I can't believe it didn't occur to me before, but: I am *NOT* looking forward to having Solas in my head. Haven't they learned from SAM (MEA)? Except x10 worse, cause it's facking Solas! I was planning to play this on console, but an early "Shut Solas TF Up" mod might change my mind.

I wonder if the elf will be telling rook, hey rook you're getting cold, hey rook you're getting hot, hey rook, there are some materials nearby that can be used for crafting. Hey rook to get you free of this trap, I will have to stop your heart. With my power of the eyes I have, I should bring you back to life. Hey rook, I can change your voice to open this door.

Is the player in this game going to have to rely on Solas or will rook have a pair to tell the elf to **** off to figure things out for themselves? I really don't want another main character on a leash being led by a voice.

Hate/ don't like/ not sure- I hate with passion the word shadow dragons, it's so dumb and so anachronic. We went from this impressive word " the lucerni " to " shadow dragons " af if we are now playing some GTA game or Mafia video game set in China. They couldn't find a much better word or more exotic, coming from latin language for example in Tevinter ? Is it because they think it will attract the 14 years old kiddies ? Geez. That name bothers me so much that It could entirely prevents me from playing a native in Tevinter, while it has always been something I wanted. It will depends on how much attractive this faction could be. So far that doesn't give me the will to join this faction. Please Bioware don't ever do that again. Find other ways to attract kiddies. Having that sort of name in a dragon age game is ridiculous. - I hate all these flashy things during combat, it seems bioware didn't take into account the complaints about that with inquisition. It's not even beautiful to watch when you look at the combat, it seems like a mess during the fighting. - I'm not sure about the combat itself, didn't look tactical at all, and the companions barely helped Rook and barely hit the enemies. But I'll wait more gameplay to judge the gameplay and IA. - What happened to the design of demons and darkpawns. Is there any other franchise where the design of enemies keep getting worse than the previous game every single episode ? So far, the best darkspawn still come from dragon age origins, especially dragon age Awakening where the design of darkspawns was at its their best. A game released in 2009...... They can't do better than this game after 10 years of working on the game ? - Why is everything purple ? That's quite ugly. Is there at least some meaning ? What about the sound of the fighting during the gameplay demo ? I felt like I heard mass effect 3 pew pew, during combat against demons, it was a little disturbing. Maybe that was just me so I'm not certain about this. But I really hope that's not the case. Like / loveI'm not sure about the artstyle, but it will do, the graphics however look very good. The game will be probably very beautiful. That's a big point for them. Love : character creator/ being able to choose our bodyshape, better hairstyle the transmog, origins and factions that are back, I love the american voice of Rook. Will probably use it for my character . Most important, apparently Bioware crafted carefully every single side quest, no more fedex quests like , go search my cat, without anything to do with the main quest. That would be wonderful. But wait and see, I need more proof about that. As for the rest, I'll wait and see. As usual, the big thing that can make me like a game or not, it's above all the writting. there is nothing more important than the overall writting. I can be very tolerant with a lot of things I don't like, if the writting can at least make me forget them. The writting itself however, that's where I will not be kind if it's bad.

It is rated M. I could give them that. So instead of 14 years old, let's say young adults between 18 and 20 years old.

I should post this here rather then the skepticism thread.
One thing I genuinely like now:
Alright, somebody posted a list of the voice actors for this game in the News Thread and Jeff Berg is one of the 2 VA doing the voice work for Rook. He has the kind of youthful voice I find very sexy. I retain all my reservations, but this is a little brighter spot.

the game is rated M and definitely has suggestive/ gruesome themes in it so not marketed towards 14 year olds... Nowadays isn't an M-rating how you market to 14 year olds...or 20 year olds for that matter...cause boobies and butts. Sexual content is more likely to earn that rating than murdering a bunch of baddies. The writting itself however, that's where I will not be kind if it's bad. This is where I stand...and hope that the M-rating is more about adult writing than blood splatter and booty calls.

Things I Think I Love
I’m interested in how Solas in our head will work. It could lead to some great conversations. I’ll especially love it if Varric winds up trapped as well, and we’re privy to a dialectic between them. Solas and Varric’s arguments were already some of my favorite moments from Inquisition, would love to hear more of them.
I like the art style, especially for the humanoid models. It looks very painterly. I have some reservations about the monster designs (and some of the companions are perhaps a tad overdesigned as well) but I actually think some of them—like the Rage Demon—are an improvement over the original design.
The combat looked fun. There were number of moment to moment decisions being made, and the enemies’ toolkits seemed varied. You can also pause to assess and set up combos, which I like. It already seems far more varied and impactful than any of the level 1 gameplay from the past three games. (Except perhaps the opening to 2, but that’s cheating.)
Things I Think I Hate
That 180 camera pan when Varric meets Solas. It came across so self-indulgent and gratuitous. That might be the only bit I genuinely hated, everything else I mostly just have question marks about.
The random glowing vases you can break for potions. Just feels very gamey.
The random glowing portions that are clearly meant to be weak points in the enemy designs. Again, very video game-y.
A lot of clunky exposition crammed into the opening. I get you need to try and bring new players up to speed, but it seemed so awkward. I would much rather have had a conversation with Varric back at the tavern, in a lull, where he explains the situation.
The frenetic nature of the opening in general. I tend to prefer a lowkey starts to games, and I miss how, in Origins, the setup was always just another day in your life before things went wrong. But I’m hopeful we’ll get something similar in the tavern portion and it was just cut for time.
Also not crazy about the name Shadow Dragon. It feels like they want another two word title to match Grey Warden, Antivan Crows, Veil Jumper, Mourn Watcher, etc. But Lords of Fortune already break that trend, and is a badass name besides, so I’m not certain why they forced it.

