The removal of the Bloom option is indeed a godsend. Even the wife noticed it and said that it was less of a glare. It does provide an awkward conversation because of course it does. Provides a couple of points to be torn on. Like I was curious to see if this would also effect cutscenes and what not...and well it does seem to. Which does provide a little bit of...well years of accademy training wasted. Sort of a feeling. Might mean that all those screen caps and what not of our Rooks in the first PT might not be that indicitive now that we have options. So something to think about. As is if I am going to start over from scratch might do it anways. As I believe I mentioned did have a little bit of rush job potentially with Oliver's design so there is a bit of a desire/ thought to maybe go back and tweak him. Don't think it will exactly need to be a complete page 1 write like it was with my Ryders, he's close, just maybe needs some slight tweaking. So the playthrough with Rook Wife continues on. Got up through chapter 3 basically and into the Crossroads. Her Rook is a lot more...cheery then mine is so far. Going for the 'top right' option a lot more. And ugh forget the context but we were having a good laugh at the game's expense earlier going on with things. And she did get the opprotunity to flirt with Harding. And she found a couple of good memes/ gifs of people rocking out to symbolize us rocking out to the Lyrium ghoul music. Plus getting to fill her in on the lore. Which the game would fill in eventually but figure just in case for one reason or another...and its really fun just getting to actually fully share a Dragon Age experience for once. Fun she is sharing a interest with me. I also do continue to note...well I'm not entirely certain how she feels about Solas as a character overall but she does not certainly like him as a person. So she is playing her Rook a little bit more aggressively then Oliver was against him. SO this has already led to different dialogue. Sometimes I feel like when it comes to reactivity I am giving this game too much credit and gaslighting myself...but again I still really like what we are getting and he directly references the different conversation beats.
Also had a devil of a time conversating about Varric. I actually did not mention one of these theories to her because she is already predisposed enough to dislike Solas, and already made the comment that she was going to kill him after mentioning the first theory...but asked if this Varric is really 'him' and once more one of those fascinating DA dillemas on spirits because I don't think based on what we know the game offers a clear answer...but I got it down to one of three possibilities.
1. That Solas used blood magic to trick Rook into seeing him but then Rook's mind mostly filled in the blanks as to what Varric would actually say. This is possible.
2. That Solas is speaking through Varric to 'guide' them. While this is the fan theory I have seen *the most* so far and well it does make sense sometimes...it really also does not. Because Varric in this is being pretty conceilatory and actually helping lift Rook's spirits, if Solas was trying to guide Rook, and specifically guide them to beign more prepared for taking his place in the prison...wouldn't Varric be a little less...well Varric? I do like this idea because it would actually justify Varric's role in the game but I also don't buy it.
Or 3. The Fade/ Lighthouse is effectively amplyfying Solas's magic, that he did trick Rook's brain into thinking Varric is alive but then since Rook's brain believes it a spirit/ maybe even Varric's spirit itself picked up on it...since the distinction is becoming less and less clear all the time within the Dragon Age setting.

Struggling to find the feeling of playing rogue. Never had that In any other Dragon Age game. Might try saboteur as a last effort. Any tips would be appreciated.
Having the ability to turn off bloom Is a godsend. It really did wash things out and made the game a bit to bright.

Having the ability to turn off bloom Is a godsend. It really did wash things out and made the game a bit to bright. Below levels 20-25 there is barely any build to be talked about, but once you can spend a good amount of points (and please do get as many Fen'Harel statues as you can, there are 15 in the game), Rogue becomes cool and enjoyable, just like all others classes. I feel that Duelist is the strongest, so strong I am switching off from it for now, lol. But all of the 3 specializations are viable. There are people out there rocking No specialization at all for Rogue, on Nightmare. A few items that will definitely boost your build as well as your overall enjoyment are: Maw of the Black City (that one goes without saying, must have for any build), Cordova's Toothpick, Aranai Talon, Audacity, and any amulet that gives you Mana Momentum (lol) based on the abilities you cast.

