Just hopping in here because well...anticipated this game for YEARS and well, cannot commit to more than my 'casual' game and 'currently committed to this one' so yeah.....
Once I freed myself from Hogwarts I will buy and dive into BG3
If only to support Larian Studios which is one of the few remaining true players for players devs out there *\0//*

Patch is currently being applied to GeForce Now. "It will be ready to play in a few hours." HF#4 is a small patch (or two small patches), does patching on GeForce Now takes more time than on Steam/GOG? They rolled it back because of an issue. Which means I can't play my last save until they until they re-release it...I guess I'm making a new character then.

The past ones all came when I wasn't playing though. But yeah, sounds like this latest patch was causing issues loading saves so it is being rolled back. Guess it is fine I couldn't play in the meantime.

I'm not going to have much time to play over the next week or so, so I think I'm going to make a new character. Look, I know how this sounds, but 'not playing at all' is obviously not an option so playing around with the character creator and redoing an area I've already seen in Early Access and with my first character will probably distract me less from real life business than trying to focus on Act III.
Now the only question is whether I go with my original plan of Drow Warlock/Sorcerer for my next run, or try out a Dark Urge. (I don't want to combine the two since I have a specific backstory in mind for the Drow that very much does not involve being an amnesiac serial killer.) And if Dark Urge, do I go with the default Sorcerer option or switch to something else so I can actually hang out with Gale this time around? In my first run he's presumably still stuck in a wall, since my Dwarf Cleric saw absolutely no reason to mess around with a clearly malfunctioning and probably dangerous magical portal.

Soon they said... I played in the character creator while waiting for HF#4 so I can continue my latest save, but only managed to make more Monk.

People who have actually played the Dark Urge origin: would a Monk Durge make sense, story-wise?
(I don't want spoilers for what your backstory turns out to be and I realise that they can be any class/race combination, I'm just trying to avoid the kind of dissonance you get in the original games when you play a Bhaalspawn who's a Druid/Ranger/Barbarian despite apparently never having been out of Candlekeep in their life.)

Hi! I've bought the game and played a couple of hours of it. It seems promising, but I don't particularly like party-based combat. I mean, I know that genre and played it quite a lot in the 90s but have little desire to return to it. Is there any way around it? I will be changing difficulty to easy today to make combat hopefully go faster, but would love other solutions.

GeForce Now reverted to the hotfix 3 version and I was able to play some tonight.
Also, they posted a new message about addressing the save game problem. So far no issues for me but I've seen plenty of horror stories so I download my recent saves nightly from steam cloud just in case. From what I understand creating a 2nd character makes it much more likely so I am going to play all the way through this character before I make a new one.
"Monitoring - NVIDIA has made changes to our game saves to improve reliability. Most members should not see messages from Steam about “Unable to Sync.” If you continue to experience problems, please send feedback using the exclamation icon in the GeForce NOW app. Aug 16, 2023 - 20:04 PDT"

dazk have you ever played the Knights of the Old Republic games, the original Fallout's, or the first two Baldur's Gate games? The combat is similar to those games you control your parties actions during combat. Your basically doing micromanaging. The thing is for me the companion AI follows my commands. Unlike the KOTOR games which after carefully setting up your ranged companions. When you initiate combat the AI ignores your inputs and runs up on the enemy getting killed and leaving you alone.

Those games got me into Star Wars and sci-fi in general. But yeah BG3 is like the earlier games and NWN combat wise. I like BG3 more than the original campaign in NWN.

Probably AI mods are the way.
But you can skip a lot of the combat in this game if your character is a sweet talker. And some combat you can quickly cheese with barrelmancy. And the few encounters you still get, can be resolved in 2-3 turns even on the Normal difficulty if your group has a decent build.
Combat really isn't taking much of the game time. It feels a bit scary and potentially long at the starting few levels before you get cool toys. But once you get Level 4 and 5, it speeds up a lot and even more when you figure some OP game mechanics.

I couldn't play much last night because we had thunderstorm drama for hours. Luckily the drains in the basement only gurgled and no water came up but it was a bit nerve wracking. So I missed the bad patch, I think. Is it fine to play again?
Well, I assume my issues with the default launcher are unrelated then. I cannot use it anymore. It freezes at 100% loading. So I have to use the non launcher DX11.exe and then it still crashes frequently again. Crashed like 4 times the day before.
Things can only get better for me. If Starfield crashes too then it's my new PC after all. But I wouldn't know what the problem is.
Got 10 more days before my hiking trip. I'm not even at Moonrise Tower yet after 40h,lol.
