Am I crazy or did Solas not give any antagonist vibes? I feel like he might actually be on our side against the Evanuris? Explains the "Veil-jumpers" siding with us given that they're probably Solas' elves. Maker, that would be a DREAM COME TRUE!

But i don´t think that Solas like Varric will survive this game.

There was a notification that popped up that said that companions' powers were locked at that portion of the game. Thanks but this wouldn´t change the impression that Veilguard from gameplay is more like Mass Effect than previous Dragon Age. Aka we can´t move to Harding or Neve and play as one of them to attack Enemy B and then Enemy C. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the combat either, but unfortunately it seems to always have been the end goal of the series starting from DA2. I just wish the DA team took notes from other action games than ME because there just doesn't seem to be a lot of complexity in the actions to me - at least, so far.

But i don´t think that Solas like Varric will survive this game. It could mean anything. Solas could just be setting aside his ambitions until this threat is dealt with, or maybe he could be convinced to stop or even killed at the end as the ultimate boss if you didn't get his "approval" up enough or something. It just doesn't feel like he's being set up as the primary antagonist. Might explain the name change too. Perhaps they thought the name didn't accurately reflect the story beats.

Well, I saw it. Doesn't feel remotely like Dragon Age. Too much wrong here. Start with the third person hack and slash dodge be quick... Just no. Writing feels off as well. Why would you not brief a guy before you head into something like this? Why explain things on the fly? Nah. I'm sorry, but that's hard no from me. Not when we have Kingdom Come coming this year.
Guess it's been good, but I suppose time's come to go. I'm no longer "a real fan" according to some of y'all anyway.

Perhaps it even comes down to Solas having to make the ultimate sacrifice himself to stop his fellow gods once and for all. Redemption arc kinda thing. Incredibly tearful at the end with Inquisitor there to witness or even being the influence TO sacrifice, reversing course from bringing back the old world that’s now totally screwed everything and instead try to save what’s left. Atone for shizz.

Seesh! That was an AMAZING GAMEPLAY TRAILER! If you had doubts about the game after watching the previous trailer, then you gotta watch this one! There's so much tension and possible foreshadowing here and it's only the beginning of the game! Love how fast and fluid combat was, loved that I can switch between a bow and dual wielding swords seamlessly. Hopefully I can have my Rook be a sarcastic jokester ala Hawke from DA2. But man Varric is taking a beating in this footage (WHY BIANCA?!). Don't worry Solas, I'm coming for that egghead of yours.

You can feel what you want but this is just Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition combat but in a more fluid way. The main class being played was rogue. It has always been this animated and flashy. I imagine the as a mage you'll probably do the Fade Step (?) I think it was called if you wanna dodge abilities and use main staff attack with an ability loadout. Kinda like Inquisition. I agree it's not Dragon Age Origins but it hasnt been that since.... Origins, though we are getting origins!

Looks good. They really fucked up with that Trailer from Sunday but I am glad the actual game seems to look much better. Artstyle and story are very much in keeping with Inquisition, which is great as far as I am concerned. Some DA veterans may not be too happy that the combat has now gone full on Mass Effect but I am happy about it. IN DA:I particularly, I felt the pausable tactical combat didn't really do it for me. It was almost MMO-ish and not very engaging. This now looks like your average action RPG. I didn't see anything special or particularly innovative here but hey, as long as it's competently done, I am ok. Never played DA for the combat gameplay anyway and for me, an action RPG is actually what I like a bit better. So all good. Happy to check it out on release now.

Combat looks similar to DAI to me (rogue played quite like that), but without the tactical cam , a wheel instead and we can swap weapons (or at least use a few arrows since it was on cooldown and you had 8).
The game look so good visually, but intro mission usually have a lot more scripted events and beautifying. Also, I found it funny when the bridge explored early on, so DAI of them...
I knew Solas was going to f***-up leading to something worst. I didn't expect the MC helping. This wouldn't have happened had he not made his ritual right on top where he probably stashed two of the Evanuris (he was probably milking them for power actually, at least that's my theory for now).

Rook made a rookie mistake. By stopping a god, he unleashed two (even worse) gods. Classic story of unintended consequences. Double the fun now. TWO SCOOPS!!!

And if anyone is saying that about real fans like you, its dumb. Real fans aren't fans who automatically like everything. There's room for reasonable and good faith disagreement among "real" fans.

