count Catwell They can’t use Servis for a couple reasons. First and foremost, he isn’t always an agent for the Inquisition. He is either killed by the Inquisitor, imprisoned, or used as either an informant or a smuggler. None of which are good choices for this mission. They went with someone who is always alive and always an agent. Second, they want to show the Inquisition in a good light and Servis would definitely not do a good job at that for the story. Fairbanks meanwhile is pretty universally liked. He also just doesn’t have the skills for it.

I would argue that Crassius dosen't have the skills for it because he stole relics for and from Tevinter and from Corypheus but I see your point for Fairbanks being more trustworthy. And as I said the Inquisition makes some allais and agents during the war table missions in Tevinter. It wouldn't have the same fan reaction as a known character from the fandom but considering Fairbanks' fate it would have been preferable.

1) As I staited in my response to AlleluiaElizabeth there are far more suitable characters like Crassius Servis, who were more suitable for this task than Fairbanks. 1) As I said, it is a matter of trustworthiness. I wouldn't trust Servis to stay loyal if he saw a benefit to himself in switching sides again. Also, as Hanako pointed out, he could be dead already. Nor could they use, say, Dorian because of the connection of the artifact with the Black Divine, as it would totally compromise Dorian's safety as their contact within the Imperium. Hira was clearly providing the mage expertise and I do wonder if the knowledge about the existence of the Circullum came from her. You see, whilst it was originally created by an ancestor of Dorian, it was already in the possession of the Black Divine. We also learn that it had been transferred to the Summer Palace so that Rezaren could study it. Only someone close to the Black Divine would know this, which begs the question, how did Cassandra/Leliana know? Clearly, Hira must had told them but she could only know if she had been in contact with someone in that circle. This is probably what alerted Leliana that all was not as it seemed and so she warned Fairbanks to be wary of betrayal. 2) I have only played the mage origins in DAO as a mage was the more interesting class gamplaywise for me in that expansion and know of the statue you speak of and think there is a difference between the two. There is a superficial difference but essentially it is just a spirit attached to an inanimate object. Technically we didn't "kill" Meredith; in trying to defeat us she drew once too often on the red lyrium and it overwhelmed her. So, whilst the assumption would be it ended her life, it isn't a total surprise that her spirit lived on without her actual body. Remember it is just a lump of red crystal now (as confirmed in a story in Tevinter Nights), no longer even resembling a person in appearance. I must admit to being puzzled how the circullum could restore that to life but then Meredith was able to animate the statues in the Gallows, so I suppose anything is possible. As for her control over the Templars, I think that is through the red lyrium. I imagine that is how Corypheus was able to control the Red Templars, since we now know it is infected with the Blight and he could control blighted creatures, including the Grey Wardens. 3) As I stated in my response post Meredith's madness was centered around her protecting the people against magic and thus I think she would start logically first from within (her homeland) as apposed to goinig on a March against Tevinter. Destroying Tevinter would protect her homeland. Remember in DA2 in Act 3 there was a group, the Resolutionists, causing trouble across the south, who Fenris said were sponsored by Tevinter. In fact, I think the Resolutionists were probably an offshoot of the Venatori. So, it would be apparent that the real problem is not the southern mages but the Imperium, at least so far as the red lyrium Meredith would see it. As I say, she would likely think it was about time that they launched a new Exalted March on the evil empire. And what still baffles me is how a lump of red lirium knows about the existance the circulum. I suppose she would intednd to use it to bind her soul to a moving body but still I don't see where a zealot from the south like her would know of the existance of such a relic when there are magisters in Tevinter that don't know about it and I dount someone from the remaining red templars knew about it either and just told her. This was a gigantic plot hole. As I say above, the only way I think the Inquisition could have learned of it was via Hira and why would she think to share this with Red Templars, who were opposed to the Inquisition? Even if she knew the existence of the Crimson Knight, why would she think it could revive her? I assume Hira has never actually met the Crimson Knight or she would see how impossible it would be. Also, how did she know the Crimson Knight intended launching an Exalted March on Tevinter? Luckily, we don't have to worry too much about these details as the series is being kept ring-fenced from the game. Also, there are plenty of plot-holes in DAI that were never answered but make my head hurt if I think about them too much. Ditto stories from associated media, particularly the comics but also the short stories. My biggest gripe at the present is how the Antaam managed to conquer the entire eastern seaboard of Tevinter with barely any defense being mounted against them, when Tevinter had never not been at war with them and is meant to have a sophisticated intelligence network keeping tabs on them, and then the Antaam moved on into Antiva without prompting an instant Exalted March by the south. Now that is something that they are going to have to explain in game.

