To me, we are like that secret community that are here and everyone outside is unaware of the existence. I don't see talks about the forums anywhere outside here, plus most of the folks here are from the original one. Some have moved on and such, but back then, even new copies of Bioware's games and their social media talked about the old BSN. It's possible that the concept of the 'forum' is less of a thing than it once was. We are comfortably the second 'Mass Effect forum' on google behind the 'official' EA site (though we are significantly more active). And comfortably the #1 Dragon Age forum. But are 'forums' a little more traditional? That said, only 3% of site visitors have signed up for posting 'membership' so the site has a huge readership who visit the site and enjoy it's shenanigans without commenting and that's fine. Come on 97 percenters...sign up and engage in some shenanigans with us! We need some fresh blood around here. I've enjoyed discussing these games with many of you over the past decade + but it's become too much of the same by the same...if you know what I mean. So come on you young whippersnappers and bring us fresh perspectives.

I'd say that's pretty spot on. Feels like so many communities move to Discord and such these days. Sure, real time chat can be handy at times but it quickly gets to be a mess without structure and it's a pain to find older information compared to a forum with dedicated threads that don't move with quite the same speed. But then again, maybe it's just us old folks who prefer the olden ways?

And there's also a very large ME community on Reddit.

Reddit is basically a forum, but poorly organized, so I don't understand what makes Reddit more popular. Just because people can visit multiple communities with one app, I guess? But the mess that each subreddit turns into is a major downside.
Twitter I will never understand. It's so difficult to go back and find information if I didn't save it the first time.
So yeah, forums make the most sense for me, no contest.

Yeah, I spent way to much time on IRC back in the days so I can see the appeal of Discord but for me that'll always be more of a chat platform, not a place for more lengthy and organized discussions.
Plus forums end up such a resource when needing to look something up.
Reddit is probably the next best thing imho, but it tends to get a bit messy.
Edit: borked the quote

Twitter is just a cesspool of the worst people, but then again, you'll find those on Reddit too. I used to be a mod on a fighting game forum for Mortal Kombat games but that also died out because of Discord and because most pro players left the forum since they became too Hollywood to talk to us peasants lmao. I hope we'll see forums become popular again.

First let me say I am sort of a new player. When the original ME1 was released I bought it on Xbox and got to see Eden Prime before the disc broke. For some reason which I can't remember now I never bothered getting it replaced. Let's fast forward to 2021 and let me say WOW!. I completed the first game and am now on the second game. I've been playing non stop after work since release. The only friends I have now are the Normandy crew and the only girlfriend Liara lol. But seriously the first game is great and so is the second game so far. I don't want to get into too much spoilers so I will keep it vague. I have logged in over 80 hours between both games on STEAM. The first game ran smooth there was only a slight lag at the end of the Exo Gen factory on Feros. I maxed out Paragon, I romanced Liara who is freaking adorable. The graphics look good. I used the default Shepard male. The game was easy even on normal. Without spoiling anything let me just say in the end I chose humanity. But overall great game and one I will cherish for the rest of my life.
ME2, let me just start of by saying I instantly bonded with Jacob we are broskie's. Miranda is hot and powerful. I have played enough of the game I am about halfway through and let me say that I find this game more difficult than the first. It was great seeing old familiar faces. Most of the new companions are great I've recruited them all, the last one was Samara. This series so far has given me a real Farscape vibe. One companion I really wish I got to know better was Kasumi. But she has very little to say. Was she a dlc companion? Also the revelation about the Collectors was shocking to me. Anyway I am currently doing 'The Lair of the Shadow Broker." I still don't trust Cerberus and my Shepard let's it be known whenever the need arises. Again I am playing as a Paragon.
Once I complete all three games I will give a more concise review. Also now I get it when people say "This is Commander Shepard and this is my favorite store."
Edit: Forgot to mention the reason why I take so long with the games is because I am a completionist. For 60 bucks I want to see everything the game has to offer. Well almost everything.

If interested, you can post your playthrough in this thread. Thanks for the heads up. Since I think I am halfway through ME2, once I finish that game I'll post my playthrough for ME3 along with the decisions I made during ME1 and ME2. Oh yeah I forgot to also mention in ME2 there is a funny conversation on Illium between a male Turian and female Quarian. You can tell the Turian has feelings for her. I don't blame him I like Tali she is great. I was glad to see her again in ME2.

