Ghost of Yōtei and Ghost of Tsushima

...and that's the game done.

40 days it kept me occupied (alongside life). Most excellent.

You have to keep in mind this game is a love-letter to Kurosawa films and has all the associated film tropes.

That being said, I really enjoyed the ending myself because it’s a culmination of your journey. For good or ill, the ending was a forgone conclusion ever since the prologue.

Out of all the main quests, this is the best main quest ever made and it's powerful that Jin uses fear against the Mongols and inspire his people. Sucker Punch really outdone themselves!

What is the best way to play the game? By that I mean should I fully complete one tale before moving on to the next, or should I do them piecemeal? For example, the Sensei quest at the beginning of the game has a number of parts to it. Should I complete all those and then do the Lady Masako quests?

Holy Moly!  I never thought I'd see it....This will be an unexpected, surpise impulse-buy for sure!   As soon as the Specs are released I'm going to look into pre-ordering provided that they don't do the "Recommended: 14900K, 64GB DDR5 at 6000, 4080Super, 1200 Watt PSU, 4K Display" route....because then, I will need to wait till at least next year.  I plan on rebuilding once Windows 10 reaches End Of Life and is no longer supported.

But by later this year or early, early next they are releasing a new Socket set (Intel 1851 with a Z890 chipset) AND a new graphics memory type; same  form factor.....GDDR7.   So what is the New Hotness now (ie the 14 series Intel CPUs and the 40 series GPUs) will all be "old tech" by that time.

Yes, I think that would be interesting....events playing out from two different periods in Japanese history. Ive always been very interested in the Samurai, the feudal period etc and the over all history of Japan.

Expecting Ghost to have similar Requirements to the forthcoming Forbidden West, and if this is the case I will certainly buy it as I fully expect to be able to run it reasonably well. Don't know anything about it, but have heard nothing but high praise and excellent things. I will look it up on Youtube today to get an idea of what it's like....then likely put it on my Wishlist and begin the waiting game. Thankfully, this one will not have to wait as long for it because it is due out in May (which ia a nice suprise since I didn't even know about it coming to PC)....Unlike Forbidden West that we have waited years for, and March 21st doesn't seeem to be coming fast enough.....nor is May 16th from what I have seen of Ghost of Tsushima.  It looks like a fantastic game that I am now excited to play.

It's possible.  A big series like SHOGUN would be primed to generate some interest in Samurai-themed stuff, so maybe they might be looking to entice new players and maybe get some people who watched SHOGUN into playing this game on PC if they were not fortunate enough to own a PS5 and play it on Console the first time around.

On the note of tying other forms of media together and boosting sales or promoting material....I still can't think of any good reason why The ART of Jedi Survivor wasn't even published for nearly a year after the release of the game.  I really think they dropped the ball on that one; especially since the first book was timed within a very short window of the release of Fallen Order  and though specific numbers of units sold is not available it is widely believed to have been a very well-received and sought after publication espcially for those who loved the game.   So why didn't Dark Horse follow it up immediately with The Art of Jedi Survivor?   Why wait nearly a year (with several delays and push-backs of the date) before fans can get their hands on a copy of the second book?   I don't think we will ever get an answer to those questions.  But I think the 2nd book would have sold better if it had been published earlier, because the 2nd game eclipsed the first.


But back to the topic of Ghost of Tsushima.  With the critically acclaimed and praised reception of the game world-wide, I've just learned that production of a feature-length movie is going to be made starting very soon.  The announcement of the movie pitch was made in March of 2021- so a few years ago- but delays happened though as of November 2023 a Director has been chosen (Chad Stelinski of JOHN WICK, which I personally didn't care for...But we will see what he does with this) and a script has just been completed.  Casting and Production are due to start soon though I have read on Screenrant that the VA  Daisuke Tsuji who provided the voice, face and motion capture for teh game character has expressed great interest in reprising his role from the game for the movie.

I think this might be a project I would follow with interest; though I think Edward Zwick (director of The Last Samurai, which I thought was a beaitiful, excellent movie) would be another great choice.   Also, Jon Woo, Deborah Chow while not of Japanese ancestry themselves (John Woo is Chinese from Hong Kong) would be good choices for Asian action/period drama.

Getting released on the 16th, two days after Homeworld 3. hmmm...conflict.
