mouse Minus....Im anxious for the show about Ahsoka, and The Acolyte. And Season 3 of The Mandalorian, of course.
Most recently though Ive been bingeing the Jason Bourne movies (the most recent one from 2016 was not as bad as I first remembered when I saw it in theaters). Watxhing it again on Not Flicks...I actually enjoyed it.

I dare say the movie shows how humans will probably never learn because they do everything they can to mess up the world they violently invade and plunder. This is a sad truth. As long as there are greedy politicians who benefit from war there will always be conflict. I'm American and our politicians and generals make their fortune off of war. I always said it the world would be a peaceful place if there were no politicians. When I was growing up in the 80's and 90's it was a very pro-American atmosphere here, and movies like Rambo and wrestling characters like Hulk Hogan were walking propaganda machines. For the longest time we were taught to hate Russians (mostly the Soviet Union) and Germans, and in my adult years I've met both and have no ill will towards them. Heck I had an ex-girlfriend who lived in Australia who was of German descent, and I went on the longest flight of my life to meet her family. For three years I did this going back and forth from New York to Sydney. It just goes to show how the youth are brainwashed into believing certain things.

Long story short, lack of team success. Looking back with a modern view, 1987 was probably the year he most deserved to win, he was 8-16 that year. Also, this may be heresy to you but, while he did have a legendary career, his peak dominance was lacking compared to his contemporaries.

Here is a YouTube video discussing exactly that.
Long story short, lack of team success. Looking back with a modern view, 1987 was probably the year he most deserved to win, he was 8-16 that year. Also, this may be heresy to you but, while he did have a legendary career, his peak dominance was lacking compared to his contemporaries. Thanks for sharing that it was really inciteful. In the Facing Nolan documentary the Paper throwing things is said to be not true as he threw the papers left-handed out of a car. Not heresy to me at all, the Facing Nolan documentary is pretty honest with all that stuff and from what I remember they never said he "Should" have won one, just that like me people are surprised he never did. I certainly never worshipped at the shrine of Nolan Ryan, I was much more a fan of pitchers like Greg Maddux, Andy Pettite, Randy Johnson and odd balls like Danny Ojeda. I was glad the guy mentioned Burt Blyleven, he is my favourite pitcher and the pitcher I considered myself most like when playing. I was really glad when he made the Hall of Fame.