I need a bit of help with strategy. I've spent the last day and a half doing all side missions, and scanning almost every planet since I am a completionist. I now decided to do the mission where I have to board a seemingly dead Reaper ship. I've brought Miranda and Mordin, but the ship is crawling with Husks both normal and bloated, there are also ones that explode. I am having trouble with this mission because the Husks run up on Shepard and surround him attacking him. I've got a high melee damage rating but I cannot kill all quick enough. Miranda and Mordin are having their own issues. So what is a good strategy to take out these guys? One of my weaknesses in ME1 were the Husks. I always make two saves before doing a mission. Should I reload and bring someone else? I have all of the companions and they are all loyal.

Many of us have joined other Bethesda related forums.

I usually take Miranda to the Reaper IFF mission but other than that for me Samara is a good choice as is Grunt with the regenerative abilities. But yes that mission can be super, super, super hard. At least for me. Maybe someone who breezes through it can drop suggestions.

What class are you playing and on what difficulty setting? Personally I love husk bowling with Shockwave (Jack, Adept or Vanguard Shepard), though on higher settings husks have a thin layer of armor that needs to be stripped first.

When I have issues with a lot of enemies quickly running up towards me I usually make sure to have a strong biotic with abilities like Shockwave to instantly kill them or push them away. Jack is really good for this and I'd recommend trying her if you're not playing a biotic yourself.
Hope it helps a bit!

I usually take Zaeed and Garrus. They have the incisor weapon to use. Both do a lot of damage with that weapon. The other reason is because there is a spot, the area showing the humans impaled on the spikes, where there is some dialogue to be heard when activated. Garrus and jacob have the best dialogue for that area, though the others have a bit to say. My weakness in ME2 is the scions. Doesn't matter what difficulty I play, I have a hard time with them. One way I make it a bit easier is to use the collector particle beam you get on Horizon. When used on a scion, that scion won't be able to do anything. If you have to back track to get out of range of the scion to deal with husks, then do that. Same with the husks, back track if you have to before being overwhelmed. If you play as an engineer, keep spamming your drone. It will keep the uglies occupied for you to kill them.

I need a bit of help with strategy. I've spent the last day and a half doing all side missions, and scanning almost every planet since I am a completionist. I now decided to do the mission where I have to board a seemingly dead Reaper ship. colfoley: Farscape is my favorite scifi show ever. But yeah I was thinking about using Samara. As for Kasumi I knew she was a dlc companion, because outside of her mission she does not talk. I assume Zaeed is a dlc companion as well? @blast Processor: I am playing as a Soldier on normal difficulty. @quizzybunny: I forgot about Jack she is really good. themikefest: Are the Scion's the big husks? They give me trouble to kill especially when being surrounded by regular Husks, but I will try that weapon. winterking: Okay I'll bring Jack. Thank you everyone for your replies. I will post my results here.

They have a shockwave weapon for a left arm. If far enough back, you can move left or right to avoid the wave. If hit, it knocks out shields which takes a bit of time to regenerate.

I'm still at work but now I know what's been taking away my shields. The thing is I never noticed it was them because I was too busy fighting off the regular Husks. But when I get home in a few hours I will try the tips you guys have provided.

Should I reload and bring someone else? I have all of the companions and they are all loyal. You're default, so a Soldier Shep I take it? Use your Cryo ammo. Husks instantly fall over and die when frozen regardless of remaining health. The pistols and Viper sniper are especially effective in applying it in one shot. Mordin's Cryo Blast has the same effect. Evolve it to the Full spec to kill groups of unarmored husks at a time. His Area Incinerate is also a fantastic power against husks, Armor or not. He's probably the best squadmate for this mission, in general. Try using Grunt as the other squadmate if you're getting swarmed. You can send him out front any time you see husks and he'll draw most of the aggro and group them for your teams AOE powers. He will also sometimes charge and kill any husks he bowls into, sometimes useful if you get trapped and he's nearby. Tali's Combat Drone is also useful for distracting and grouping up husks, as well as distracting the Scions that are frequent in this mission. If you're playing Hardcore or below, Jack has access to Shockwave which is another good power for wiping out groups of husks. Samara and Thane's Throw Field is another good power vs husks, but it has to be fully evolved and used against health to be effective.
