hmm. Something weird is going on. EA has a 10 years exclusive PC/Console SW deal that ends somewhere in 2023. The only thing other companies can publish are mobile games. It's not something LucasFilm can "move away" from like some articles are claiming unless they break/re-open the contract and I suspect that's worth a lots of $$$ and probably not worth it for 2 years and we would have heard of it I think. So options: A) this is actually a mobile game B ) this game isn't meant to release until the contract expire in 2023 and Disney already told EA they wouldn't redo an exclusive licensing deal C) EA is preparing their lawyers as we speak. D) this is an always-online "MMO" as that is another license I believe as well.

With today's news that Ubisoft Massive is making a Star Wars game, it's official that the EA exclusivity arrangement won't be renewed past 2023. Good news for Star Wars fans and probably even for EA, whose current leaders inherited a licensing deal they never wanted.
In the eight years since EA signed the deal, the publisher has released four games (two Battlefronts, Jedi Fallen Order, Squadrons) and canceled at least three (Ragtag, Orca, Viking). Don't think that's quite the decade Frank Gibeau was hoping for.

I think it will be good to have multiple publishers working on Star Wars games. Seemed like EA didn't quite know what to do with the license and it was always weird how little the games tied into the sequel trilogy.

I don't like the look of the Division personally.....so the announcement that Ubisoft has a game in the works is not a confidence booster for me. I've seen gameplay videos of The Division, and personally, I think it looked boring and monotonous though again I'm only basing this statement of opinion of videos I have seen not physical, hands-on gameplay....But again it doesn't fill me with confidence and excitement. I would rather Bioware or CDPR or maybe Naughty Dog...? I dunno. But I'm willing to wait and see.

I am happy that EA will no longer have a Star Wars exclusive licensing deal. However, I have no interest in looter shooters and so am not excited about Star Wars: The Division, if that is what the Ubisoft game turns out to be.

I hate Ubisoft’s whole model of doing things, so I’m not looking forward to whatever it is they come up with. It just seems like trading one shit company for another. I hope it’s good, but my expectations are extremely low outside of a slew of day one microtransactions. Maybe the English will be a supervillain faction in the game, since Ubisoft seems to have a bit of a hate boner for them. That’s the French for ya.

Going by how similar Fenyx Rising and AC Valhalla are...most probably what will happen.

I doubt its going to be anything but the big AAA developers and publishers. Disney is going to want their cut of the profits and I don't think that a smaller studio would be able to make that kind of commitment to Disney. I don't even see a AA level developer being able to do anything, but what feels like standard AAA fare if given the chance for nobody is going to want to take a risk that might cost them big. Disney won't care if you don't break even making the game they will just want their cut of the sales if the estimates I read are semi-accurate its 20%+ and since Star Wars is such a big IP I think it could be pretty high.
