I don't know, On the one hand, I like the art in the trailer (I like From Software's art style in general). On the other hand, it was almost too much magic and bright lights and stuff. Every character seemed to have some beam of light or fire or whatever coming out of their sword/hand/eye/orifice. I like it more if magic is a bit understated, like in LotR. But ok, will still watch this with interest. Haven't really gotten into the Dark Souls games but I feel this might be a little more epic in scope and maybe even a little more mainstream in gameplay (looked more open world-ish than the usual souls games in the trailer. I am sure this would be bad news for souls fans but I'd like it. We'll see.

Apparently the director said there was a character creator, which yes I realize previous soulsborne games have had but I’m hoping this one is a bit more substantial.
I have admittedly completed very few games in this genre, mostly just code vein, though I am determined to finish Bloodborne at some point.
Still, I like what I see and I’m interested by GRRM’s involvement.

So far I liked every From Software's game I've played, so I'm looking forward to this one. It's supposed to be an open world game, which might improve multiplayer a bit. Other than that, it looks a lot like Dark/Demon Souls, which is not a bad thing.

I would love to give this one a try, but I hear it has a very high difficulty level which doesn’t work for me sadly.

I would love to give this one a try, but I hear it has a very high difficulty level which doesn’t work for me sadly. Yeah the graphics seem decent enough but soulsbourne games are known for their difficulty I get frustrated enough coping wit haverage games with my disability sometimes so I don' tthink it's for me. I'd rather save my money and wait until Forbidden West comes to PC. Or at least until the games that are interesting me come such as Forspoken.

Any interest in this? I've never beaten a From game. Perhaps this time... I've seen so many people ardently sing the praises of FromSoft games. I've never played one, to be fair, but watching videos and reading reviews I... don't get it? I fail to see what's so special about them. Is it just the difficulty? I know that for many overcoming challenges is the whole point of gaming. They also strike me as rather ugly. Admittedly, Elden Ring less so than the others. It's not so much a graphics as an art design issue.

Difficult games have never really appealed to me becaus eof my diasbility and I' mnot great with hack and slash games to begin wit hand most |From Softwaer titles look like they're mostly hack and slash. I've heard they have tried to make Elden Ring a little moer forgiving but I still don't think it appeals to me. I'll stick with waiting for Forspoken, Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy thank you. I think they'll appeal to me much more.

I’ve always stayed away from souls games because of the difficulty, but apparently Elden,Ring is the most accessible. So if there was ever a time for me try a souls game it is now. The lack of a quest log is a bit weird to me, but according to souls fan that’s the norm hopefully I can adapt to it.

I told some friends of mine that I'll be trying it out. I've only ever played Demon Souls, though I have played other Souls-like games like Nioh 2 and Code Vein. I'm sure for most Souls fans, this will probably be the pinnacle of gaming for them though; at least for the foreseeable future. I think Jason Schreier even said it was the best game he ever played.

As someone who loves story driven RPGs I just figured the Souls series wasn’t meant for me. Then again I did hear similar things about Dragon Dogma and I ended up loving that game. Maybe I’ll have a good experience with Elden Ring. Which could get me interested in playing other games from the company.

I think for gamers who like strong narratives, they prefer the story elements to be front-facing. Not saying background lore and text can't be interesting, as I play Destiny 2 and it can have some pretty good lore items that you can read up on. I think for people who role-play though, the necessity for some character interaction is much more paramount. That being said, I'm sure most Souls games hit the nail on the head when it comes to ambience.

I've watched some of the DS gameplay years ago and found the game world visually dreary and depressing so it's not the type of game for me despite the RPG elements. I've also watched some Elden Ring gameplay and know it's not for me either, despite it being less dreary than DS.

The lack of a quest log is a bit weird to me, but according to souls fan that’s the norm hopefully I can adapt to it. There is actually guideposting for the first time, which came as a big shock to me (I haven't played it yet personally, but from the info I've gathered.) There is a glowing line that functions as a "critical path indicator." It apparently leads through the fastest path to the ending. However, it offers no further info, so as with other Fromsoft games, solving the mysteries requires the player to investigate the world without any specific guidance. In the balance, you'll be able to decide for yourself when to return to the critical path, and when to explore in a more open-ended way. The difficulty of the games is definitely a big factor, but an often-overlooked theme and element to it is the concept of knowledge as power in the fight for survival. As you learn more about the world and game, you learn specific enemy weaknesses and strengths, and how to counter them. I don't usually succeed in the genre by being skillful, but by adjusting my loadout before each boss fight to pick the weapons and armour that will provide the best bonuses to counter what I'm fighting, and to use combat techniques that exploit the bosses' weaknesses and openings. Skill definitely helps a lot, though (but it can be learned as well, because timing is often intentionally telegraphed.)

Tips for early game.
1. Get the horse. Just follow the glowy line until it leads you to a site of grace. Horse makes everything easier. You'll have to make your way past an open world boss and a few enemies, but you can come back for them later.
2. Your class doesn't matter. Pick whatever will work for you early game. There's enough runes to change your build if you want to do something else.
3. You can change your character's looks eventually. There's a mirror at a keep you'll end up at, and it lets you change everything except starting class and gift.
4. Buy the crafting kit. And a torch. And some recipe books. The first merchant is in the tower, just north of where you start past the tutorial dungeon.
5. You died. Twice. Don't worry about it. There's plenty of runes and places to farm them. Spend them while you've got them, but losing them isn't a big deal.

The most difficult part of the game is the character creator. Even though the player is given the ability to edit your looks later it doesn't help if you're ocd. It hits hard when you first see your character under sexy lighting, and they look decent but afterwards sex offender lighting happens and you're like "oh shit!". This might not say much but ER's cc is an improvement over BB's and DS3's.
