Haha. Here is my encounter with a buggy Tideripper, I even slowed down the GIF speed. I'm hiding behind a wall, and I see the Tideripper's head appear over the top, frantically looking back and worth like a mother that's lost its young. I started laughing in the middle of the fight, it must've really wanted Aloy dead. LOL.

I only got to "play" for an hour today, and even that was spread across two hours by constant interruptions. Ugh. It's frustrating, given that I'm at the very end of the game.
So, it looks like I'll begin tomorrow by launching the final story quest.
My PS4 PRO just shut down last night while I was saving. Fortunately, everything seems okay today. The console attributed the shutdown to a software error. Usually, the intrinsic software is called firmware, so I'm not sure if it means a PS4 issue or a HFW issue. I hope it's the last time that happens. I was concerned that my PS4 had just died. I'm ready to get a PS5, but they're still nearly impossible to get. Moreover, I'd hate to potentially lose all my save data for my many games.
EDIT: A quick Google search revealed that this crash isn't unique with HFW. It's happened to enough people that I found some thorough troubleshooting on a tech site.
I've definitely experienced some bugs with this game, but most have been the typical stuff one encounters in a vast open world. I hope I don't experience the crash again. It's a hard shutdown.

Remember this guy from Dawn? I'm 2 skill points short of having every skill filled. There's nothing left that I know of that will give me 2 skill points Near 96% completion. The only thing left is finish upgrading everything Here's a helpful tip. If you want to take down a machine easily, I use the death-seekers shadow bow with shock. Obviously any bow, or any other weapon with shock will work. Shock the machine, then run up to it for a critical strike. Repeat if necessary

It happened to me and a couple of other people. What helped was doing the last arena challenge again. I received 4 skill points, and I didn't even have to complete it in time.

I completed the game a couple of hours ago. It was good. I enjoyed it beginning to end.
I still have stuff to complete. I'm only 80% on trophies. In addition to the Pits, Hunting Grounds, and Strike, I also have the "kill all combat machines" left to achieve. I can only guess that one must kill every variant and/or an Apex version of each since I've definitely destroyed multiple units of each combat machine.
Rather than chasing that trophy right away, I'll finish the Arena challenges, of which I have two more tiers, and then hunt for materials for upgrades. If any machine variants remain at that point, I'll be a bit surprised.
I'm looking forward to continuing my gameplay. I still have a few aquatic areas to go back and explore, in addition to all the stuff above. I also have two Kratos idols to recover to get that face paint.

The crafting grind in this game is brutal, I wasn't going to bother with armor and just use different level 1 gear for the aesthetics, but now that I've played around with the Oseram Artificer, I kinda want to see if I can take down a Level 60 Apex Fireclaw with just melee and resonate blasts. I've been having difficulty getting the sac webbing off them, and a wise person once said, "I can bludgeon pretty hard!" Haha. So maybe I'll upgrade the Arificer a few times. I've upgraded some of my weapons, the Elite Ropecaster for one. Also, I'm still using my blue Spinthorn because of the ammo crafting requirements of the Vindicator, which seems to be the purple version of the Spinthorn.

Also, I'm still using my blue Spinthorn because of the ammo crafting requirements of the Vindicator, which seems to be the purple version of the Spinthorn. I only fully upgraded my green/common gear, as they're super cheap and easy. I never upgraded any blue/rare beyond one level. I did the same for purples/very rares, nothing past one upgrade. I will upgrade some Very Rares at some point since the Legendaries alone don't cover every need. For my Legendaries, I have one level on my Thunder Warrior Armor and three on my Death-Seeker's Shadow hunter bow. I have a very long way to go. 😆 I imagine that upgrading gear will stretch across a lot of play and even into NG+. The Oseram Artificer armor is a melee beast. We still have to beware the crazy close-range attacks that most big machines have, but we can definitely bring good melee damage with that armor. Bad news for me on trophies. I checked my progress, and I definitely defeated every combat machine in the game no less than three times, and dozens of times in some cases. The only such machines not listed in my progress chart are the three "secret" machines. Obviously, I definitely defeated those as well. So, it looks like I got victimized by a bug on that trophy. I probably won't be getting it on this playthrough. That sort of diminished my urgency to wrap up the other stuff to get my Platinum. I am still eager to do the races and pit fights, but not particularly interested in Strike.

