I've recently made a comment under one of Derek Wilk's Twitter comments about the qunari where I basically said that wanting to create a rougher qunari is fine, but complaining before we saw CC and all available options ain't cool - and he liked that comment. I agree with you in regards to the CC, but also, I believe it’s a fair concern when at least one other Qunari (Treviso merchant) was shown with the same apparent “issue” - regardless of the narrative of the IGN person having purposefully made a “baby-faced” Qunari, that does not represent the entirety of options. Maybe it won’t represent the entirety of options for the Qunari… at launch. After such a bad reaction to it and all the complaints. Maybe those option (to make fiercer, more rough-looking Qunari) were always there. We’ll never know… 🤷♀️ I’ll repeat: I don’t really care at the end of the day, it doesn’t affect me that much, personally (never played Qunari, nor do I want to). The criticism, after a while it was blown waaay out of proportion, couldn’t agree more. But some of it was valid, and came from a genuine place from players and fans of the franchise, just like you and me. While we don't yet know what we have or haven't got, I think this is a matter of lore rather than CC - why would a Qunari merchant look like a member of Qunari military? When we know that the Qunari basically have an eugenics program that breeds and then selects Qunari to specific roles? And, as it happens, most Qunari we saw in DA were either members of Antaam, or members of Be-Hassrath that take active part in combat (or Tal-Vashoth that deserted from those factions). However - while we didn't yet see the faces of Antaam Qunari (they wear face coverings) we already see just how much more buff they are compared to Qunari that were not bred and trained since birth to be a wall of muscle fit for military.

Art style and/or photo realism aren't really that important. At least to me.
What really sells the immersion for me is facial animation and lip-sync. (something which seems to be in short supply in DAV from what we have seen).
Without realistic facial animations characters just fall flat, it doesn't matter how good they 'look'.

I really don't see a "short supply" of facial animations so far. For a big RPG with big CC and customizable faces? They are not bad at all.

Lip sync has seemed slightly off in some videos, I'm not sure if that's compression and youtube de-sync related issue though.

Generic conversations will likely never be as good as hand-crafted/mocapped scenes. It's true in virtually every game.

Yeah, there seems to be a difference in animations between cutscenes that, from what i understand, were mocapped and everything else. Granted, Bioware still works on the game so they can polish some things.

Yes, but some developers have found a way to at least ensure there's some believability in the facial expressions to make characters look more human. That includes matching eyebrow movements to certain mouth movement queues, subtle pupil movement, skin wrinkling, etc. My concern is that, with the softer skin texturing and light reflections on character faces, it will make facial expressions much less pronounced. You may not be seeing it, but enough people - like myself - have noticed it.
