I'm not trying to imply the game is bad or anything but if you have some spare time try to see the reviews on Bioware made by their former employees on Glassdoor.ca. I was surprised and not in a positive way. You'll get some insight on why maybe some people are leaving.

@current_music: Another one bites the dust www.hardcoregamer.com/2016/10/31/bioware-producer-cameron-lee-is-leaving-the-company/233263/BioWare has lost Cameron Lee, the lead producer on its upcoming brand new IP.
Cameron Lee, who worked as a producer on Dragon Age: Inquisition, is leaving BioWare. Prior to him leaving, Lee was working as the lead producer on BioWare’s first new IP since Mass Effect. His reasons for leaving the studio are personal and have nothing to do with the game’s development. According to him, the game is still on track and will, ‘change the way people experience BioWare games.’Does not affect MEA but does affect BW in general. P.S. Should not it be some kind of "General BW news" sub-forum? Not about the games, but the company? "who worked as a producer on Dragon Age: Inquisition" - Good riddance "change the way people experience BioWare games" - I'm pretty sure it means even less RPG so... I used to like Cameron's publicity videos (usually demos) for Dragon Age Inquisition because: - He sucked at the gameplay really badly - very entertaining, bears, demons, random mooks, anything would take him down...
- His wonderful straight-faced PR response to the Russian media interviewer who asked him if DAI would have a 'gay toggle'.
It was like Heath Ledger's Joker walking calmly away from an exploding building...

BioWare has something like 800 employees. A 'healthy' staff turnover is around 160/year (15%). Unless people have evidence that turnover is wildly above that, it is not possible to extrapolate an assessment of corporate health on the basis of occasional individual departures, even senior ones. To do so without supplemental evidence is illogical 'tin foil hat' thinking. I do wonder what the industry average is for someone to stay at a single company. I think my viewpoint on the BioWare community is a little more skewered as well since I don't follow other games as closely, but I wonder if people are as quick to claim the sky is falling when a high ranking member of another developer leaves for it has happened at all studios.

The US national median for people staying with their current employer was 4.2 years in January 2016, down from 4.6 in January 2014. I didn't read all the report... Canada keep the statistic differently (that's raw data), same data but by "industry" or by provinces. Note, most publicized departure from BioWare were not Canadians. As for how other communities act about it, I know that Blizzards lost quite a few big names in the last year, but I don't hang out among the Blizzard fandom to know if there was much of a reaction to it. I don't think it got as much "coverage" as BioWare departures though.

Seeing as blizzard makes quite a number of different games compared to bioware. With a lot of fans nostalgic for how things were (even if it was bad)

Blizzard made their name in late 90's early 2000's for exceptional quality games, Starcraft Broodwar is still considered by many as the greatest RTS of all time, while Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction is the grandaddy of all hack and slash RPG's which many tried to emulate and failed. How were the old games bad in any way? Blizzard are more hit (Overwatch) and miss (Diablo 3) these days but back then they were considered gods.

I am very curious about the new IP, and by the sound of it the guy there got a job in States that suited him better. I've never worked anywhere near the entertainment industry, but I am under the impression that it is all extremely competitive and fickle because, well, it's creative jobs and creative jobs are ultra-rare. Frankly, I don't even know what a producer actually does, save for a vague impression it is an important occupation in entertainment industry.

I'm still interested in the game but I know at this point the creative directions are never going to be as fun nor will the games retain that pre-EA spirit.

In 2014, about 6 months before DAI released, he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to renew is working permit for Canada. You need to renew it every years and there is a max of 4 years. People really need to stop trying to find shit where there isn't any.

Montreal is a big city, he could still work for Bioware there. Guess he doesn't want to put up with crunch when he has a child on the way. Good luck Cameron if you by some chance read this. Edmonton isn't exactly small either... His explanation is just weird.

One thing I noticed...if the glassdoor stuff has any truth to it (might be true, might not) the common theme is really poor leadership from the top at the studio.
Perhaps that is why the studio was re-shuffled and now has a new head in charge of the BioWare division is Samantha Ryan.
Curious to see what changes.
