I have not been a fan of Ubisoft since the days of the original Rainbow Six games from the late 1990s, and where they truly lost me was on the first Assassins Creed....within 10 mins I was bored out of my skull, never did get beyond the first city. Then I foolishly bought the second one and was equally bored. I traded them both within two weeks of putchase.
But they did win me back with the 2008 Cell shaded reboot of Prince of Persia and the standalone Forgotten Sands which was a great game for the 360.
Since then though I have not followed them as a studio.....so when I heard they were the develping studio I had my deep reservations.
But after seeing the two Trailers and watching a breakdown of the gsmeplay....I have to admit I am impressed and even excited for it.
I may just need to buy another Art book!

But if they’re making that distinction and claiming that ‘the galaxy’ is open world the same way as Valhalla is open world, I’m going to call BS. So, thinking of how it was done in AC - several probabilities: Segregated open areas, like in ACV we had Norway, Britain, America, etc. Similar how Odyssey had the big map and the Atlantis DLC separate big areas. If so, lol, lol, lol, prepare for 200 GB+ download size if we get more than 2-3 big maps/planets. Valhalla was getting at 150GB at one point, dunno if it got trimmed and optimized later on. We get stuck to one world for the game - unlikely since, cmon, it's Star Wars. No Man Sky space travel from the surface of the planet - to space - to hyperspace. Yeah, I don't think so too. Thinking about it a bit more - you may have hit on to something. You're right - Valhalla wasn't "pure open world", either. Friggen enormous hubs, that each would've been a full open world game on their own (except Vinland) but still hubs. I think there's a chance of some surface to space travel being part of a loading tunnel. Skyhold did this with the hallway from Josephine's office to the War Room (apparently), so this would be a version of that. I'm sure we'll be restricted to a small - used very loosely - section of each planet, but I'm wondering if there might be some 'always online' requirement that would have planet assets streamed to the console/PC? Either that or some black fucking magic asset compression will be required to keep this game under the lol-no threshold.

10 Minute Gameplay showcase from the Ubisoft show today. Gameplay looks like a stealth/third person shooter game, though you can ride around on a speeder as well. You also can order your little pet to press buttons and attack enemies. Yes there are multiple worlds and you can fly the ship, seemingly right out of the atmosphere and into dogfights (but I think that might be deceptive, it seems like they went immediately through clouds into space) .....Ok, wow. That was...quite impressive. *remember Crestwood, remember Crestwood* I may allow myself a little bit of hype on this one.

I however will remain a little bit cautious with my hype level and keep my expectations a little bit i check.
Because I rewatched this demo after seeing it for the first time with friends and I noticed a few things: 1. The playthrough of the stealth/shooter part in the enemy base seemed very scripted, also with all the contextual dialogue commentary and everything. 2. I now believe that from the moment Kay sits down in the pilot chair of her ship to the moment we are in the debris field in space, I don't think the player has any control over the ship. So it's not like you can fly through atmosphere, this is (or at least could easily be) essentially a cutscene. There is no indication that we'll be able to freely land/fly through the atmosphere of a planet. It's all very cleverly disguised to look seamless (which is great in any case) but that's my impression at this point). 3. It's very tough to tell how big the areas on a planet will be from this.
Don't get me wrong, it does look fantastic and even if it is the most constricted game you can make and still show this, it would be fantastic. I am just saying that this is clearly a very carefully choreographed vertical slice and it's easy to read more into it than is actually there to see.
I'll therefore just paraphrase Chancellor Palpatine himself: "We'll follow your progress with great interest."

1. The playthrough of the stealth/shooter part in the enemy base seemed very scripted, also with all the contextual dialogue commentary and everything. What I wish for - different outcomes based on our actions. There is a hint about it when we see the text pop-up how the protagonist lost some Reputation/Friendship with the criminal syndicate she robbed. Probably because she was seen. What we might get - scripted main mission events. The whole thing was probably meant to happen and we can't exit the base without being seen. What this probably was - a vertical slice that won't be the same in the game.

looks good but also potentially scripted. I like the premise playing as an outlaw and we even get space combat.

I'll therefore just paraphrase Chancellor Palpatine himself: "We'll follow your progress with great interest." There is definitely the potential for the stealth section to be scripted, up to and including the (was that a Rodian?) noticing you, but I think I'm going to assume that the notification that we lost rep with that faction is an indication that it is possible to 'win' the stealth section and have them not notice you until we find out more. Similar to how an NPC is exasperated by V not going the stealth route in CP2077. Yep - I always assumed lift-off to space debris was a cutscene of some kind, but space combat is cool on the surface, so I don't mind a little bit of auto-piloting from the game.

Similar to how an NPC is exasperated by V not going the stealth route in CP2077. There is a lot of exasperation in my runs. "Hm, should I waste 5x time with stealth? For your extra 2000 bucks? Nah. I'll loot more from the bodies. And have shooty fun."

Each to their own, I suppose....But I have seen videos of The Division, and to me, neither the graphics or the game play look remotely interesting. In fact, to me (especially the graphics) it looks like a game from the mid to late 90s. As for AC, again, each to their own...That's all I can say.

