Something about the image says Dead Sea to me, so salt lakes works too. lol

It could be Void stuff too. If we assume the Blight comes from the Void (which is pretty well attested), it could be really interesting if the Void is somehow associated with the ocean.

Maybe Andruil finds the Void, grabs some ancient cosmic civilization’s tech (the Blight), and Ghilan’nain grabs some other stuff for monster making — drenched in seawater. Real color-out-of-space shit. All the tech is ancient, even to Thedas’ old gods, and has its own agenda beyond their understanding. So of course it fucks them up.

We’ve seen passing references to the Void and the Abyss in the Fade and the titans, but never anything definitive. The ocean would be both a plausible new location and would mesh well with eldritch themes. Also, I am continuing to side-eye those sea-obsessed Executors.

They dragged Varric out of his well deserved retirement for that? Either they are not very far with developing the game's companions or they don't trust them to generate enough interest and prefer to play it safe with a returning (again...) fan favourite character.

No one will see the new protagonist coming because there's no shiny hand? That means that pretty much anyone would be qualified, I guess...

A possible guess made by many is that Varric can be an intermediary between the Inquisition and the new protagonist, in what role, I don't know for sure.
For a teaser, I get why they wanted a recurring character and not a companion...but since it was a teaser, I wouldn't have hyped the game's presence.

and people get upset when I say that BioWare shouldn't show anything until a month or two before release.

For teasing the game, I get why they picked Varric. It's far more popular and 'recognizable' as a main DA character then either.
As for the intermediary role...yeah. Well, I'll be fine if he's a sort of advisor and not a companion. 

They can always change things later, but the question is can the online community handle when things are alter or changed from posted videos.  <looks over at Dragon Age: Inquisition>

It might be an unpopular opinion...but I prefer the teaser's Solas to DAI's Solas. He does look sort of weird, but I never thought Solas looked good in DAI.
I'm quite sure his appearance will change, anyway, as they did with Morrigan.

I wonder a lot about the ocean theme too. There is definitely something about the emerald waters. It is supposedly where Andraste first met 'the Maker', and Solas calls the fade 'the sea' of dreams. When the executors say they are from 'across the sea', they could really just mean they originate from the sea of dreams - not the literal sea surrounding Thedas. So they could really originate as spirits from the non material plane. When beings die, they supposedly go back to the fade. Maybe executors are reborn in this way somehow with self awareness.

The codex says Mythal stole the knowledge of how to get to the void from Andruil. Maybe she was tempted to master the void's power despite her best intentions and she became like Meredith. From what I've read so far I don't get the impression Andruil is as bad of a monster as some of the other elven leaders...

It's a new class in the novels they've released so far that is very rogue-y and a bit merc. The way Varric says that the next hero comes from an unlikely place makes you think of the bottom rungs of society. A street rat turned thief* turned merc turned fortune hunter sounds about right- none of that makes me think of "next great hero of Thedas".

*thief/rogue is my spin, Lord of Fortune (LOF) doesn't have to be a rogue, and has been depicted in the novel as a rogue and a warrior so mage isn't out either. 


We're all going to be locked into the Qunari Background Tarot card story, essentially. I expect the prologue/intro gameplay will be doing tasks for this Guild.