Today?
Every time I had Taash "engage" my current target and she front flips into the screen, double-axeing some sod in the face...
Every time I dodged an entire melee combo - surprise, mofo!- barrier parried the last strike and then riposted them onto the floor like a telekinetic fucking sledgehammer...
Every time I was still excited over yet another Parcours section, thinking shit, N64 era Rare platformer gamey fun vibes in Dragon Age...
Everytime I grandma-hugged and cuddled the baby griffon...
...I was thinking, yeah I hate this. Shit game.

Having the ability to turn off bloom Is a godsend. It really did wash things out and made the game a bit to bright. I feel you on the rogue thing. Rogue is my go-to for Dragon Age. I got Rook to level 50 in my first run and he was…good, but not as fun as I expected. Only level 15 with my warrior, but already enjoying it a lot more. I just bailed on my Rogue around level 23. Duelist looks too OP, and I prefer Warrior for melee, so I focused on Archery. It was extremely effective, but got stale very quickly. It was just headshot/weakpoint, one after another. There are ways in which that can be fun, but it just wasn't in this case. I might try again someday, and I'm still considering an eventual Saboteur playthrough. I'm always going to favor Mages in any game, and Veilguard has made them much more dynamic and enjoyable. The Champion Warrior was freaking awesome. I had so much fun as a Grey Warden Champion. I need to check out the new visual options. The game has looked overly bright and fuzzy since release. It sounds like I can now address that. I played for a couple of hours, today. My Veil Jumper Mage progressed from level 6 to 12, IIRC. She hasn't yet been to Minrathous, but has done a lot in Arlathan and is now returning to Treviso for some exploration and investigation. I'm struggling a little with post-Warden hangover. The Grey Warden background was so good that I might struggle to get as immersed into any of the others. I'm going to see it through with my Veil Jumper. She has nice, flowing, Jumper garb and will try to cozy up to Bellara. It could be, too, that I'm hitting a wall, having played over 220 hours. I may simply need a break.

Blighted Treviso is terrible. I did a couple quests there before leaving because I felt so guilty. Never again. All of Tevinter can burn and I will still save my beautiful city. Neve better start paying more attention to Ulric after this.
Afterwards, I went back to Daria's game....made it all the way to meeting with the Crows the first time and had to stop and reload/tweak her again because apparently she went back to a previous version. Re-did the Ossuary and after checking back with the Lighthouse went immediately back to Treviso for the first quest there (finding Dareth/Jacobus and the qamek master). Then went back 2 more times for Coffee With the Crows and Bidding Farewell. Happier times to wash away the bitter taste of Ulric's game. Managed to get in quite a few options with Lucanis throughout all of these quests. And now I have to go back to Docktown. Hmm, maybe I'll go to Arlathan Forest first.
The plan is get Daria up to the same point (picking Treviso instead) and then go back to Ulric's game, play it until I get too depressed, and switch again.

I am dreading picking Minrathous this time, Aurora was in Treviso the last few days and having played as a Crow previously I am really not looking forward to going back there and looking Teia and Viago in the face.

Picked up the Demon of Vyrantium right now. I guess continuing to see my wife's reactions to everything in this game and what is going on. Had some questions about Lucanis which I wasn't exactly sure how to answer...not because I didn't have an answer per se...just its complicated. And did have a little more fun with things going on. She found the Crows interesting at least. And well I had to react with great amusement by taking Harding to the Ossuary. She was kind of a weird example in my first PT how she was sort of very important in my party for awhile but also not...do wonder if she'd actually make a Bellara replacement for future Oliver playthroughs considering the idea was to not have Ollie's LI in the field too much but here I am getting a taste of it. Not to ruffle feathers but she is just so damn Dwarfy. Also contuing to enjoy the bloom, I think. Always the debate on whether or not I am gaslighting myself and if things look sharper but blander sort of a thing. Think I did really appreciate the visuals in the Ossuary more seeing the whales move in the distance. Whoa. Main lore question tonight how do I go about explaining the difference between Lucanis being a not abomination like Zara referenced a lot of the Order of Fiery Promise. It also does not help per se that I am going out of my way to not read the codex this time. Other then maybe trying out a couple of things I didn't do in the first playthrough like do the secret ending steps, I heard you actually get voices on each one so that might be worth hearing...heard that could offer some additional controversey. But back to the matter at hand. Just Zara was operating on the Order of Fiery Promise notes and what they were doing with the prisoners to manifest demons and build an army. Only difference is that was working slightly different to what we...nah I realized it actually does seem to match up never mind. But still, how do you explain not possession/ abominations versus possession and abominations?

