You call them law makers. It is a universal term for people who create laws. Civilized has no reason to be in the statement. And after you use autism as an insult it is pretty well reasonable to question your intention.
Literally racists called Native Americans (primarily but not exlusivly) savage because they didn't behave and think like "civilized" people.
Indeed civilized is simply a word. But how that word is used is very important. Ass and Hole are just nouns words to. But if I said ass hole to by boss I'd probably be fired.
So are we allowed to use just head canon like you seem to be or do we stick to known hard facts?
What the hell does any of that have to do with anything we've talked about? You realize that that's all coming from you, and not from me, right? I'm not American, have never been to the continent, and have no particular feelings, thoughts or associations whatsoever with or about the Native Americans, and no compunctions about using any completely normal English word I please regardless of whatever part of US history you're currently obsessed with. I'd call it disturbing and offensive that that's the only place your mind goes when you hear the word 'civilized' in a completely innocuous and neutral context spoken by someone you don't know, and that you think your mindless outrage gives you some sort of insane moral right to put them on trial for racism. Or that you think that using autism in a sentence is an insult. Or that you feel I've somehow done or said anything at all to prevent you from thinking or doing whatever you want with or about your own copy of a goddamn RPG. But again, you might just be having a crazy spell or something. Happens to the best of us.

Why would someone use the term civilized lawmakers? I guess to make a distinction between lawmakers, #NotAllLawmakers, to separate from ancient lawmakers or lawmakers that don't understand or misuse/manipulate the law in an uncivil manner. Like in dictatorships or tribal societies. It doesn't hurt to make the distinction, at least. Basically, to establish a basis with which kind of lawmaking we consider as our basis. Basically, not the kind of lawmaking that sentences all offenses or political discourse to the death penalty, like this guy, who inspired the phrase "draconian measures". Not to be confused with the D&D setting of Dragonlance's Draconians. We're not talking about that kind of lawmaking. Maybe it is redundant, but hardly harmful. This goes into another issue of what is civilized? Ancient Greece thought it was civilized. So did Victorian England. Yet by modern UK standards Victorian England would be far from civilized. You would be hard pressed to find any nation were the general concept of civilized has remained the same for hundreds of years. Each era of history is shaped by it's time and at each era they thought they were civilized. Even when different cultures had small to very large differences in what their idea of civilized was. No doubt that Native Americans thought they were civilized even as the European colonist looked at them as nothing more then dirty savages who were ignorant of true civilization.
Early insane asylums were nightmare fuel with all the lobotomies and electroshock therapy and complete isolation of people who most likely were born with some sort of mental disability. It is nightmare fuel from our perspective now. But at the time it was considered the best knowledge and the most advanced medical treatment to help these people. The methods by today's standards were brutal and sadistic but at the time it was though to be the civilized way using the best modern medicine ran by people who legitimately wanted to help these people.
If you want to talk about the past you use terms like "Historically" or "In the past" or you give the vague time frame like "Ancient Greece" or " The 1930's" and if you want to talk about dictators you just say "Dictator"
Civilized has a long long long history of being used to justify the idea that one group is inherently superior to another group because of (arbitrary) reasons. And that because they are not civilized everything they do is wrong and they barely count as people. Wars have been fought, people enslaved and cultures destroyed all because one group thought they were civilized and that they were allowed to enforce that idea on uncivilized people.
So yea when someone uses autistic as an insult and throws civilized into the mix when there are literally hundreds of other options if they want to talk specifically about historical examples it raises a lot of red flags. Because the only time I've personally seen shit like that show up out of the blue is when talking to actual racists ass hats who push the idea that white people are civilized and even after all these years black people are only barely civilized because white people dragged them into it.

