Baldur's Gate III - Non Spoiler Edition

The one that progresses Gale's romance is another scene in Act 2. Don't know if you got that one yet, but you'd know it if you had it.

In my game, Wyll's scene came after Gale's. But seeing as it was even available at all, maybe romance locking here is less strict than in DAI.

@quizzybunny Reminds me of my dilemma with Shadowheart and Karliah. Had to choose which one to pursue since I liked them both. It was hard but in the end I chose Karliah despite still liking Shadowheart. Luckily Shadowheart had no hard feelings and took it pretty well. Next playthrough I am only romancing Shadowheart lol.

Another game that gave me similar trouble was Dragon Age: Origins where I had to choose between Morrigan and Leliana, and don't get me started on the Mass Effect Trilogy where I had to choose between Ashley, Liara, Miranda, and Jack.

Had to take a little break in the middle of Act 3, but I finally completed the game last night. What an incredible experience - definitely among the top games I've ever played! I have so many ideas for future playthroughs, but I might try out Starfield first and come back.

New armour:

I was never really able to get into Divinity Original Sin or Original Sin 2 try as I might which has put me off BG3 that and for some reason BG3 just hasn't really done anything for me which is probably why I'm managed to stay pretty spoiler free so far as story and that goes. From those who have played BG3 what's it like?

I have tried around 50ish hours of D:OS2 Definitive Edition.  I haven't finished it, and at this point, I think I'm unlikely to.  Certainly not for a long time, if ever.  It isn't a bad game.  Quite the opposite, in fact.  I just can't get past the presentation of it.  It looks like a game that should have released in 2001.  Great 'emergent gameplay', great story, fantastic world building.  A lot to love, and if you like turn based, then so much the better.

BG3 I have over 150 hours already, not yet at Act 2 of my 2nd run.  The same devs have applied largely the same techniques and styles and ideas to the DnD setting.  But, like most things, presentation matters.  BG3 more accurately resembles a turn based version of Dragon Age Origins with a couple (of dozen) fresh coats of paint.  It is actually quite a beautiful game.  The cinematic scenes are very well done, accounting for the different possible statures of the custom characters and really add to the story telling.

So if you liked DAO, and think you're willing to give turn based a try - get it.  Maybe wait for a sale if you aren't certain.  Combat can take a long time, and unlike Origins where the dice rolled silently in the background, the dice are very explicit in BG3.  But there is always the Easy setting if you find it too hard.  My first run was on Balanced (normal) and I almost became a '2nd try expert' at encounters.  For everything above standard mooks, my party would wipe on the first time trying a new combat encounter.  The second time, I'd usually wipe the floor with them.

Plus, there's a lot to explore and uncover that isn't combat.  So fantastic companions and some meaty choices to be made.

Totally fair.  It was something that I wrestled with for a while (because I'd tried D:OS2 and been somewhat lukewarm on it).  I got over it with BG3.  But if if is something you can't see yourself liking, then my advice is to stay away    at least until it is on crazy - virtually giving it away - discount.  There is a lot of combat.  And everyone gets their turn.