Where does it say the southern nations aren’t? Remember this is medieval times so even with messenger ravens it would take a couple weeks for the Chantry to get the message. Then it would take a few weeks or months to mobilize all the forces for the Exalted March. Then a few more weeks or months of actual marching to get to Antiva to help.

Then it would take a few weeks or months to mobilize all the forces for the Exalted March. Then a few more weeks or months of actual marching to get to Antiva to help. I hope this is true but, as I pointed out with Tevinter, the writers seem to ignore inconvenient details in order to tell the narrative they wish to. The Divine certainly wasn't unaware of the danger. At the end of Trespasser, if you worked with the Qun and hand over the organisation to the Divine, they offer to continue working with her and then even suggest she works with them against Tevinter. Now this doesn't square with the story in Tevinter Nights that has a rift in the Qun and Par Vollen not approving the actions of the Antaam. This is why I felt it was probably just a front that Par Vollen were maintaining for strategic reasons. However, it is clear that the Divine must have turned them down or they would not have attacked Antiva. It is possible that the Exalted March may have been delayed by the fact that the Divine wanted Antiva to officially request help. The Crows knew of the threat but may have wanted to maintain the perception that they could deal with it. (Otherwise, she should have received a raven after the events in Tevinter Nights requesting that she start things moving). Of course, if the Antaam have got as far as Vyrantium, then the Divine might prefer to consolidate her forces along the Nevarran border and northern Freemarches, because keeping the "bread basket of Thedas" out of the hands of the Qun might be considered more important the driving them out of Antiva. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how they frame the conflict in game. Also, any notion that we might have had to pick a side between Tevinter and the Qun rather goes out the window when the Qun have already attacked Antiva, unless the player favours the Qun conquering the whole of Thedas.

Also, any notion that we might have had to pick a side between Tevinter and the Qun rather goes out the window when the Qun have already attacked Antiva, unless the player favours the Qun conquering the whole of Thedas. While the south was aware of the danger after Trespasser, remember that most nations don’t have standing armies like countries do today. They can’t have all the forces just waiting for years in case the invasion happens since all those soldiers are needed elsewhere like to farm. As for the Divine turning them down, them invading still works if the Divine publicly “accepted”(after Trespasser none of the three wouldn’t prepare for them breaking it no matter what they said) the peace offer. It’d just be the Qun breaking it. If that is the case that the Divine threw Antiva away as a sacrificial lamb, fuck Vivienne, Cassandra, and especially Leliana. But assuming that’s not the case, I see nothing that suggests Antiva didn’t ask for help or they were sacrificed. Treviso is on the coast on the far side of Antiva from the other nations of Thedas, so it could simply be at the time of the short story the Exalted March either is marching to them or are battling at the front which is further in Antiva. Yeah. All that build up about the grey of their side has been thrown away at this point. At most it’d be us siding with a faction that developed within the Qun that’s more moderate or wants peace. Similar to us probably not supporting Tevinter but factions within like the Lucerni or Viper.

It wouldn't have the same fan reaction as a known character from the fandom but considering Fairbanks' fate it would have been preferable. I would argue that the problem isn´t Fairbanks but there was not need for him to die. Of course he as leader had to go and also as another dual rogue there is no room for him in the team but why not imprison him too?
Speaking of other characters instead why not one of MP characters like Thornton? Or are there any players who deeply care about their fate?
But i know someone better who can easy fit every story because he basically just a name. I am talking about Wilbur "Rector" Quigley who is one of Leliana most trusted agents.
Lace Harding and Charter are characters who are likely to show up in some form in DAD but i can´t say the same thing about Rector. Nobody knows who this guy looks like or what his personality is. A perfect blank slate.