Or that you feel I've somehow done or said anything at all to prevent you from thinking or doing whatever you want with or about your own copy of a goddamn RPG. But again, you might just be having a crazy spell or something. Happens to the best of us. Fun fact it was Europeans who used the term savage. As USA was formed from colonist from primarily Europe. Colonial expansion and enforcing of the origin nation's ideas of natives was pretty wide spread no matter what nation was colonizing. Great Britain gets the lion share of this given they were the most wide spread colonizer. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgian_Congo#Social_inequality_and_racial_discrimination Unless you are only like 14 years old you can't be that ignorant of world history. Of the terminology and history of said terminology. Even today China is literally holding people in reduction camps full of human rights abuse so those people will "socially integrate" into Chinese society. Or in other words they want to "civilize" them because they are taking (primarily) ethnic minorities who share a different view then the Chinese government wants and and to forcibly change that view to line up with their idea of "civilized"
In my opinion, deciding that you must personally try to put a stop to that occasional suffering and disaster even at the risk of ending the show for everyone forever because you couldn't be arsed to actually think it through is just madness. It's the kind of autistic mistake the Reapers made except worse, that it's not worth it to let life in the galaxy keep going unless it's somehow made more symmetrical and streamlined and perfect from an omniscient outside perspective, even at the cost of potentially just deleting it entirely by accident.
You used it as an insult to the Reaper's logic. You literally called it autistic.
Now I will repeat since you have yet to awnser it. Am I allowed to use head canon without any basis in the hard facts we are given the way you seem to be using? Because it will free me from the shackles I have been holding myself to as I try to keep to the specific events we are told or shown and only dipping into head canon when absolutely necessary.

The civilizing mission (Spanish: misión civilizadora; Portuguese: Missão civilizadora; French: Mission civilisatrice) is a political rationale for military intervention and for colonization purporting to facilitate the modernization and the Westernization of indigenous peoples, especially in the period from the 15th to the 20th centuries. As a principle of European culture, the term was most prominently used in justifying French[1] colonialism in the late-15th to mid-20th centuries. The civilizing mission was the cultural justification for the colonial exploitation of French Algeria, French West Africa, French Indochina, Portuguese Angola and Portuguese Guinea, Portuguese Mozambique and Portuguese Timor, among other colonies. The civilizing mission also was a popular justification for the British,[2] German,[3][4] and U.S. colonialism. The western European colonial powers claimed that, as Christian nations, they were duty-bound to disseminate Western civilization to what Europeans perceived as the heathen and primitive cultures of the Eastern world. In addition to economic exploitation and imposition of imperialist government, the ideology of the civilizing mission required the cultural assimilation of "primitive peoples", as the nonwhite Other, into the colonial subaltern of eastern Europe.
Unless you are only like 14 years old you can't be that ignorant of world history. Of the terminology and history of said terminology. That's using autism as a context-accurate descriptor, not an insult, and as I already said I know what I'm talking about. Whatever outrage you're getting from that is all you. Yeah, no, this conversation is over. I'd advise you to take it up with a psychiatrist instead. Maybe they can help you with the obvious stress and confusion of charging random words with random historical atrocities and interpreting any possible reference to a particular group as an insult to them, and walking around expecting everyone else in the world to feel beholden to your personal vocabulary minefield. I certainly won't be.

A handful of posts have been removed. mousestalker called for the thread to drop the topic of historical racism (and frankly, all contemporary political discussion being a no-go on this forum is not a new position). So drop the topic of historical racism and all political discussion from this thread, thanks.

The only digression allowed. Mass Effect (1) was for my first game on an Xbox 360 (getting used to a controller was a challenge) so it's fitting I'll be on console again this time.

I'm a bit surprised at how many here are going with Origin for PC, especially since this was controversial back when ME3 came out. Personally I never found Origin bad. People seem to complain about in online a lot. Steam bothered me more back when HL2 first released. I have many of my Bioware games on Origin. For some reason I have ME1 and DA2 on there even though I bought ME1 on Steam and DA2 on physical. I assume it ported them over from my EA account. Odd since I also have ME2 on physical but it doesn't show up on Origin. MEA was only available there at launch and with ME3/DAI I bought those physical even though I knew they would still download from Origin. I was going to stick with Origin but I went with Steam. I'm weird and look forward to putting some ME achievements in my Steam achievements showcase, that was the only reason.

Honestly Origin is the least annoying client for me. Upay being the worst. But of course EA couldn't leave it be and now is developing "EA Desktop" which not only sounds worse but cannot even install properly on my PC.

Hadn't heard of this new program. Looks like they've rebranded again. Went from EA Download Manager to Origin now to EA Desktop.
Thought I'd test it out and I also can't even install it. This had better be fixed before they retire Origin.
Here's the error I'm getting. Do you know if you were getting the same one?