Thanks for saying that, I bit my tongue. The other thing with The Division one was the game had a half decent story and the atmosphere in NY at night and in the subways was pretty damn well done, playing solo could be quite scary/nerve wracking. It also had the best cover system in a game I have played and the combat I thought was fun and challenging especially playing solo. The enemies, some of the were downright scary (Cleaners) and varied as were the maps. Early on when you first start even having those guys run at you with baseball bats was pretty full on. I thought I had some gameplay videos but can't find them. Here's an online mash up: Heads off to download it, wonder if any of my old online friends still play????

I find more people play Division 2 because there are more people there since Ubisoft is still supporting it while they have pretty much left Division 1 as a legacy title for the few that do play it.

I'll just play some solo missions on Hard to see if I am still any good and can remember stuff. TD2 I just really didn't enjoy half as much and didn't finish it, got to the point of rescuing the Te President who then leaves you in the lurch and had had enough..

The Division 2 I found harder playing solo than TD1 and that for some of the missions was a real struggle and I often got kicked back to a checkpoint for dying. TD2 that happened far more often and even just to the Mooks running around which got tiring. Plus the actual missions seemed harder, the layouts were often more complicated to fight in and the skills (drone in particular) when I was playing had some bugs. That mission with the president was not that hard but I'd gotten invested in the story and the fact he gets airlifted out and just leaves you to fight your way out was frustrating and pissed me off. So I stopped after that.

So I stopped after that. like me and the original BIOSHOCK. Played for three days (nearly straight run over a long weekend), fascinated by the graphics at the time, and the gameplay was something new...something not Jedi Knight (which was the sole game I'd played for the better part of a decade)....I got fairly far in it, then was literally backed into a corner with no health, no ammo for any weapons.... 3 Big Daddies and three Little Sisters barreling down on me. One swipe, and I was done. And this happened over and over....like Groundhog Day. I didn't know what to do, I got so frustrated I quite literally rage quit. Uninstalled the game from my PC, went to a local secondhand gaming store and promptly sold it, taking whatever he would give me for it. I didn't care. Still don't, and to this day I loathe BIOSHOCK with utmost distain.

There won't be free ship flying on the planets. The landing zones are set. That's a little bit of a shame, but understandable. From a tech perspective, having to stream levels with the detail that these worlds will have at speeds a space fighter can fly would be a resource management nightmare, I would have thought. In space, there's just...um...space, and a bit of debris. And from a Star Wars/familiarity perspective, it's not hugely common for us to see space ships flying around the worlds that we see (in film/television, I mean). It's not unheard of...but it's not something that happens lot, either. So, each planet is handcrafted, about the size of 2-3 of AC Odyssey's zones. I wonder if that means the areas which in Odyssey can be fought for in a Conquest battle. Some provinces in Odyssey were quite big, but even the average ones were a good size. So a planet will have a decent area to explore, but also not too big to get annoying. I would assume that means each region, but at this point, who knows? Ubisoft are not known for their restraint when it comes to building big play spaces.

I didn't expect free flying over planets. The gameplay trailer already give the impression of a preset landing/take-off cycle. 2-3 AC: O zones per planet sounds kinda in the realm of what I would have expected. If we get 4-5 planets, we'll have a game pretty much as big as AC: O. If the planets offer good environmental diversity that sounds pretty good to me. Good to hear everything is hand made. With Starfield coming out, I think we'll have our fair share of procedural planets as it is. All in all, everything looks pretty reasonable so far.

Would be nice to see the streaming speeds of current gen engines vs. disks... off topic I know, but its my job to ponder and measure these Anyway, I also would not expect to fly, just fast travel by loading.

You Can Work for and Even Betray Jabba the Hutt in Star Wars Outlawswww.ign.com/articles/you-can-work-for-and-even-betray-jabba-the-hutt-in-star-wars-outlawsDevelopers from Ubisoft Massive and their compatriots over at LucasFilm shared a number of new details today with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con regarding Star Wars: Outlaws and the two locations revealed for the game thus far: the new moon Toshara, and Tatooine. Including, yes, that you can both work for and betray (if you want) Jabba the Hutt. Speaking to IGN, director Julian Gerighty says that Toshara is inspired by the eastern African savannah, and was specifically designed with heroine Kay Vess' speeder (which yes, is at least somewhat customizable) in mind, with lots of wide, open plains. The team even visited Tanzania for inspiration. But, of course, Outlaws will also visit Tatooine. (Like pretty much every other recent Star Wars media entry.) "If you close your eyes and give people a choice to go anywhere in Tatooine?" Gerighty said. "Mos Eisley. And specifically one watering hole in Mos Eisley. The opportunity is that you can see all the nooks and crannies. You can see all the things that are informed by the Lucasfilm archives. "This concept of virtual tourism is important to us. If you’ve ever wondered the distances from the moisture farms to the cantina? We have an experience for you." We'll also be spending a lot of time at Jabba's palace, it sounds like, running missions for the Hutt himself and navigating the criminal underworld he's at the center of. And yes, it's possible not just to work for Jabba, but also to betray him - which of course has its own set of consequences.