Since Divine Victoria is always an inquisition member who knows about Solas, I suspect she will be hesitant to call an Exalted March against the qunari as long as there is Fen'harel's plotting to deal with, unless it is as an excuse to get her forces into a particular area where his shit is going down.
On the otherhand if the qunari go too far she may have no choice, which could be the in game explanation for why we don't have any large scale inquisition help in DAD in Tevinter. Either they were disbanded and only have a skeleton crew of secret agents or they are with the Divine forces participating in an Exalted March on the qunari in Antiva. (Obviously not relevant if we do have large scale inquisition help)

Against Antiva no less, one of the if not the most devout Andrastian nations in Thedas. To leave them to suffer without response (since she can’t bring up Solas) would basically make her illegitimate to most of Thedas. Good luck getting help with Solas after that.

To leave them to suffer without response (since she can’t bring up Solas) would basically make her illegitimate to most of Thedas. I have suggested on another thread the only possible reason she could have not to call an Exalted March and that would be if she has been assured that the action by the Qunari is specifically part of their plan to deal with Solas. However, this would require a great deal of trust on her part that the Qunari would return home again once Solas is dealt with. This "excuse" would only be valid if the Qunari stick to northern Antiva because their main focus is actually the Arlathan Forest. However, I do think after what happened in Trespasser, the Divine would be very wary of trusting the Qun, whatever reason they gave. Par Vollen might have tried to maintain that the Viddasala's plan had nothing to do with them but I think, rather as with the Arishok in DA2, they only disowned her once her plan had failed. Now the Divine has the evidence that a widespread coup had been plotted against the southern nations and the Qun have actually invaded Antiva, I don't think she will have much trouble persuading the various nations to contribute forces to her Exalted March, whether she still has the Inquisition to call on or not. Of course, Orlais was considerably weakened by their civil war but if the action is set in 9:52, they have had 10 years in which to recover. It is now 20 years since the Blight, so Ferelden should be in better shape to help, whilst the Freemarcher states were unaffected by either of the these problems. The only thing they may be short on is mages but Vivienne has no doubt been rebuilding the Circles and the College of Enchanters ought to see it as the perfect opportunity to boost their standing, so hopefully there will still be enough to make an impact. According to Tevinter Nights, the Mortalitassi are also eager to help against the Qun.

