Wyll is also interesting but I find his eldritch blast to be weak. I only bring him along until we recruit Karlach. Have you tried it with Repelling Blast? There are a lot of chasms around.... Oh wait I forgot he does have the hellish rebuke ability. As for your question: no i have not tried that ability but will next time I have him in my party.

I'm almost done with the first map in Act 1 on my Half-Orc Oathbreaker. Only a few side story stuff left (everyone favorite auntie and Grymforge area) and then making the big decisions between the cultists or the grove . I haven't decided yet if I was going full evil or just mean to people who pissed me off (mostly the Absolute these days). Shadowheart finally revealed her secrets, which unlocked a bunch of other conversation with her. I'm already dreading the end of her storyline in Act 2. I want to do the "evil" route to experience it, but my heart says nooooooo (for multiple reasons). I'm not that lucky with Astarion thought, he's still at neutral. I made sure to turn him down at every opportunities. I do approve of the tadpole upgrades, my oathbreaker do like power. Just not smarmy high elf. But those convo didn't gain point with him it looks like. Gale likes me thought. He's so easy to please, but I told him I wasn't interested in magic so, well I guess he doesn't want to have conversation with me outside when he needs to be feed .

Warlocks’ are really all about the eldrich blasts which is unique to them, so you’ll probably want to pick the abilities that upgrade them. Both for extra damage based on charisma, and to send enemies flying. After a bit you’ll get two shots and then 3 at high level. You only get a couple of spell slots, but they always cast at max level, and recharge on short rest. Other abilities allow you to cast other some things without using a slot. I find them quite good for exploring, as when you get into an unexpected fight, you can just let rip with with a couple of big spells and a lot of blasts, and refresh on a short rest. Less good if you’re going into what you know is going to be a big fight (unless it’s Wyll related story) The other thing you can do with Wyll is multiclass him. Get him to Level Three for Pact of the Blade and then go into either Paladin or Valor/Swords Bard. (You could also pick some other Pact and make him a Sorcerer or Lore Bard for more spellcasting, but I feel like that suits him less well. He's not the Book of the Frontiers.) I initially only made him a Bard because I needed someone in my party of War Cleric Tav, Karlach, Wyll and Halsin to be able to get a locked door open, but I've been pleasantly surprised by the results. As a Level Five Blade Warlock/Level Six Swords Bard he gets three attack per round, Bardic Inspiration, Song of Rest and a bunch of great utility spells. And he can still use Repelling Blast to attack from range and shove annoying enemies into the void if they're dumb enough to stand near a ledge. He and Karlach and Halsin are my favourite companions so far, probably because I've spent the most time with them. Also enjoying Astarion and Lae'zel a lot. I'm kind of meh about Shadowheart and Gale actively annoys me. (Don't have a firm opinion about Minthara yet, since both of my characters have sided with the Grove so our interactions have been, uh, limited.) Ooo, good idea, I've been vacillating on MCing him ever since i got him cause i'm finding warlock frustrating as a class but he's the right fit for my characters party storywise. I was considering fighter or sorcerer but neither felt quite right, but swords bard is perfect!

Besides Wyll has had so much time on his hands in the camp that surely he has learned to play flute quite well

On a bit of that note, which companion character do you like or use the least? In my opinion all companion characters have a good backstory and motivations, they are well made. I find Wyll the most meh character. But only because I think he's the most useless of the companions. Or maybe I just don't know how to play a Warlock. As a fighter he is worse than Lae'zel, Karlach or Astarion and as a spell caster he is inferior to Gale or my own PC. There isn't much reason to have him around. I personally love warlock, but since my little halfling bard multiclassed into warlock, I don't have Wyll that often in my party. I can relate the least to Halsin, I just don't care much for him. Astarion I can at least actively dislike, but Halsin is just meh. He shouldn't have been made into a companion, he feels flat compared to the rest and you already have a cool druid. I would much rather have seen Helia as a companion, as planned. Minthara I don't care at all for. I won't kill the tieflings for a character, I'm indifferent about. The wellbeing of Alfira, Arabella and her parents (yes, I know) and the three adventures is already more important to me, than Mintharas. My favourite companions are the girls, Karlach, Shadowheart and Lae'zel.

