That seemed to be a qunari, judging from the horns and armor style. I can literally dress any of the characters in a Qunari outfit in DAI. And that person looks too short to be a kosith Charter is far better than Varric. I heap a Meh upon them both.

Despite the horn, I think it's the in-game version of this bow. And from what we've seen in with the short story artwork, they're Dalish.

A question, why people are saying the LoF background is confirmed? I don't hear any word that suggest something about the background. It's a new class in the novels they've released so far that is very rogue-y and a bit merc. The way Varric says that the next hero comes from an unlikely place makes you think of the bottom rungs of society. A street rat turned thief* turned merc turned fortune hunter sounds about right- none of that makes me think of "next great hero of Thedas". *thief/rogue is my spin, Lord of Fortune (LOF) doesn't have to be a rogue, and has been depicted in the novel as a rogue and a warrior so mage isn't out either. We're all going to be locked into the Qunari Background Tarot card story, essentially. I expect the prologue/intro gameplay will be doing tasks for this Guild. I know what the LoF are, and I do like the idea of the background of the new PC being this one. I just didn't see any information on this in the teaser. The unlikely bit was already mentioned in the summary on the site. The trailer also shown what appeared to be a Warden in the first shot, and the other characters shown all look to be from specific factions, possibly.

archery porn...confirmed. I thought something elf before... but seeing it again now, it is only the head, unless this is a headpiece made from dragon horns or something. Or that group Hungr mentioned above. I'm so looking forward to seeing a more modernised city in the DA universe too, look at those lights! I remember seeing a concept art of mages creating a hologram-esque theatre scene. It would be so awesome if we could actually see something like that in the game. I must have missed that art? I'd also like that. Though given the track record of magic=almost exclusively dangerous (TM) as of late, I'm not holding my breath. I'd rather expect more "why templars are necessary" BS than be disappointed.

It might be an unpopular opinion...but I prefer the teaser's Solas to DAI's Solas. He does look sort of weird, but I never thought Solas looked good in DAI. I'm quite sure his appearance will change, anyway, as they did with Morrigan. I think he looks fine. DAI faces still lacked quite a bit of detail that is achievable now in games. And Solas's sharp features are simply underlined by shadows and that splotch of light, which I guess why he may look wonky for some, while any face would look striking in such setting. And while this was... well... just a teaser I can already see improvements to all aspects of graphics (since this is effectively the first face from DA we see in any significant detail, with tweaks likely still happening in the future). More details on the face, different textures, different lighting, different animatons... I'd just like to point out that even if they began with the exact model from DAI, just improvements in that regard would change the face and how it looks, both for Solas and others.

where are people getting Lord of Fortune confirmed from? I have no idea, there's no impression of this in the teaser, at least as far as I'm concerned. However, I still get a strong heisty!sneaky!spy-ish! sort of vibe, which also likely betrays what kind of character we may be playing. This teaser did nothing to dispel my impression that this will be mostly a shadow war between all sorts of shadowy people (spies, thieves, assassins, secret agents, etc.).

It's been my pet peeve forever that a lot of fantasy is just stuck in some sort of dark ages, with magic being stuff of fireballs, spirit summoning or magic poultices and not, say, magical road/shop signs, magical movies or all kinds of magical devices improving everyday life.

Just noticed the griffon statue in this image. So I'm guessing this is Minrathous, and they have a Warden outpost here. Wardens seem to be showing up a lot in the concept art.

But "Magic was meant to serve man, and never to rule over him". What if magic was used to make the mundane life easier, or better...or both? Just imagine, a sparkling green sign on a Tevinter highway "All clear", then suddenly, it shifts to a deep, burning red "Queues ahead, suggest alternate route"....

I don't want it to be though. Especially not if "merc group from Rivain" robs us of proper Rivaini character or background. Bonus points if it goes like "I'm from this country you'll never visit, but I hate my culture and won't talk much about it, trolol!". Looking at you, Cassandra.
Bioware seems to have a bit of "people hating their culture" as of late, unless they are dull mainstream andrastians of course.