Well that was surprisingly good. Love might be a little bit strong of a term especially since there was some clunkers here and there but it finished up very strong and I really hope there is a season 2. The Good-The Characters. Kind of Dragon Age's bread and butter here but it almost has to be this way and it took me a while to get warmed up to them but I pretty much did at the all. I think in order my favorites would be Qydion (Sp), Miriam, Roland, Lacklon...and really Fairbanks died too early to get too much of an appreciation for him so there is that. -The Antagonists-I get the feeling that this might be one of my hotter takes but I actually reallly liked Ressaran in the end. Part of his presentation was as someone who...ugh genuine is the wrong word...but I think in a way he was genuinely trying to make Tevinter a better place, but under his terms. He came off as being surprisingly charasmatic in his own right and a bit of a cautionary tale of some of the excesses of what is going on here. I think this does bode very well for DAD because he was a lot more in depth then Corpheus for instance. And they also fullfilled the bad ass female warrior trope that they have been continuing. The Combat-A lot more on this later but I do like some of how the combat was presented at least in the sense of each one of the party sort of had their own role and their own place. It just wasn't the Miriam show they felt like a legit party at times. The Use of Blood Magic- May be over played at this point and this could cause issues to but it does just show how these things can sort of lead to even more abuses. Ressaran started off just using a little blood. To a little more. To using the blood of the dead. To actively murdering people. To slashing the neck of a Dragon. And of course this is the slippery slope that would be inherent with such uses of such things. You can theoretically use your own blood to do good magic but if you aquire a taste for it? If you think 'well if I can kill one guy to do even MORE good.' The music-Not to the extent of Trevor Morris or anything but the main titles were pretty superb and a lot of the music in the show did fit the circumstances, with one notable exception where it was the last episode and things were acting all sad but the music sounded a little jaunty.
In the end to I am just surprised at just how Dragon Age this felt which bodes very well both for Dreadwolf and any future seasons of this show. A lot of gray here. A lot of interesting moral conundrums as well. Individualism, warnings about the trappings and dangers of power, and some real blending of the lines. The badThe Combat- While I liked how each one of the companions had something to do and well a lot of the uses of magic come to think of it I didn't like how it was presented overall. It seemed very janky and even video gamey at times, especially for episode 3 which was by far the worse of the series. It was kind of like that janky and shaky cam stuff like what was used for Quantum of Solace, which is usually pretty good for live action but I guess it just doesen't translate for animation. Relies too much on in game knowledge-Big question here which I have been musing 'who is this anime for? Hardcore fans? Or newbies?' Now this isn't really a complaint on my end per se and I even like to an extent that a book or piece of entertainment stays in its own world with a limited amount of explanation or exposition, but I just worry that people will be a little...lost. But eventually I got into it. Ocassionally awkward... Random musings, connections to the future (yes I know this may not relate too much to DA:D but...)Hira and sequel baiting-So it was a little bit interesting to see what happened with her and that she ended up being the traior and not Fairbanks, probably should've seen it coming but well done none the same. ANd they leave her as a wild card as she still sort of won at the end. The Venatori-Big news here is I guess they were around for awhile even before Corypheus which does beg some interesting questions... Meredith-I must say that this was quite the surprise. Nice to hear that they brought her voice actress back given how important that had to be. Honestly this feels like the biggest baiting for DAD, the fact that she is still around in some form (and obviously needing the Circulum), though obviously she doesen't have to be back in DAD but then given the connection to the idol, thus Solas, and her mentioning 'her war' (red lyrium influenced or her own thoughts?) she could have some role to play in some fashion, or its theme setting. Please be a season 2! The marketing-Combat- Just paying attention to the combat for clues on how it might go for Dreadwolf and how they might change things up, yes tv show, but I also thought that they were obviously trying to keep the combat feeling like the games. That being said... Transportation magic-Quite interesting that a couple of potential interesting things to point out. Hira summoned a magic disk to float...and did she teleport away at least a little after getting the Circulum or did she just knock people out? Dissapearing magic/ stealth- Longest running complaint in the series with rogues just being able to dissapear entirely without the aid of magic. Well now we have dissapearing mages and then rogues doing the whole smoke bomb thing to blend in and manuver around. Interesting. Bow wielding warriors- So you had Roland who was presenting as a warrior with sword and shield and everything was using an bow at one point. Some other interesting blendings going on to with that so...blended classes maybe? Warrior and Rogue cross class? Or will warriors get bows back? Or are they taking them away from rogues? Marketing-themes- So in the vein of this being like Dragon Age a lot there was some other things to point out. The biggest thing is here that this theme did have a few quitsential elements from the games in it. Mostly in how they weren't really afraid to pull any punches and that people weren't following their own types. Sympathetic magisters who gave into their own corruption, betryal from lovers who chose their cause over their lovers and being corrupted by their own hate and then people who likewise chose their people over their mission. Plus saving the dragon and the lines at the end was a really nice touch. High end tier 2.

I hope that the prescence of illusion and flying magic indicates they'll be using them in DAD

...no? Spoilers / Piracy / Pointless Crap / Lame threads
- We expect posters to ‘play nice’ so don’t post spoilers in thread titles, and spoiler tag spoilers in discussions not marked specifically for spoiler content.
- Spoilers apply for 1 year after a game launch and 6 months for anything else (TV show, movie, etc.).

Possibly we should change the thread title to include "spoilers" so we don't have to spoiler each individual post.

I just watched it a few days ago. It was ok storywise and I liked some of the characters, like the Qunari mage. I didn't like the anime style, really not my cup of tea, and I really don't click with Miriam. She is too over the top for me. I hope, the next season focusses more on other characters, but seeing that they probably go after her former lover, I fear we will get more of her.

I hope, the next season focusses more on other characters, but seeing that they probably go after her former lover, I fear we will get more of her. I'm hoping that if we get further seasons the writers will use the opportunity to explore the others. After all, Roland had a prior connection with Miriam, so even if she is still the main focus, maybe they will explore that. Also, it made sense giving the focus to Miriam, in view of the connection with the main antagonist in Tevinter but whilst Hira is her former lover, she may not be the main antagonist going forward. If they will be heading to Kirkwall, that could even tie in with Qwydion, if only to bring out the difference between her and the Qunari who were once there with the Arishok. I suggested the reason there wasn't more antagonism to her in Tevinter was that people didn't want to offend her "master" and also, being on the west side of the Imperium and in the Summer Palace of the Divine, they had probably never encountered a hostile Qunari. Kirkwall would be a totally different scenario. I imagine the people there haven't forgotten the Arishok in a hurry. Couple that with the fact that Qwydion is a mage and they might have a fair bit of prejudice to cope with. As for Lacklon, I wouldn't mind betting that he has some dodgy connections in the south, so maybe his past will catch up with him.

