Who wants to bet that the MC is an assassin who hunt human "monsters" instead of "monster monsters"?
edit: I forgot to mention that the School of the Cat trained woman and none-human...

I also get prequel vibes from this.
Not prequel to Geralt's story. Just pre-games lore in the same world.
Speaking of assassins.... Just saw one dead in a pile of hay.
Geralt said, "They never learn." Great little easily missed TW2 easter egg.

If where in full on "speculation from everyone" territory, a cat medallion could mean Ciri. In TW3, she wears one tied into her belt, and her in-game HUD has a cat medallion. Book spoilers. I kept them as vague as I could. At the end of Lady of the Lake, Ciri retrieves three Witcher medallions from the corpse of her nemesis. She gives the Wolf to Geralt, and takes the Cat for herself. The third was maybe a gryphon, poor gryphon, nobody wants it. Haha. Anyway, that's why Ciri wears a cat medallion in TW3.

Never say never, but with Ciri being "quantum", and it not being all that hard to have her die in W3, I dunno... Unless it's set during her time away that isn't covered by the game (eg. when she's reality-hopping). My guess is that it'll be someone else. There are a number of ways they can go with this, both pre- and post-Geralt.

Ciri is a dead end based on TW3, unless they do a prequel...and no thank you to that. They could still do a retcon for female witchers, if they really want a full CC. Either way, I say it's time to move on to a totally new character.

Hopefully this project isn't just CPR scraping the bottom of the barrel. Hopefully. I do think they always had plans to return to the setting, potentially. On a side note, the community manager seemingly ‘confirmed’ that the animal in the mediallion is meant to be a lynx.

I think this announcement exists more to engender positive publicity for the company, and i'm skeptical about the studio's ability to produce a new game with the same level of quality as it's predecessors' due to the majority of the personnel who worked on them jumping ship.

Despite hoping that the game is good, this post speaks my thoughts well. The timing was... convenient. Obfuscation. Their dev team, mostly unknown to me, also will be learning UE5 on the job. Now, sure, anyone (you and me anyone) can play with UE5 and develop with it, for free. So, they won't be totally ignorant of the engine, but it also isn't the in-house engine they built and have documentation and experience for. Maybe most of the RedEngine devs are gone? Maybe their new teams have devs with UE experience. I am saddened by the "death" of RedEngine. This is a casualty of the console wars, and despite my lack of affiliation in this war, I hate the results.

It’s been confirmed that the animal in the medallion is a lynx. I wonder if they’ll just use the animal to indicate the Cat school, or if they’ll go for a non-canonical one.

My guess is non canonical. There's no mention of a Lynx school in either the books or previous games. It's worth noting CDPR has just done the same thing they did with Cyberpunk - announce the game very early, so they can procure new talent for said game. This is unfortunately what they've had to do since so many devs leave after each project. They also lost Bartek Gawel who was crucial for designing the look of all three Witcher games, especially creature designs and character concepts. To me, that's a huge loss. It'll be hard to find someone to fill his shoes.

I think this announcement exists more to engender positive publicity for the company, and i'm skeptical about the studio's ability to produce a new game with the same level of quality as it's predecessors' due to the majority of the personnel who worked on them jumping ship. It could definitely be that. If it is that, though, I think the timing is weird (unless they're using the announcement to helping with recruitment as has been mentioned), because they've just had a hit of good publicity with patch 1.5, right? I had nowhere near the issues that others have had with earlier releases of the game, but even for me, the improvements made by 1.5 are substantial. As for the eventual level of quality of TNW (They said it isn't TW4...but TNW just looks weird), I personally don't need a thing to be better (or even as good) as the 'thing' that preceded it in order to enjoy it. Maybe this is a bad example, but DA2 was not as good as Origins (for me). I still liked it, though. Arkham Knight was not as good as City, but I still really enjoyed it (once it was fixed on PC). So the eventual quality of the game doesn't need to reach the heights of TW3 in order for me to be happy with it. What I am dubious about is whether or not the studio has learned from the CP2077 release. Even the TW3 was released to some complaints regarding technical stability and the infamous 'downgrade'. TNW game releasing in a state that falls between those two would be a bad look.

This is a casualty of the console wars, and despite my lack of affiliation in this war, I hate the results. Not only is engine experience a concern for the new hires and vets, but there's the potential issues with management who should be the biggest concern after CP77 happened. With the RedEngine i think CDPR should have just focused on a PC release for Cyberpunk (wishful thinking) because the consoles are underpowered, and the specs seem more like 1.5s when compared to their previous incarnations. TNW game releasing in a state that falls between those two would be a bad look. To be more specific about the same quality as it's predecessors TW1-3, anything but the state of CP77's launch will do because my heart can't take it again. With DA2 and Arkham Knight it can be argued that they're weaker than their previous instalments but at least they can be considered on the same plateau in terms of their quality at launch.

Yep, there's nothing canon, as far as I'm aware, about the Lynx School. If they'd go for one named as such, it'd be something completely non-canon, regardless if they took inspiration from the fanfiction (which I don't think they would).
While they could've seemingly done that with the Cat School, I guess it's possible they went for a new non-canon school to possibly allow more freedom in the PC with both genders, at least.

If it is based on a fanfic, I will laugh all of my ass off. I have a substantial ass.
However, I do just want to point this out -
A Lynx, however distinct, is just another Cat.

I had a similar thought...until others informed me that there was a Lynx School out there...in fan fiction... Still, if it is a Lynx (as the developers have confirmed), and the Lynx is the symbol for the School of the Cat, then that is fine.

Would make good cat-clan representative. It is all about the fan-fic relation now. Must read, might be the singular moment in fanfic history. If not, imagine the ME3 ending debacle. Then add some exponents.

That CDProjekt might have used the idea for their next game? No idea. The fact that there is a wiki for Witcher fanfictions is weird might I add.
