Lol, what if it's the opposite - Manfred does most of the talking for Emmrich We've already heard Emmrich speaking for himself but I do imagine there could be some hilarious scenes with Manfred making his views known in rather unsubtle ways through his gestures, groans and other sound effects.

My comment is supposed to be mostly humorous and while I don't necessarily believe it will happen, nevertheless hearing Emmrich speaking for himself (in a trailer where each companion has a line so we know how they sound) does not indicate how much he talks in game.

Just finished Down Among the Dead Man and obviously without knowing the context of who he was, I didn't know Emmrich was in it quite so much. But he does seem like a vaguely kind old gentleman with some flamboyance to him, kind of Wynn like but maybe a bit more bold with his humor. Also I can see what his VA meant about him being so kind and fasscinated by the dead.
Not really the intent but this does make me wonder what else I'll learn from Streets of Minrathous with Neve and Wigmaker Job with Lucanis. Have to also consider in hindsight its a little weird that those were the only three we got from TVN. Anyways next up, speaking of, no real relation to anything but Horrors of Hormok.

I was listening to a podcast, and they suggested the protagonist in Luck in the Gardens might be Taash. Might be a bit of a stretch, but interesting to consider if true.

"The thing kept oscillating out of the water, undulating up more and more fused bones, nightmare fronds of something that was never alive. Water poured off a tangle of ribs that crested up before them like a cobra's hood, crowned by a misshapen thing vaguely resembling a skull. It split open sideways, its gullet spiked all the way down its neck-" " What was that thing?" "Uncataloged, Emmerich will be thrilled to hear if it." -Conversation between Myrna and Audric, Down Among the Dead MenSame creature? Thoughts?

It is a bone golem construct, similar to the Harvester with bones instead of flesh.

"Uncataloged, Emmerich will be thrilled to hear if it." The sort of things that "thrill" Emmrich have me worried. Between his fascination for unusual undead creatures and Bellara's excitement at discovering new magical artifacts, I can't possibly think what could go wrong. (sarcasm)

Daddy Bones is definitely a benign sort of Necromancer. He sounded a caring sort in his short story and apparently he hasn't changed with age.
A necromancer of Nevarra's Mourn Watch, this well-meaning scholar comes complete with a skeletal assistant, Manfred. Emmrich is as serious about his duty to protect innocents from the occult as he is about his studies and his interest in the mysteries of the fade.

I'd be a little disappointed if his story was a 'one of the good ones' type beat.

I have to admit there has been something of a turn around since DA2. There necromancy was definitely associated with evil. Then we had Dorian specialising in it and now Emmrich, both apparently good guys. Perhaps Emmrich will be able to give us a bit more insight into why it is considered an acceptable form of magic, particularly the whole messing around with corpses bit rather than simply having a positive relationship with spirits and the Fade.

Emmrich's choice of dress really doesn't seem like a regular Mortalitasi but it does make me think of Dorian. There is something flamboyant about our Necromancer's sense of style that I think Dorian would approve of. He has contacts in the Grand Necropolis. I do hope Emmrich is one of them. EDIT: Not sure that purple and green really go together though. Perhaps Dorian could give him fashion advice on complementary colours.

Cassandra also had a similar purple shade on her home outfit collar in DAI (no green thought), could be a Nevarran thing. Well, technically, Cassandra's outfit has two purple shades and they looks kinda fit on the DAVe inventory gradient. I just started a new DAI PT and that just jumped to my brain when talking to her in Haven. Emmrich's outfit there thought, the shoulder and collar looks kinda like corals or some underwater plant to me. And the front of his jackets reminds me of the double button Victorian Royal Navy officiers jackets (but it's not that similar) with some jester inspiration. I kinda wish we had the dev notes on that design.

with some jester inspiration That made me think of Tevinter and Alexius. His costume always gave me jester vibes and seemed unusual in having colour, since they had previously said that the Tevinter pallet was very much based on monochrome black and white, which I found disappointing at the time because I imagined them being more colourful and exotic in their hotter climes. It is noticeable that Neve's costume is mostly white. So, whilst I do think the colours clash a little, I really approve of Emmrich avoiding the cliched black garb we might associate with the Mortalitasi, although Viuus Anaxas in DAI was also rather colourful, but nothing like Emmrich.

If there is something I dislike it's long nails, and long nails on men are a massive turn off. The long nails + tiny mustache = super creepy.

Did they say anything about that?

I don't remember whether they said we could recolor gear. Did they say anything about that? I don't think they said anything about being able to do it. We know that there is transmog and that we can upgrade gear, but it's done differently than Inquisition. And that's it.

In game they are the colours associated with the Fade, Necromancy, spirits and spirit magic, so to be honest I'd rather go with that. As for the style, it occurred to me that perhaps his outfits were the fashion in Nevarra when he was young, 20-30 years ago, and he has been so immersed in his studies since then he never updated them and now they carry a certain nostalgia for him. It is really starting to grow on me.

We got a confirmation of Emmrich's age in the Q&A yesterday. They said that he is our oldest companion and placed him in his 50's.

I was looking at the depictions of Darinius the first Archon of Tevinter as depicted in WoT2 and this made me recall the depiction of what I must assume was Emmrich (or another member of the Mourn Watch) in some concept art. Those headdresses are very similar and the Mortalitasi were founded by a Tevinter mage. That makes me feel even more that the Grand Necropolis dates to a much earlier period. Notice also the design on Darinius' headdress. Does that remind you of anything?