For the first time I am probably going with the American VA because I prefer Jeff's voice to that Alex Jordan. Not that his voice sounds strongly American to me, at least not in an annoying way. I agree that it has a lighter, younger sound to it. Also, I believe Alex was the one voicing Rook in the game play trailer and it sounded just a bit too rough and gravelly for how I envisage my Rook. Overall all though I think I like their choices for VA both of Rook and the companions, so won't be gritting my teeth every time I hear a particular companion speak.

Didn't love the "Shadow Dragons" name either, although they're my top choice (along w/ GWs) right now. But yeah, my visceral reaction was = ugh... really? 😬 Also not a fan of flashy combat VFX for non-magical or adjacent classes and moves. Like, why is my Warrior glowing yellow with Guard active, the health bar is enough of a visual indicator. Like, tone it the F down. I'll literally opt out of an otherwise great ability/talent if it makes you glow like a Christmas tree. As BG3 is my witness.

Bryony Corrigan is hilarious in the Goes Wrong show. Granted her best bits were physical comedy, but still, I’m probably going to pick her voice for my Lords of Fortune Rook. I don’t choose British VA that often so pretty pumped about it. I don’t know if there’s a Dragon Age companion with a voice I actively dislike. I can think of a few for Mass Effect, though. Maybe Leliana, especially in Origins, she doesn’t always sell emotional beats well. And Bull sometimes sounds like a horned James Vega, which can be distracting.

I would much rather have had a conversation with Varric back at the tavern, in a lull, where he explains the situation. Haha, and that was the short version we saw.

Haha, and that was the short version we saw. Lol, true. We’ll probably get an opening recap cinematic too, at the very least. I would rather have Harding explain stuff. No reason to have Varric do that. Yeah, I’d be fine with Harding doing the talking instead. Better cements her as one of our companions.

Things I Think I Love I’m interested in how Solas in our head will work. (Except perhaps the opening to 2, but that’s cheating.) Things I Think I Hate That 180 camera pan when Varric meets Solas. Yeah I think i twas jus tcut t ofi tth e20 minute slo they were allocated and sfo rthe gamey bits wel lVeilguard is a vide ogame so it does kind of mak eesense and they likely made thos evases stand out a bitt omake i teasirefor peopl et o notic ewha the yneed t olook ou tfo rwhen topping up thei rhealth or whatever. The las tthing yo uwantt od ois embarrassing yourself b ydyin gon the tutorial level like I did on m yfirs tcouple of runs of Andromeda.

Yea hbu ti tkind o fmakes sens egiven they aer a Tevinter group though. Dragons do hav ea certain signifcance to them in tha tcountr ymuc hlike the ydo to the Qunari as well. Thoug hin the Qunari's case it's a different kind of significance.

I always found the tutorial to be surprisingly difficult myself, due to low level guns, few abilities, and how easy it is to get surrounded at certain points. So I feel you on Andromeda, ha. Low level in general tends to be the hardest parts of most game since you're limited in your options.

Likes: - Harding if course - You are not a religious paragon figure anymore - the factions sound pretty adventurous - Neves film noir detective feeling Dislike - combat doesn't look good, I'm afraid, it will feel more like ME combat - 3 abilities and 2 companions is not enough No offense to those who want voluptuous Taash, but if I (a woman) was a warrior, I'd want to have muscles and I'd want armor that protected my boobs rather than outlining them. Okay, I can buy that argument but it doesn't excuse that face. What is wrong with her face? I find her quite attractive. And I agree with celestielf about being a warrior woman and protecting my boobs.

Yeah thos eaer the onl ythings I'm suspicious of really but ther aer going t ob etimes when we have a 3rd companoin fo rexample we have Varric as ewll as Hardin gan dNeve dealin gwith that pride demon jus before runnin gint oSolas so it ma yno tb eall bad. I'm hopin gcomba twhile playin gwill feel a bit closre t oHogwarts really in how it plays becaus ei fit plays lik etha tI don' tthin ki twi l lb etoo bad. Bu twith combat I get hte feelin gw ewon' tknow exactl yhow i tfeels until we get ou rhands on it as I was a bit iffy on the idea of only having 3 active powers in Andromeda but in actual fact when playing I didn't feel much different than I did the trilogy and b ythat I mean yes we lost the tactical pause but only havin g3 powers kind of worked in the games favour as it helped streamlin and simplify the comba tt othe point that it was still accessible and fun. So I' m kind o fhoping for a similar vibe here wih Veilguard. Tim ewil tell though I suspect