I'd say that's more nuance on magic itself, not the mageocracy. That's hard to justify the bad, which is why all the good Tevinter mages (Dorian, Maevaris, Francesca) want to change parts of it.

I agree there was nothing to indicate that the newPC was a lord of fortune as opposed to anyone else Solas wouldn't see coming.

Well I guess with that I'm totally expecting Varic to be our middleman to get us in contact with people from all over Thedas, since he knows people everywhere. Companion wise if we are getting anybody from Inq I think it'll be between him and Dorian. They have the more simple endstates if I recall, not too many big deviations.

Maybe because they're silver? Funnily enough, design-wise they remind me more of DAO style than DAI style.

BioWare Double Feature at The Game Awards | Dragon Age & Mass Effectblog.bioware.com/2020/12/10/bioware-double-feature-at-the-game-awards/by Author -BioWare- Posted on December 10, 2020 Being part of The Game Awards this year was so exciting for all of us here at the studio, and we hope it was for you too. Earlier today we teased a little more about Dragon Age, giving you a glimpse of the story and some of its characters. And, surprise! Another team within BioWare has already begun pre-production on the next chapter in the Mass Effect universe. Rich, branching narratives, choices with consequences, and intriguing characters are central to the entire Dragon Age franchise, and we’re putting a lot of work into these. You’ll form relationships with companions who will fight by your side when you experience this true Dragon Age saga set in Thedas, a world in need of a new kind of hero. We’ve got a lot more in store for the Mass Effect universe and while we’ve got a long runway ahead of us before we’ll be ready to show you more, we hope the teaser set the tone for where we’re headed next. The teaser is full of hints about what we are planning, and we hope you have fun finding them all! In the meantime, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is coming in Spring 2021, so we’ll see you all back in The Citadel very soon. As we approach the holiday season, we want to send a heartfelt thank you to all of you for your passion for our games. We are excited about the future of BioWare, and to be making the games you want us to make. We look forward to sharing more about Dragon Age and Mass Effect, as well as the other titles the teams are working on here at BioWare in the new year. Stay safe, have a wonderful holiday season, The BioWare Team

I'm totally here for magic being used in more ways than typical fantasy stuff. It's been my pet peeve forever that a lot of fantasy is just stuck in some sort of dark ages, with magic being stuff of fireballs, spirit summoning or magic poultices and not, say, magical road/shop signs, magical movies or all kinds of magical devices improving everyday life. It would actually provide a welcome...nuance, I think, to the mageocracy of Tevinter. Yes, slaves and blood magic - all bad. No disputing that. I'd say that's more nuance on magic itself, not the mageocracy. That's hard to justify the bad, which is why all the good Tevinter mages (Dorian, Maevaris, Francesca) want to change parts of it. I usually just laugh at the magocracy=bad argument. Chantry BS or "Lambert lameness". Asshole nobles are everywhere, so...?
I mean, they bent over backwards in the DAI to make the rebel mages look bad, shit on non-circle mage concepts (Dalish especially) and tossed in a lot of "templars protect mages from themselves" BS. I'm extremely cautious with regards to that whole discussion, especially if that Tarquin guy and the people he works for are any indication of smelling like a native tevinter "mutant buster" style group.
I must have missed that art? I'd also like that. Though given the track record of magic=almost exclusively dangerous (TM) as of late, I'm not holding my breath. I'd rather expect more "why templars are necessary" BS than be disappointed. whoops sorry I am thinking of the Magekiller comic >.< Particularly this panel: I've always thought the magic used in Tevinter seemed so far advanced compared to Ferelden. Ah, thanks. That's wonderous. I wonder if we get actually a chance to appreciate such things/have NPCs do it as opposed to the standard southern "magic bad" (unless it is war magic killing infidels of course. I'm rather sure the orlesian Chantry wasn't keen to have rather harmless stuff arounf casually. Could disrupt their narrative.)