If they're the ones I believe, one of them can be fought in the arena. The other two can be done if you have a save before the endgame that you can load. If you choose to do this, scan those machines again so they count towards your completion percentage.

Also, if you scan a machine and then die, you have to scan it again. I'm pretty sure I made that mistake with the first Grimhorn encounter.

Had my first quest bug last night. An enemy machine for the scripted encounter involving clamberjaws kept glitching into the ground. Couldn't kill it. Left the area, returned. Two are alive again. Just as I'm about to kill the second one, it glitches again. I run away and back AGAIN and this time I managed to kill both. Well, extra loot this way, lol.
I'm level 49 now and just about to head to San Francisco. Is the level cap still 50?? In that case I won't be able to get all skills. Not even close. And being max level 2/3 into the story seems wrong too, lol. Maybe I've done most sidequests already though. I'm sure high level now that I have no use for all these blue weapons as a reward! Haha.
I've fully upgraded half of my pouches. But what's up with light arrows? According to my pouch, I should be able to carry 54 now or something but it's still at 24 after all this time. Is that a bug or is that ammo for a lower tier bow??
Does it make sense to buy the two legendary outfits from the stitcher in Thornmarsh? I would need to get some machine parts first so I'm wondering if that makes sense or if I should unlock stuff via challenges?
I don't think I'll get even one purple outfit or weapoon fully upgraded. The grind is just too much... And what's the point to get it done at the end of the game? Especially in regard to legendary gear. So I'll either have to finish the game without perfect gear or I'll have to do it now before I progress more in the story. Leaning towards fuck it.
I made one fight needlessly difficult last night because I didn't realize that overwritten machines get full health again. I do it so little that I didn't notice. And I ignored that skill tree completely until recently. So I was going the quest where at the end you have to fight a thunderjaw AND a tremortusk who start out injured. So I thought it would be clever to overwrite the tremortusk so it fights the thunderjaw. Thunderjaw went down. But then I thought I could just overwrite the tremortusk again and kill it before the time is up. But it was at full health again and the time ran out faster this time. And it turned into a really annoying long fight. I got my ass blasted so much I almost didn't make it. I hate this thing. The AOE attacks are insane. Ugh.
Feels like Aloy kicked ass with traps in the 20s but since levels are higher, I get my ass kicked again on friggin Normal! In some ways she's really strong now but some big enemies take forever to take down despite shooting at their weak spots a lot. And their attack damage is just crazy.
I'm still having the time of my life, don't get me wrong. It's just a weird progression feel for me.

I'm now replaying Horizon Zero Dawn and got to a quest involving a Tenakth warrior. I had forgotten the tribe was already introduced in the first game, even if it's just a single member.

I did the Legendary challenge in the arena to get 4 more skill points. I then played a few more challenges raising the number of points to 7. I just went through all challenges earlier gaining 16 skill points. I currently have 23 extra skill points. It makes sense if you want to raise your completion percentage. Doing that plus completing any task rewarding the player with a legendary item to raise your percentage.

For those interested, this video helped me raise my completion percentage. I raised my percentage from 95.78 to 98.32
Someone completed the game under 2.5 hours. Very impressive.

