So Bioware's lack of success in the past few years is because of "brigading"? Never said that. We're talking about people brigading DA subreddits and Youtube channels/videos. The likes/dislikes cannot be taken at face value, nor can reddit or Youtube comments, because a significant number of the dislikes/critics are culture war tourists with no intention of buying the game under any circumstances, who see whatever the newest Bioware game happens to be as a political pawn in their stupid crusade against representation and inclusion. Pretending that's not a thing is some heavy duty copium, if anything is. And maybe I'm being petty (Tom Petty), but the fact that these little wieners are so angry the gameplay trailer was good and the reception so positive only makes it that much sweeter: I wouldn't have it any other way. Ok I get that. Brigading bothers you. Thats fine. I dont care either way. I may bark or I may cheer depending on what I see, but at the end of the day I make my opinion on what i see and not what others see or say. And this type of attitude " but the fact that these little wieners are so angry the gameplay trailer was good and the reception so positive only makes it that much sweeter: I wouldn't have it any other way. " is seen on both sides of the spectrum and to me I just dismiss it out of hand. Its harmful to the conversation and nothing good comes out of it. I just want good games and dont care whatever politics are in it as long as its done in service of narrative and good storytelling and never in sacrifice of it. What matters to me is Good Product = Good Sales = Healthy Company = + Good Products. Baldurs Gate 3 is as "woke" as you want it to be, it's all there. Yet that game is the most award winning game ever, with crazy sales and praise all around. All they had to do was deliver a good product. In conclusion: I want DAV to be good, damn i really want it to be good. And if it is good, brigading wont hurt it at all in terms of sales. If its not good, then its Biowares fault and no one elses.

I guess this could fit in multiple threads. But the gameplay trailer is really what made these questions and thoughts come to life. I am sure some of this has been posted before. But I honestly havent read the hundreds of posts since Sunday afternoons reveal.
With a limit to only 2 other companions. I am worried about the lack harder difficulties as we knew them. Reason I believe that is because a nightmare type difficulty should require a tank type class. And not being able to control companion skills would also be a handicap in my opinion for higher diffculties. And even if we discover that a tank type class would be required for a nightmare type difficulty. That would mean either our toons would have to be the tank. Or we would be stuck using Davrin or Taash the whole game. With the remaining 5 or 6 being swapped with the only remaining position in our party. Which would limit the great party banter that Bioware is known for.
Which brings me to my next point. If they implement the type of system they had in DA:I with class restricted objects. Think mage barriers, locked doors, walls to bash. That would really limit the party comp even more so.
3rd and final thing. I know I can't judge a book by its cover. But what I have seen of the combat is a real disappointment. At least compared to other DA games. Most likely can't really pause since we can't issue commands. Only tell them to use abilities ala Mass Effect. Although the combat looks great for an action game. Its just not what I expected.
Final thoughts. Without more information, and only judging what I have seen. This will be a day one purchase for me as I am firmly on the hype train. But I might just end up playing on the easiest difficulty.

Which would limit the great party banter that Bioware is known for. Active healing is back and an higher level screenshot of the command wheel showed both Harding and Bellara with active ability icons that point to healing spells so it seems you can build the companions to fill the role you need them to be...since both are technically bow Rogues. Rogue can be duelist again (i.e. DA2 tanky rogue) and the description of mage mention close quarter combat which usually means tanky too
Dodge and block/parry are more important, classes has access to both at level 1 and block/parry is for both melee and ranged. And with the indicators and the pausing wheel, you should be able to time those.
Combos are coming back via status effects/detonators and might prove useful to debuff enemies again.
Which brings me to my next point. If they implement the type of system they had in DA:I with class restricted objects. Think mage barriers, locked doors, walls to bash. The command wheel has an attack command versus the selected enemy (individual party member or both at the same time), it's not just for telling them to use a specific ability.

Has anyone said anything about those enemy targeting arrow tracers that show up? As in it seems to show you being targeted and then the targeting changes to bigger fonts and yellow color and such if they are indeed about to attack. Is that something you can turn off I hope?

You’re not reading the posts you're responding to, i also never said that either. In fact I said the opposite, I said I wouldn't have it any other way. What i did say was that brigading means that eg dislike ratio are not especially meaningful.

So they might have gone back to that tone system, where auto-dialogues is based on the tones you picked earlier (or highest depending). I hope not. I hated it in DA 2. I still remember one playthrough where my Hawke was an aggressive asshole to most people, but he was kind to his companions. Then one of the auto-dialogue scenes start and my Hawke is suddenly screaming at Isabela for no reason. Just because the game checked my stats and saw that I picked more agressive options than the other ones. Totally ignoring how that Hawke treated his companions up to that point, making him act entirely out of character.

YouTuber Luke Stephens was at the 1h presentation of the gameplay and he says in a video released a couple hours ago that the creative director told them all those combat indicators can be turned off if you don't want to see them.