I still haven`t finished the game but i`m at Act 3, my favorite companions are Gale>Shadowheart>Wyll>Karlach, loving their stories and personalities and i`m quite liking Gale`s romance so far. I also like Lae`zel, Astarion and Halsin just not as much as the others so i bring them less with me except for specific quests/moments/fights. As for the other two companions Jaheira and Minsc i don`t really care much about and except for their companion quests they never join my party, unpopular opinion but i never was a fan of them in the original BG games to begin with.

Viconia was "the bad girl you can fix" with a character portrait that was a slightly retouched photo of a pornstar. A DnD boy dream apparently, lol. Minsc is also really well done in BG3. I like his presentation even more than Jaheira's.

All these people going " Karlach is the only sweet/nice companion" and I'm here thinking she act like a jock who just want to start fight because she's bored or doesn't like someone without thinking of consequences. I see good path Shadowheart as way nicer personally. Takes a lot more work to get there than Karlach thought. In fact, I'm starting to think that my first character should have been an evil one. I'm supposed to make my Half-Orc Oathbreaker evil, I even put Evil into my save names to remember it! But I already know I don't have the will to do what it takes to get there. So I'm just going to murder every bad guys instead. I was a Paladin of vengeance, it's not because my oath broke that I can't be vengeful anymore. Hm, Shadowheart comes across as (I don't mean this in a bad way) very much a "nice girl" character–in fact I think that's sort of the key that she's been manipulated. (She's this super nice girl yet every other Sharran you meat is a murderous psychopath). I see the "good path" as more making her be aligned with who she already is, whereas the "bad path" would be making her a true Sharran.

Is it just me, or are the existing guides and whatnot for BG3 just not very good? The act 1 stuff has been around forever, but I can't find a decent map of the Zhentarim Hideout anywhere. Had a little accident with a trap and a bridge, and I was trying to figure out if recovering Astarion's body was even possible.

I've been thinking to make a pt where I don't recruit Astarion, Wyll and Lae'zel at all because they are "easy" to miss.

There is a new mechanic, where when companions are bombed into some pits, [/spoiler] there will be a residue. If you click revive on that, the companion will be alive and well again.

So I've noticed something during my chronic state of restartitis. Lae'zel never actually gives you her name. Not in the intro or when recruited afterwards.

One thing I hope can get improved in the upcoming patches is companion management. There are a few inconveniences and bugs with it, nothing horrible but it can get tedious.
- Would be nice to be able to view/manage inventory, check approval, and level up all companions when I'm at camp, not just the ones in my party - Swap in/out party members without needing to talk to them individually. I do kind of like hearing their dialogues for that but you could still have that play when you select/deselect on a screen like in DAO. - The hide helmet setting for companions currently resets when they are swapped out of the party

Please just let me see what everyone has in their packs while we're in camp, Larian, rather than trying to make me remember which person I foisted all my junk onto five hours ago when Tav got incumbered. And don't get me started on the necessity of popping back to camp and going into two different conversation interfaces every time I want to switch somebody out. It really shows that in the planning stages we were meant to be locked to just three companions from Act II onwards.

Hit Level 10 (Pal 6/Sor 4) after dipping a toe in Rivington yesterday. Picked up Polearm Mastery (which they'll hopefully fix in the next patch...). Had a good laugh when I nabbed the Mother Of All Halberds.

I picked up the game yesterday, and after waiting 3 hours for the download, I figured I'd quickly create my character before I went to bed. It took me an hour. And I didn't even notice the time going by Here she is: I played for about 3 hours today and probably will play a little bit more, but I really don't want to stop at all. I have to be a semi-responsible adult, though, I guess. So far, I've recruited Shadowheart and Wyll, and met Lae'zel, but haven't seen her since the fight on the Nautiloid. Also, I saw this when I leveled up today. RUDE.