Is that a bug or is that ammo for a lower tier bow?? I believe its just the basic Light Hunter Arrows that have that capacity. The uncommon Hunter Bows and a few Rare's use them, the rest all use Advanced Hunter Arrows. I went to Chainscrape to buy a uncommon Bow to check, and the Hunter goods people where talking about the Vegas light show, whether it was a tall tale or not. Aloy informed them that its legit. Haha. I wasn't expecting dialogue about that all the way back in the beginning area. Does it make sense to buy the two legendary outfits from the stitcher in Thornmarsh? I would need to get some machine parts first so I'm wondering if that makes sense or if I should unlock stuff via challenges? The only legendary I have is the Oseram one for helping all the salvagers. I don't really like the look, not really a fan of most Oseram armors, but its the best for melee. I like to get into wrestling matches with Frostclaws. Haha. I haven't bought either Thornmarsh one, the perks don't really interest me, and aesthetically there both kinda meh to me, at least from the image anyway. I keep telling myself I'm not going to upgrade anymore, but there is usually some perk or addition arrow type that I can't pass up. I guess I'll just play it by ear, but yeah, I doubt I'll be maxing anything of the Epic and Legendary tiers out, other than maybe one or two items.

Kappa Neko, I'd not stress getting any non-Legendary gear upgraded. Save your time and resources. Even upgrading your Legendary gear will extend into the post-game. They're powerful enough that they're by far the best items in the game, even with no upgrades. There are 9 Legendary weapons: 4 from the Arena 1 for completing all races 1 for mastering all hunting grounds 1 for completing a very late game quest in SF 1 for turning in all the Ornaments 1 for completing all rebel camps There are 3 Legendary armors at the Arena; others can be bought in Thornmarsh, and the Oseram Artificer can be gotten by completing all Salvage Contracts. My initial playstyle is always ranged, and the best Legendary Hunter armor is the Nora Thunder Warrior. You can get it pretty quickly from the Arena. The three bows at the Arena will make the game suddenly feel easy. They do way more damage. The superior ammo can more or less instantly apply elemental effects. I sniped an Apex Fireclaw in one-shot earlier, and an Apex Slitherfang in three shots. (More on these later.) I'd strongly recommend getting the two hunter bows and the Sharpshot bow ASAP. I Platinumed the game today. Killing the secret machines in the Arena made the "killed all combat machines" pop. I completed the Arena and bought all the stock. I got Full Stripes at all of the Hunting Grounds. I defeated The Enduring. (The guy in Thornmarsh was tougher, in my opinion.) I won all races and was doubly, maybe even triply pleased! I have purchased nearly every obtainable armor. If there's ever transmog, I'm covered. More importantly, I've begun upgrading particular gear to unlock their weaves for universal use. I read over my skills and gear with the goal of nailing down a tactic that might make my big game hunting go faster. I came up with the following: Tenakth Recon Armor (purple, buy in Thornmarsh) * this gives a damage bonus for mounted archer Stalker Stealth Valor Surge (can't recall the actual name) * gives a 200% damage bonus for being hidden Forgefall Sharpshot Bow (from the Arena) * this thing does a ton of damage * coils for long range damage I triggered my Valor Surge, hopped onto my Clawstrider, and shot the tailend of an Apex Scorcher for 5800+ damage. One-shot kill. I tried the same on a Slitherfang but must've missed the weak point. It still did around 1800 damage. Two more shots dropped it. I had to load an earlier save after the Slitherfang, though. My 35000 shards had suddenly dropped to zero! WTF?!? I loaded a save from about 15 minutes earlier and fortunately avoided what would've been a save-destroying bug for me. I've completed every quest in the game and still lack 10 skill points. I know playing more Strike could get me more. It sounds like replaying some Arena challeges would get me there pretty quickly, and I'd prefer the latter.

