Davrin left his clan to seek adventure, and would rather make history than study it and therefore join the Grey Warden just like that. Who does that ? lol. Didn't they say that there is a bit of friction between him and Bellara because she doesn't approve of him abandoning his clan in that way or did I just imagine that? I haven't seen anywhere that information. The only thing I know for sure from source Shinobi, it's that (his words) : << Davrin (Grey Warden companion) is stern, thoughtful and considerate but also has a soft side. He has a strong sense of pride and maybe a rivalry with certain other companions. He is also a dedicated and gifted monster hunter >>So yeah, I could totally imagine him having arguments with Bellara over that or some other matters. But also with the other companions xD. Davrin is obviously a cocky guy and won't be afraid of assert himself and and give his opinions whether it pleases other folks or not.

He could also have gotten into a fight with darkspawn while on a hunting trip (maybe even hunting darkspawn? an ogre?) and needed to become a Grey Warden to survive being blighted. That is true but if it was the case then I think it must have been after he left the clan looking for adventure. The description definitely seems to suggest that he chose the life of a monster hunter over that of his role in the clan. If he had simply been infected on a hunting trip for the Dalish then it wasn't his choice to leave them and become a Warden and he didn't do it because life wasn't exciting enough in the clan. It is possible they wanted to explore the motivations of an individual for joining the Wardens when there wasn't an imminent Blight and they weren't forced by circumstances, either to avoid death from infection by the blight or falling foul of the law. Rainier joined originally because he was on the run and Blackwall conscripted him but had yet to put him through the Joining (then Blackwall was killed so he assumed his identity). Evka joined out of gratitude for the Warden who saved her life, Antoine joined because he became infected in order to save his life. We have yet to encounter a Warden whose story we know in detail, who joined simply because they wanted to. (The nearest I suppose would be Alistair but his circumstances were complicated by his royal connection). After all, in DAA the only one who really volunteered to join was Mahairi and she didn't survive the Joining. (Oghran's motives for joining up were hardly honourable as he was basically trying to escape his marriage). So, I am intrigued to discover exactly what motivated him to choose the Wardens as opposed to any other faction he could have joined. Incidentally, I assume he was too young to sign on with the Inquisition when that was operational or may be we will discover that he did.

Just a quick reminder picture of how Assan's daddy gave his life, together with Garahel, defeating the Arch-demon Andoral in the 4th Blight. He really has an illustrious parentage. Come to think of it, another partnership between and elf and a griffon, with the elf being somewhat charismatic and charming, yet absolutely committed to his role as a Warden.

Do you suppose these are the Hossberg Wetlands? Given how early in development we got this, I assume it's... mostly assets they've had, put together to make a clip. However, given that the landscape we see looks very barren, it's either a wholly desertified spot of Anderfels or somewhere on Silent Plains.

However, given that the landscape we see looks very barren, it's either a wholly desertified spot of Anderfels or somewhere on Silent Plains. Unless you think we are looking at multiple mirages that seems like water with those turtle creatures. To my mind wetlands basically means anything with a lot of water. It could be salt flats and thus the area is so saline nothing else grows and, if they are still in the game, these turtle creatures possibly live off perhaps lichens or something else that can survive there (I mean how do nugs survive in the Deep Roads?). People questioned at the time if it was in the Anderfels because the legs seemed to belong to a Grey Warden. Then it was revealed recently there was a location by the name of Hossberg wetlands and I immediately thought of this picture. There is a big expanse of water in the Anderfels near Hossburg which could be a very shallow inner sea or large lake, so perhaps this is it. If it is a large enough area perhaps not all looks as barren as this. To give an example in the real world, here are the Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia in the rainy season:

If those were wetlands, even if barren ones due to water being salty or effects of the Blight, we'd still see effects of so much standing water on surrounding soil.

IMO the reflections we see look more like mirages than water, particularly because everything else looks so dry. If it is an old inland sea surrounded by a largely arid landscape, it could look like that around the edge. The expanse of water in the Anderfels could date back to a time before it was blighted and the area even originally got its name at that time. However, take a look at another scene from the Aral Sea which used to be much bigger but use of the water for human projects resulted in this. Still, we obviously see things differently and it might turn out the area of the Hossberg wetlands is more like salt marsh or swampy (re-purposing resources from the Fallow Mire) and not a lifeless wasteland at all like the rest of the Anderfels.

Yet there's still grass - even despite the area around the Aral sea being arid and even poisoned. There's no grass or any other vegetation to be seen anywhere in that screenshot. It looks completely barren.

Yes, he really sounded good. Assan is also really cute and does interact with conversations. There were also some interesting tits bits about Assan and what sort of speech Davrin prefers. This was useful to know because if Rook adopts one mode of speech and attitude throughout not every companion is going to appreciate it and it is helpful to pay attention to their attitude and mode of speech and adjust your own accordingly. I like the fact that you are rewarded for being observant and empathetic.

I already knew I'd love Assan. But his lopsided ears are the cutest thing I've seen today. He so much takes after his dad, who also had crooked ears and a brindled colour. Crookytail is reborn! I can see why Garahel picked him out and bonded with him. He makes me smile every time I see him. If anything happens to him, Bioware... Yes, I'm hoping he and Davrin don't have such a tragic end as the heroes of the 4th Blight.

So Taash fights breathes fire, and Davrin abilities are also fire related. Is the warrior companions going to be locked in to mainly using fire-abilities?

Latest episode of Vows and Vengence really piqued my interest. Kind of surprising the twist they are going for with him here and he might just work out right now. So in my potential 'A' team roster/ companions my first Rook is going to use I think he is sitting pretty solidly in fourth right now.

I'm pleasantly surprised that they didn't shy away from Davrin's Dalish roots. It would've been easy to make Bellara the dalishy elf, and have Davrin be averse to it all together given what little we know about how he left his clan. Still, I notice in both the podcast and one of the IGN gameplay spoilers, that Davrin seems to kinda support Solas to some degree. He even refers to the Dread Wolf as a God of Rebellion, which I believe would be a newish moniker for as he's typically referred to as a trickster God. Considering Davrin rebelled from tradition by leaving his clan for adventure, wouldn't be surprised if he respect Solas in some way in the game.

Considering Davrin rebelled from tradition by leaving his clan for adventure, wouldn't be surprised if he respect Solas in some way in the game. It is the fact that he does refer to him in that way that has me thinking there may be more to Davrin than initially appears (see my comments on the Podcast thread). That doesn't mean he isn't trustworthy, just that his background may be something more than he initially reveals. Perhaps his clan wasn't actually Dalish and he left them because they were isolationist rather than wanting to interact with the world. I'm sure they said there was some friction between him and Bellara at some point. This could be because she doesn't approve of him leaving his clan, or his attitude towards Solas or she thinks his claims to be Dalish are suspect. It will be interesting to discover which is the case.

I was re-watching the panel with some of the companions from earlier and was reminded of the fact that Zach Mendez, the VA for Lucanis, also did some Mocap work for Assan. They even showed the footage of him crouching as the griffon as he interacts with Davrin and Rook. So, when people say how adorable Assan is that is partly down to Zach. If you don't want to hug his dark, mysterious assassin, you can always opt for the lop eared griffon instead.