It was decent, wasn't falling asleep while watching it. The antagonist was almost interesting until it turned out he was really just an enormous brat who wanted toys to play with. Oh, I also appreciated the amount of gay. The only potentially lore-interesting thing for me was the continued existence of Meredith. I see her motivations addressed in one of two ways: she's alive, hates mages, Tevinter has mages thus Tevinter must die. Ultimately she's there to give game players a recognizable antagonist to root against but the whole Absolution plot will be summarized in a single codex entry.
Alternatively, Meredith is alive and working at the behest of the Evanruis. This idea goes lyrium is alive, lyrium is infected by the Blight, the Blight is ultimately the creation of the trapped Evanuris as a way of influencing the world to help them escape. The Blight is comparatively directionless unless channeled into a particular vessel (ie, the archdemons or, in this case, Meredith) that's why she's alive again. For some reason they're directing her to attack Tevinter. The question is why. Now I dunno, because why would the Evanuris have any kind of particular enmity towards Tevinter at this stage? Is it just because Solas is operating there and they're hoping it'd disrupt his plans? Why not do so more directly? Do the Tevinter know something that might damage them?
And then there's the resurrect dead people McGuffin. The Red Templars seem to want to retrieve it, not destroy it. So whatever Tevinter may or may not have that could be bad for the Evanuris, this isn't it. The last episode does seem to suggest that it could actually work (which itself has a lot of interesting lore implications like: actual afterlife?) BUT the dead person crossing over has to actually want it. The Evanuris would definitely want it.

Alternatively, Meredith is alive and working at the behest of the Evanruis. If not all the Evanuris, it wouldn't surprise me if Flemeth/Mythal was behind it. Also, if my theory is correct that Mythal and Andraste are linked in some way (because of the connection made in WoT2 between some of the detail of the Canticle of Shartan and Fen'Harel's rebellion), then Minrathous may be the key to unlocking the mystery. I think it could be built over a remnant of Arlathan in the Waking World, which in turn was built by Mythal, and the prophesy by Drakon seemed to suggest that the Maker would not be content until the gates of the city were breached. If Meredith still remembers the Chant of Light, she could simply be following this premise. And then there's the resurrect dead people McGuffin. The Red Templars seem to want to retrieve it, not destroy it...............The Evanuris would definitely want it. I think the artifact is probably going to be confined to the series and ultimately destroyed. However, if it isn't then I imagine that many people would want to use it, not just the Evanuris. I actually thought it might be of interest to the Mortalitasi. They have a whole load of preserved dead bodies of Nevarran royalty and heroes. That would make for quite an army. Not to mention the Nevarrans have always had a fixation with dragon hunting. Maybe it was a residual memory that dragons could be used in this way.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I'm glad I made it through the first episode. The first episode didn't feel like Dragon Age. I thought this is going to be ME:A all over again - characters that are overly nice, but edgy, with college level maturity. Also, I despise the found family trope when it feels unearned. At some point I was like "I thought Dragon Age was supposed to be a dark fantasy franchise...". All I had to do was push through to the second episode for everything to make sense. I loved the way they managed to tell an original story while still connecting it to the main plot somehow. I loved seeing Fairbanks again (despite everything), but I'm pretty sure that's a different voice actor? anyways, a shame he died. Qunari lady was bizarre, I didn't like her at first but she became one of my favorites by the end because she was so relatable. I loved the many plot twists, and it was fun guessing what the characters gonna do next. When Qunari lady was defending the elves against the undead I was like "just cast a lightning spell girl I bet it's going to be so satisfying" and then she literally did. I'm so glad they committed to Roland and dwarf person being together and not queerbaiting. I would've been so pissed! I was so happy they kissed in the end. God I love grumpy dwarves. I really hope this show wasn't a one season thing, I'd love to see more of these characters, either in-game or in another season / comic.

Honestly, that kiss at the end caught me completely by surprise.
