Post what you've done in the game.
An excellent thread, nice one by the OP. But please exercise care and caution as people will progress at different speeds. (no-one will thank you for posting spoilers un-tagged) So please spoiler tag and say at which stage of the game you are at (also non-spoilery). Thanks. SofaJockey

I've played for a couple hours. The game looks good. Met a few characters from HZD when back in Meridian.

I can't play the game because I don't have a PS5 and I will have to wait for it to come to PC...if it even does, or ever does....So for now I am very interested in at least seeing how the story progresses. I am sure that by the time I get to play it on PC (if I ever do) I will have forgotten pretty much everything I have watched, and as I can't play it myself...I am not concerned about "spoilers* per se.
After all....I watched videos of Zero Dawn for years before it came out to PC in 2020 or whenever, and yet when I finally got to play it myself....Everything felt brand new to me because I was experiencing it for myself rather than just vicariously through a video.
I truly do hope it comes to PC as Zero Dawn has with a Complete Edition; and I hope it doesnt take a decade to do it.

Rumour has it Forbidden West will be cvoming PC's way next year but it'sw jus ta rumour there aren't any facts yet. Besides atm it ma yactually be a good idea to wait as I hear it's quite buggy compared with Zero Dawn.

There will be a third installment. It will probably take another two, three years for the third.

15 hours in and I reached another critical point in the Utaru area. The arrival of Tilda and the fight to escape. Awesome. And used all my health and potions, squeaked by with a sliver of life.
I hear it's quite buggy compared with Zero Dawn. Whoever is calling HFW 'buggy' is seriously deluded. I know what a buggy game looks like (EA/BioWare) and this is certainly not that.

Well bugs can be fixed so it's not really a huge issue for me as for example MEA runs prefectly for me now whereas it didn't when it first came out. With MEA though I could see a good game underneath all the bugs a game I knew I would enjoy which was why I stayed patient as I knew given enough time Bioware would fix it Personally when it comes to games I look at gameplay story and graphics if they seem to be working together well like they do in most games I can overlook bugs as I know hat at the very leas tmost of the bad ones ge tfixed. I don't count bugs as most games can be buggy when they firs trelease and most of the bad ones are fixed over time. I've heard Dying light 2 for example is extremely buggy too atm.

Not really a fan of only being able to have two traps active at one time, I assume this is upgradeable, but why tho? If someone wants to spam a bunch of traps, let them. I cleared my first cauldron, I got a warning about being under leveled but went in anyway. It was my first encounter with Widemaws, I forget what the scan said there weak to, I'm like, "I don't even know what that is." I was concerned at first, but melee-ing them until candy came out worked pretty well.

I'm with on that.
My favorite strategy against the rock-breakers was to surround myself with a bunch of explosives and wait for them to attack me. 2 or 3 times and they were dead.
There's a skill that let you increase number of traps by 1, maybe there's one more. And I think some outfits have perks to increase the number as well, but I'm not sure.

Loving the music again! The track that played when climbing the first tower was awesome! I actually managed to die during the long winded tutorial... On Normal. Ugh. Game told me to use my spear to bash enemies but I didn't see another one was around the corner and they killed me, lol. It's much easier to stealth kill this early in the game, it seems. Going to meet old friends now. Btw, texture pop-ins in cutscenes on the Pro are REALLY distracting. Does it happen on PS5 as well? Oddly during normal gameplay there's almost none. But for some reason in the cutscenes it's every few seconds. Other than that the game is running fine and it looks gorgeous.

Is the first area on the map set in Zion National Park? I was there on vacation twice and it looks a lot like it. Makes me all nostalgic and happy walking around thinking about the awesome time I had there. Edit: Yup, it is. Found a data pad confirming it.

