Has the DA site always said this? I feel like it said something about a new hero before, but I don't remember the "one they'll never see coming" part before. "Thedas needs a new hero; one they'll never see coming. Forge a courageous fellowship to challenge the gathering storm. Friendship, drama, and romance abound as you bring striking individuals together into an extraordinary team. Become the hero and light the beacon of hope in their darkest moments." The Behind the scene a few months ago pointed toward "one they'll never see coming" for the new PC, I think one of the dev directly said that line actually.

I never noticed the pictures on the metal triangles in the above image before, they remind me of the golden tiles you collect in the game. In the new image we got today the triangles have the three lines at different angles as described in the war table mission.

Magic, monsters and mysteries, definitely feels like Thedas. Sad that such great stories come at such an unexpected departure.

So I assume it's okay to discuss the stories openly. Things I've taken from the stories so far:
The Next One: Brianne Battye seems to be writing the character of Evka, whether as a companion or prominent NPC. I assume this is a follow on to the previous story about her (Hunger) and on reaching Weishauppt the Wardens have been set the task of dealing with the strange new monsters that were discovered in Horror of Hormack. Anyway, what with concept art and VA showcase, it seems definite that the wardens are going to be involved in DA4 in some major way.
However, the other stories are by people who were not involved with Tevinter Nights even though two of the stories are using characters that appeared there.
The Wake - Is the most noticeable example of this. If people have not read Tevinter Nights then they will not understand the relations between the various characters mentioned or how Illario's words could have more than one meaning. So I'm not going to assume anyone is dead until I see a body. Still it would seem that the Crows are going to play a major part in the game, if that was not already evident from the concept art.
Ruins of Reality: Strife and Irelin looks as though they will be playing some part in the game. As with Evka I assume they could just be prominent NPCs rather than companions. Irelin seems to be able to shift into so many different animals it would be difficult to accommodate that as companion. The main thing I am taking from that story is that we will be going to Arlathan Forest at some point and are going to find weird stuff going on there. Whether that is due to Solas or the influence of some other elven god, Ghilan'nain or Andruil, remains to be seen but I'm just glad we may finally get to see the location.
Minrathous Shadows: This at least seems to have cleared up one gripe I had with Tevinter Nights, which was the fact that the Venatori seemed to be operating openly (at least in Vyrantium) and it was needing paid assassins from outside the Imperium to deal with them. I'm pretty sure it was said somewhere that it wasn't illegal to belong to the cult, which seemed odd at the time. Now it is confirmed that the situation is still the same as in DAI and the Venatori are illegal in Tevinter as well as the south. Is Tarquin the Templar going to feature? Quite possibly. Is he a southern style Templar or a northern one? Not clear about that but it did seem as though it was the Dealer who neutralised the magic. The Dealer would appear to be the Viper but who is that? Someone we already know in disguise or a new individual? I do wonder if these characters are part of the network that seemed to be sponsoring the elimination of Venatori in Tevinter Nights.
What I do find curious is that I don't recall having this amount of information upfront about a game when it hadn't even been officially announced. So is this an indication that we are going to see some sort of official launch next week?

So yeah, I'm guessing they must have recovered or recreated ancient Arlathan weaponry. Or the Executors have direct links to the ancient elves which is why Solas sees them as such a threat.

Where is this on the DA site as I couldn't see it. Was I in the wrong section? www.ea.com/games/dragon-ageUnder the "Welcome to Dragon Age" section.

So is this an indication that we are going to see some sort of official launch next week? The game is 2+ years away, but we might get an official name next week. I don't think we are getting more information. DAI had two novels leading into it and Asunder released in 2011. We currently have one short story compilation book and a few more short stories today. Maybe getting it via short stories gives the impression we are getting more? And I do think people might be reading too much into the short stories. Oh and the new intro text on the official website scream ME2. Will I be able to push Solas out of a very tall tower/window? That's support important to get the ME2 feels right.

Oh and the new intro text on the official website scream ME2. So easily the worst in the franchise, drags the entire series down, ruins what made the series special, and throws out the lore and logic to appeal to the lowest denominator? Eh, sounds about right.

Stupid EA website, I don't want to read those in French!!!! I was actually surprised that the short stories are translated (and into all languages the site is available in apparently, but I didn't check). You can luckily change the site's language at the bottom right!

I just had a weird thought. If they keep the heist theme of the original project, what if we're going to have code names for our character and companions? I mean, it's pretty obvious at this point that the PC will have some kind of title that can also function as a code name but from Tevinter Nights and these new short stories we've got Lucanis who was The Demon, this new Viper person, and Strife (that wasn't really his name, right? I forget).

Minrathous Shadows was also decent. Was it the Templar who blocked the magister’s magic, or the dealer? I was wondering the same thing? And the Viper was the dealer?

In the story though, the elves were Dalish of the Arlathan Forest. No mention of the Executors... There are a few things I find curious about that and have since Tevinter Nights. Firstly, we were repeatedly told the Dalish don't go near Tevinter and Arlathan Forest is part of Tevinter (or near enough as makes no difference), yet suddenly there are clans up there, so I'd be interested to know if they've been up there very long. Secondly, this ancient book/relic that is said to have belonged to their Keeper. This reminds me of another ancient tome said to have belonged to Arianne's clan in Witch Hunt. Where are the Dalish getting these tomes from? Thirdly, the strange magic used. May be it is related to Alexius' time magic but the turning around and ending up going in the opposite direction to that which you intended does remind me of the magic used by the Lady of the Forest to exclude us from Witherfang's stronghold. You will recall if we tried walking in, we ended up coming out again. Then another spirit, the Poet Tree, gave us the means to overcome it. The Poet Tree also said the Brecillian Forest was planted by the elves and the Lady had been a spirit there from the outset, so clearly this illusion magic has been around since the time of the ancient elves, which means that Solas would be familiar with it. So if it is similar to the magic used by Alexius then Solas was once again lying (evading?) about his knowledge of such magic. So far as the Executors are concerned, what I meant was that if the Executors have links with the ancient elves, then it is possible that symbols they use might well turn up on ancient elves as well, or even Dalish who had acquired ancient elven relics (which could include robes)

Yes, the Viper was the dealer and it did read like he was the one who blocked the magic. The magister is shocked and looks at the dealer after her spell fizzes out.

Strife (that wasn't really his name, right? I forget). It is odd because he claimed to be a city elf that joined the Dalish, yet Strife is not a name that we have seen used by either faction of modern elves. However, we do know that Solas means Pride and Abelas meant Sorrow, so having a name like Strife would be more consistent with being an ancient elf than a modern one, although in that case it ought to be the elven word for it rather than the human version. The ancient elves would also seem to change their name with their role in life (curiously rather like the Qunari), as Abelas had had two previous names and would likely have taken another when he find his new path in life after leaving the Temple. So if Strife is really an ancient elf working for Solas (or someone else) then it can be regarded as his adopted name for the present. It is possible each of the companions will have a code name, even if that is only how we are originally hear about them and how we refer to them until we discover the person behind the mask. I suppose it also makes sense if the group are trying to evade the notice of their enemies (particularly Solas) that they will travel under code names to conceal their identity.

I like this idea! Maybe Illario knows and is just being a ham with his performance. That sounds like something he would do. 😉 Also, I love that we know what made Evka decide to become a GW, makes me like her even more.