There's a typo there mate. Its 112000. Or more accurate is right now at 70k vs 113k. So the dislike brigade continues eh? I'll never understand the mentality that goes into these hate campaigns. They really don't have anything more interesting to do than railing against developers and fellow gamers whom they don't even know. tempest238, I disagree with the idea that higher difficulty requires a "tank". All difficult gameplay requires is classes/builds with the tools necessary to surmount the challenges presented. I'm a big fan of D&D, and in the current edition of that game the concept of a "tank" is dated and out-of-touch. Anyone who optimizes and has 5e system mastery will tell you that spellcasters are king and ranged combat is far superior to melee. 5e D&D simply doesn't require or even encourage "tanks". They're a concept that will lead a player to building an ineffective, disappointing character in most 5e games, precisely because the game doesn't cater to that niche. Similarly, and perhaps more apt a comparison, would be Mass Effect. Each game is different, but did we ever need a tank? Nope. We just need to neutralize threats and kill enemies efficiently. Tanks were a concept that developed in old MMORPGs, but those games bear little resemblance to modern, fast-paced ARPGs. If a party of Mages or Rogues can kill enemies more efficiently than the enemies kill the party, then they'll be more than viable. I'm sure there will be options for tank-like characters because people enjoy playing them; but it's pretty easy to design a game in which every character type has survivability tools built into its chassis. EDIT: I'm personally hoping that we get some tools to play a CQC Mage. I really like playing with hyper-aggressive tactics. If we get the tools to play a spellcasting Mage who can mix it up in crowds of enemies, I'll be very happy. I hope you end up loving the game, whatever it ends up being. I think it's surprised all of us in some ways. I'm definitely curious about the other issues you raised regarding environmental obstacles that required a specific type of character. As fun as those are, they could feel like handcuffs, at times. To draw on D&D 5e again, one thing I like about it is that it decoupled adventuring skills, such as lockpicking, from classes. Any person can learn to use "thieves tools"; it's not exclusive to Rogues. I'm not saying that we won't need DAV Rogues to open locks, but it might not be terrible if we didn't. I fully expect that we will still need Rogues to pick locks, Warriors to break stuff, and Mages to "magic" stuff. I do hope it's implemented in a way that I don't feel handcuffed into a specific party profile.

Starting a replay of DAO sure refresh memories of stuff I forgot about. It's been a while since I played a mage and I forgot a bunch of stuff. Like the Spirit of Sloth (and him saying not all "demons are *Demons*"). I remember people arguing Ismael was new in saying he was a spirit instead of a demon, but nah, you get that the first few minutes of DAO Mage origin.
Also, I wonder what kinda of stuff they put in the game secret concept art books, because while I call her an Hindu Goddess, Half-Moon 4 arms + tentacles design actually seems to be based on this (a different head piece, which by the way exist among the 7 we have):

Ghil'dirthalen has covered this far better then I can.

I watched the gameplay trailer again today. My feelings were mostly the same: I hope some of the status displays, like health bars and ranged attack notifications, can be made less conspicuous. I don't love the art style, but that's set in stone and won't prevent me from enjoying the game. Even without seeing a powerful protagonist or party in play, it seems clear that I'll have a lot of fun with the combat. It looks like it will be a fun blend of past DA and Mass Effect. I love power combos, optimizing character builds, etc... and that's all part of this game. I hope we get to see a higher level party at work, and a bit of gameplay from each of the three classes. The art style is growing on me after watching the gameplay again. There are things I don't like about it but, like you, it won't prevent me from enjoying the game. I can understand if BioWare wanted to give DAVe a more distinct look as we know all the previous games look different. I'm with you on combat. I'm going to have a helluva good time, I know that already, based on what was shown. The part of me that loves DA is starting to wake up and realize the sequel I've been waiting for is real and finally coming out.

I'm pretty sure that was to teach you to be constantly vigilant and not take what's presented to you as fact, because demons will shape themselves to try and deceive you in order to posses you, which is what happens in the Mage origin with the Pride demon. You constantly think you're following the Rage demon and blindly trust Mouse, when in fact he was the bigger danger.

Has the voice actor for the Rook we were shown been revealed? There is something very familiar about it, but I keep coming up empty when I reach for a name, or even another character they have portrayed.

I get some Jon Snow vibes, but I doubt it's his actor But the voice sounds good and I'm excited to see who else has been casted.

In one of the other threads rapscallionessa wondered if it was Male Eivor - Magnus Bruun I thought it sounded familiar and was wondering who it was too, and it does sound like him.

"More" importantly are the 2 new male/female VA's going to doing the inquisitor's voice? It probably won't bother me personally, but I could definitely see some people around here getting salty.

Very salty. I don’t think BioWare would miss the chance to hire AWR or Sumalee Montano again, though. Can’t remember the names of the male Inquisitors, but I am sure that whichever Inquisitor we have, the voice actor will be the same as in Inquisition.

I would certainly be salty. Love AWR as my canon Inquisitor.

Would you say Dead Sea level of saltiness? Well, it wouldn’t be as bad as showing the Warden with a voice but doing it ‘wrong’…but it’d be close.