I didn't know there was a minigame like Gwent! Immersive version of chess. And I SUCK AT IT. Never learned chess. And apparently I would have been too stupid for it anyway. Took me about an hour to complete the first Npc's tutorial and real matches. The last one where you actually win a piece took like 10 attempts. Ugh. Embarrassing. OK, I sucked at Gwent too at first and later I crushed it and got bored even on Hard. But this seems way too complex for me already.
Loving having such a thing to do on the side though!!!
Met more old friends. Made me smile. Haven't gotten far from the starting point though. Did some side quests. Did my first ruin puzzle and then got confused about the passcode because I didn't read until the very end where it's written! I thought the gibberish symbols further up were the code and then when the numbers keypad unlocked I got stumped. I'm officially too dumb for this game, hahaha.
The characters all have great voice acting and the facial animations are really great this time around. I just wish Aloy would actually look people in the eyes. The way her eyes dark around makes her look autistic and it's a bit distracting. I wonder if they'll patch that...

I climbed Angel's Landing, Twilight's Landing in the game, which was such a delight to me because I kept seeing the real life hike in front of my eyes, remembering the rush I felt on the somewhat dangerous steel rope part that gives so many people bad vertigo. Climbing with Aloy was free of danger this time but it was awesome and rewarding too. I was stupidly happy to be back there in virtual reality. The view from up there can't compare to the real thing but the landscape in the game is still stunning.
I've now done everything I can before the embassy, I believe. Labored for my second strike piece. Took me way too long to beat the NPC 3 times. I'm really not good at this. But hopefully it will be similar to Gwent in the sense that gaining better pieces increases chances of success dramatically.
Starting to really enjoy the game. All the new skill are overfly complicated for me so far. Will have to see if using them is necessary later on. So far I'm just silent strike killing everything, lol. So there's no need for fancy shit yet.
Does it make sense to buy all green weapons in the first area? I've skipped a few so far. Haven't bought the warrior bow yet or the rope caster. Was very confused to find the sharpshot bow to have only 6 arrows, for real?! Why??
I have upgraded all my green gear as much as I can. Does that make sense? Or should I save the materials for when I have better gear? I like that coils and weaves can be reused from the get go. If I remember correctly that perk had to be unlocked later in in HZD.

Kappa Neko, upgrading Green gear is good. The costs are easy to manage, and you can squeeze a lot of life out of those items. I finally had to buy a few Blue items in my early 20s, but not because the Greens were totally sucking. Rather, I really wanted access to more elemental damage like Purgewater. I ended up needing the above-mentioned Purgewater pretty much immediately after buying these, so it was a good choice. Even on Very Hard, my Greens are hanging on, even if just barely. I'm starting to earn Purples via quests, now, so I'm feeling good about not wasting resources on weapons I didn't need. I'm neither reading nor posting spoilers just yet. I will say this: the Cauldrons in FW are epic. They're each a substantial and unique experience thus far. I like it.

I'm loving the game just as much as the first one! The presentation and narrative are top notch again. And some of the art design is gorgeous beyond words, like Plainsong. Just WOW!
The first story "arena" with Varl and Zo I struggled with badly. On Normal, ugh. Third try was success at last. The smaller machines just wouldn't go down. Was a complete desperate frenzy.
Then the first real cauldron (Mu?) was easy as pie. A bunch of blast traps and they fell within seconds. That was funny!
Meanwhile I still get almost killed by the burrowers constantly when I get cocky. I'm not strong enough yet to bash everything to death with the spear. Little bastards. Those kangaroo machines are the worst so far, though. Something like 15h in I'm not even in the Forbidden West yet. But tomorrow I'll finally head there.
Btw, I'm unlocking skills in almost every category. Does it make more sense to specialize in one skill tree??
One thing about the gameplay that's starting to really annoy me is how so many collectibles and puzzle ruins I cannot do yet because I'm missing the right tools. So I waste time going there only to learn it's yet another thing I can't do. Like the metal flowers. Or just breathing underwater longer. I don't remember the last game being this annoying about clearing the map...
So I guess it makes sense to progress the main story a little faster so I can unlock stuff I need for exploration.

So this is probably a handy tip for anymore else as "slow" as me. When doing a melee combo that requires a "pause", you need to focus on the flash of Aloy's spear. Say the combo is R1 R1 R1 Pause R1, you have to time that last R1 with the flash of the spear, because that is the exact length of the pause required for the combo, otherwise the combo breaks.