My last post was overly long, so I'm doing a follow-up for a few thoughts. On PS4 PRO, the textures are loading in very slowly and look like ass since the last patch. It's bad enough that it's killing my immersion. I hope they can fix that. I finally felt the increase in difficulty over Zero Dawn while playing the Arena. Many of those fights were surprisingly easy. The last one, though, was rough. Apex Thunderjaw + Apex Scorcher. Fffuuu... That Scorcher one-shot killed me several times. I killed it pretty quickly on my fourth (I think?) try, and the Thunderjaw was as good as dead at that point. This fight felt harder on Very Hard than anything on Ultra Hard in Zero Dawn. Maybe it was simply the combo of machines and the cluttered, close-quarters terrain, but it was rough. The Melee Pit instructions are terrible. They present chained combos as separate button sequences, but they actually must be blended together. I was getting pretty frustrated until I figured out what needed to be done. For example, the game will say: Melee Combo A: R1+R1+R1 Power Attack B: Hold R1 Melee Combo C: R1+ hold R2 and shoot What really needs to be done is: R1+R1+HoldR1+R1+hold R2 and shoot I'm not sure why they failed so hard at writing these instructions. Thankfully, YouTube is always an option. The Guantlet Races: I loved how these ended. I finally put a bit of effort into playing these as intended and found they weren't hard. I got kind of excited by Blood Teeth's words after my third win. Then, I lost my first attempt to defeat him in the desert. (I lost thrice, actually.) His words then got my Hype Intensifying. Then, I beat him and got to meet him. I was very pleased. I really want NG+ for this game. I'll probably do what themikefest is doing and maintain a "NG+ Save" while also playing again through the story. If the second playthrough proves super efficient, it may even supercede the original in terms of being my favored NG+ import. Whatever the case, I definitely want to play this story again.

Really QTE's in this day and age, that's enough to make me not play that whole part of the game when it comes out on PC and Arenas in general I hate. Odyssey was OK once you'd finished the game and had good gear and abilities but sounds like there are good weapons you'd want to get early on.

Odyssey was OK once you'd finished the game and had good gear and abilities but sounds like there are good weapons you'd want to get early on. No QTEs. Each line of those button sequences are melee combos. (For context, these are training fights in the Melee Pits, human vs human. The Arena is Aloy versus machines.) They're trying to tell you that you need to chain the moves together, but they do a crappy job. You need to quite literally blend them. If the last attack of Sequence A requires you to press R1, but the first attack of Sequence B requires your to hold R1, then you need to Hold R1 at the end of Sequence A in order to seamlessly blend the moves into one another. I feel like this should be easy to properly explain and display in-game, but their instructions are crappy. Still, I figured it out, so no big deal. It is worth noting that melee combat in Forbidden West is pretty awesome. I've completed the game once now on Very Hard and feel like I'm just beginning to get good at it. There's so much depth all around. I love it. Edit: dazk, there are also all kinds of toggles in the options to fine-tune the experience. You can set a "difficulty" for Aloy's health, enemy health, weapon wheel time dilation, and pretty much anything you can imagine. The closest thing to a QTE is events during the races, but you can just turn the QTEs to "auto" so that they resolve themselves cinematically. At present, there's no trophy for difficulty settings. I gather online that many people are simply dropping the difficulty to "Story" for the Arena, Melee Pits, and Hunting Grounds. It's a valid way to get through them if you just want the gear and experience but not the timed challenges. I might do that in my next new game.

I'll also add to the above posts by saying how easy the Hunting Grounds are in Forbidden West.
In Zero Dawn, there were some challenges that required perfect execution in order to get a Blazing Sun. In FW, getting Full Stripes (the best rating) was pretty easy for every single challenge.
I rarely attempt every challenge upon first discovering each Hunting Ground. I do any easy ones and then return to mop up the others once my gear and/or health bar is improved.
There were a lot of very easy Full Stripes in FW. The "sneaky/stealthy" trials near Plainsong, for instance, could have easily been done by Aloy in the Daunt (the starting zone). Those are easy medals that can be turned in at the Arena for some decent mid-game gear.
Conversely, I didn't even bother with one of the challenges in the Daunt until much later. I thought, "I'll get gear later that will make this trivially easy." Sure enough, I eventually had a bow that could one-shot electrocute machines. I pick my battles, balancing gains versus annoyance. Eventually, everything will be easy.

Really QTE's in this day and age, that's enough to make me not play that whole part of the game when it comes out on PC and Arenas in general I hate.