Wearing Kirkwall armor for most of the game so far cause it looks so goddamn good. Using humorous dialogue that is often funny and sometimes inappropriate. Talking about how annoying mages are despite being one.
Welcome back Purple Hawke.
Screw DA:Next I want DAO/DA2 redone in this engine with these combat mechanics.

Granted I still think VG would be my favorite of the series but Origins and 2 would come off a lot better. Leave everything else the heck alone and update combat and graphics. I do sure the dissapointment that only the mage armor was updated, I would have loved it if the rogue armor made it into Veilguard. But then I am also super annoyed that for the second game in a row we don't get any good looking hoods.

I am really not looking forward to going back there and looking Teia and Viago in the face. Teia and Viago are professionals and handle it like troopers. The rest though....
Edit to add sad panda pics from Ulric's game.
Picking Minrathous - not sure why these images came out so dark
While I am excited to see some new/expanded content for the Shadow Dragons, the devastation in Treviso so far isn't worth it. Both Heir and Fletcher (the merchant) are turned into darkspawn you have to kill, and Jacobus doesn't even want to talk to Rook anymore. Also, Chance has a constant cough that is likely the blight taking hold.
Such a motivator lol
I'm still going through Daria's screenshots....since I replayed certain sections multiple times I have multiple versions of the same thing several times over.

I finished my crow playthrough with having only one "loyal" companion. Everyone dead. It wasn't the ending I was expecting, but at the same time I realized Bioware copied the same issue ME2's suicide mission had. All factions were at one star. Bellara was "loyal". I chose her to go with the jumpers. She did the ward thing leading to Strife surviving. The same for when I had Emmrich go with the jumpers on a previous playthrough.
I said I was completing a playthrough for each faction. I have done that. At this time, I have no interest in playing the game again.

Yeah I love Minrathous but unless I'm playing a Shadow or a very pragmatic character, Treviso is the much better pick for the overall experience. I picked Minrathous a 2nd time cause I'm from there but blighted Treviso is just so.... Sorry Neve.

This is probably a spicy hot take but not only do I think direct companion control was overrated in a BioWare RPG, I also have much more compulsion to play different classes because I don't experience almost all specializations in one playthrough lol.
I'm on a third completionist playthrough and I'm already looking forward to play a shield tossing Reaper Warrior next. This happens every playthrough.. I haven't felt this way about any game in a while. I definitely play this game for the combat and build theorycrafting at this point lol.
I'm trying out a build with Evoker that doesn't use Mana for abilities (Control build) and it has been hilariously effective. I can save mana for staff charging, blocking, and laser beams. I also have a Projectile build that's more bursty but less consistent.
I also missed that the Mourn Watch section's Shocking Weapons triggers on detonations. That's so absurdly easy to trigger that I'm pathing towards it now. I feel dumb for missing it. The other 2 classes don't have a consistently easy proc like this. I think the equivalent is killing by Weak Point, and that's only reliable on mooks.
This is definitely an Elementalist build now though, and it has a lot of Primers and Afflictions active at any given time. It's been fun managing it!
My stagger gen is atrocious though...

Hell, I barely used direct party companion control in BG3, only when it was necessary. So, yeah I don't think it's that big of a deal.