Well, any hope I had that BioWare would course correct after DAI just died with that gameplay reveal.
I don’t how the rest of you are not seeing what I’m seeing, but that was godawful. Wooden dialogue, phoned-in voice acting, terrible combat … it’s hard to pick out what was the worst aspect.
I’m done. Maybe I’ll play this game when it hits GamePass or when it goes on sale, but as far as I’m concerned, this is like someone puppeting the corpse of an old friend. It’s familiar, yet totally alien.
Farewell, Dragon Age.

It feels so premature to judge upon a game when it's clearly just the prologue. The meatier parts, in all gameplay, story and dialogues came after the first intro credits of DAI.

I'm strangling Solas either way. How dumb can you be to tell your BFFs you're going to end the world, refuse any "let's find other solution pal", then go destroy the world because "people die all the time wtv" This is going to get Varric killed, and I'm not having it. While I'm quite sure something happens to Varric (not sure if dies or gets sucked into the Fade or smth), someone on Twitter brought an interesting point - that perhaps Varric here is a stand-in for Inquisitor

Keeping that in mind, I thought the gameplay reveal was nothing but positives. Aside from the Solas breaking Bianca part- eggboi is going to pay for that (do you KNOW how much time I spent upgrading that stupid crossbow for Varric in DAI?!)

It doesn’t take much to say it’s combat will be just like inquisition tbh. Some of us just find it uninteresting. For me, uninteresting gameplay just means the rest of the game has to work harder to bring it up. No one can tell me this won’t be another hack and slash dragon age with some ability button presses mashed into the middle of combat. It’ll look flashy but it’s just one of the most boring ways to have combat in a game for me. Not the end all be all as I tolerated it with DA2 and inquisition and I’ll tolerate it here but the combat won’t be something I’ll rave about.

I like this, this would be a satisfying conclusion to his story. The more I think on it, though possibly cliche, I think it would be a fitting end for him given everything. He created the Veil and locked away the Evanuris because he felt it was the only way to make things better for their world/free his people, etc. Then they started leaking out anyway as Archdemons and stuff slowly starts getting warped/screwed up. He becomes hellbent on trying to fix things again (in his viewpoint of "fixing"), despite the fact that his fix attempts led to not great things before. It now goes even more wrong, ironically with Rook and party kinda becoming a bit like Solas themselves by causing a bigger catastrophe while trying to prevent the current one, and now it really comes down to the brass tacks: Solas has tried everything possible to do his thing while staying alive. Being left with no choice here BUT self-sacrifice, it's an interesting full circle. In DA:I during I think it was the Fade sequence? Where there were graves listing each of the companions' biggest fears. Solas's biggest fear was dying alone. Which is an interesting thought for a God to have, really. To have to face that fear now, potentially, and the player gets to decide - have/let/make him die alone for causing all this mess. Or Inquisitor there - as an old friend or an old lover - as the motivation to make the sacrifice and, in that moment, he's not alone... he has him/her in his sight/presence one final time. "Do not weep, Vhenan, I am at peace with what must be done. And because of you, at least I am not alone to face my end..."

Like a few other people, I wonder why they changed the demon design, but at the same time they can technically take any appearances and some of them might be new types.
Like the flaming "dogs", Rage can't have gone from a mud monster from FF to flaming barghests. Right?

The attack sequences we saw I imagine are just the auto attacking done in a more stylistic way. DA2 I recall had you basically doing animated auto attack loops such as the daggers swapping which hand was stabbing and the two handed one ending with a sweep. Staves did the left shot, right shot, spin shot, and then the ground slam big hit flourish.
So what we saw was just basically auto attacks ending with a flourish (rogue does the jump with double cross-cut stab) with the occasional bow (you couldn't do this in DAI so it's cool to see weapon loadouts) and special abilities, and unlike DA2 you have an inbuilt movement ability (in DAI you had to invest in the ability like Fade Step). The main character (rogue) used shadow step. Neve floated backwards with a Fade-step like ability. I imagine everyone will have the default dodge ability that lets you sidestep/strafe.
I'm curious if our allies will have to be ordered around after the tutorial so they don't KO due to bad positioning, or if they're basically invulnerable and acting as support units with the main character doing most of the damage/surviving.
