While I'm disappointed at no expansions. I feel content and maybe it's a good thing? Just throwing that out there, but why does everyone seem so sure about this? As commendable as setting out to make the game so it wouldn't need one, besides the former, did they outright methodically rule out any sort of expansion? I mean realistically, as a publisher I'd just hold my cards to the chest and see how it sells. Why burn that bridge? Plus making a new expansion is way less resource consuming as entering another half decade of production of a whole new game (existing ip or otherwise) Personally that "we wanna provide a complete experience" thing doesn't do anything for me, because what they're saying is "we are not evil money grabbers selling you stuff extra", while I know I'm exactly the type of asshole who buys it. Honest, every story dlc bioware made was worth the money, they simply earned that trust up until now, by delivering.

Lets see here. Main thing worth getting to first on this playthrough is I picked up Lucanis's companion gift. SOmething I think I missed the first time. Granted the entire thing is a bit on the meh side as far as the gifts are concerned is but I do think I missed...a couple of them the first time through? Plus the game answered my lore related conundrum for me as Lucanis made sure to at least somewhat explain the difference. Which again I did kind of forget and also does track. Also had some shannengans with belts and stuff. Trying to actually immerse myself in Treviso (which is kind of weird seeing it all...well you know)...this time out and actually visit the places and try and get more used to things. But in so doing visited the market for the first time and spent a good deal of my gold. Apprepro found a belt which causes bleeding to nearby targets which seemed like a good idea...but I didn't realize the impracticality of it given that my main goal for tonight was to get the Jenny belt...or one of them. And also speaking of thigns like this since I am going over to the left/ Crow side of the tree seeing more abilities on that side...and its kind of funny that in the early game seems stagger was a lot more important then in the late game...or at least for Veil Ranger Rook. But I did spy a Greater Passive that gives Rook health on takedowns which I will now make for because if I do intend on doing more offensive belt use I might have to make up the health from somewhere. Also would like to avoid the Researchers Coat. And last but not least the wife did like the look at least of the Simple Tunic for the Wardens. A negative thing I didn't noice my first PT, I thought you could untrack quests in this game but you can't...and the main quest I was on just kept on pulling me in while I was trying to do my exploration. More spoilery thoughts, some for the Regrets of the Dread Wolf So did the part with Ghil and the secret labs and kind of had another thought or two about later on in the Regrets quest and the reveal of the Blight...
Kind of funny you have an opinion and you can forget it. I think I have had this thought about another one of the regrets as well, but wish we got, in this context I guess one or two more Regret statues and/ or memories. Because the eonnective tissue is not ideal here that Solas said 'what we will do to the Titans will create a blight' seems very on the nose and how did they know? It still works since that is obviously what happened (maybe this was the thought after all) but really we could have had Solas say something more along the lines of 'This will have terrible reprucussions if we do this Mythal' and then later on show a mural of them looking into the spread of the blight and then Solas could say "I recognize this magic...it is what happened to the blight." Relatively minor point in the grand sceheme of thigns and given the nature of the Fade it could work how the Fade can sort of twist memories around. Still would've been interesting.

Isana Negat
I wish they would let us travel there freely. I cannot stop taking pictures. I love it.
There is a deliberate dreamy, melancholy kind of beauty I could always appreciate, be it ME1's planet exploration, the Hissing Wastes in DAI, many other examples in Dark Souls. Emptiness is not at all what makes bad level design, pointlessness is.
PS I love the entirety of the Kal sharok dwarf remnant chapter, including Stalwart. That culty, tribal isolationist mystique makes them so much more of a unique people. This spirituality to them. I have never found dwarves so intriguing, to tell you the truth! Before DAV, they all just seemed recycled clichés of any other 'verse. (Which is the opinion of someone who loves many-a-cliché, just never vibing with those ones. If you enjoy the classic dwarf thang, all power to you) This is different though, I'm guessing in a somewhat obverse sense as fans of Qunari must have felt throughout the series?
PPS If you insist on this weirdly rigid silly faction structure (my least favorite aspect of DAV by far), why aren't they one?

I thought you could untrack quests in this game but you can't
Yes, somewhat annoying, so I try not to 'track' a quest until I'm ready to do it. That doesn't stop the game from constantly yelling at me to 'open the journal and pick a quest' though.

Pics from yesterday. This will be it for Daria until I get to the next 'big thing' (or too depressed) with Ulric.
Missing pieces from Coffee With the Crows
Where the true magic happens Finding this here (Crossroads area leading to Anderfels) got me thinking....what if griffins originated as another spirit-turned-physical being?
Finding Davrin
Poor babies trying to get out We'll get them back, Assan. I promise. Since I had Lucanis with me to go get Davrin, the conversation after we got back went a bit differently. Harding was the one who told us about the dragon hitting Treviso. Also, with Daria a Crow, it's 'our people' not 'my people'.

I'm looking forward to experiencing and enjoying the differences, but I don't expect I'll ever truly like the Crows. Their organization is terrible. In some ways, they're the polar opposite of the altruistic Shadow Dragons. Aiding Treviso is definitely something I do for the non-combatants. If it were dependent upon my liking the Crows, they'd be doomed. As I said above, I'm looking forward to seeing the differences in the two cities, and really looking forward to experiencing Lucanis' more complete arc. It's hard to believe that I've played 2.5 playthroughs without seeing his entire story. Weird design choice, given that we're still seemingly bros in his truncated arc. I totally agree, and I won't like them as an organization ever, but I feel for the individuals still. There are good people in the Crows, too And I can't wait to hear your thoughts when you see Lucanis's whole arc. I won't say too much, but it makes a lot of sense his content is cut quite a bit. I'm actually amazed BioWare went there and stuck to Lucanis's character.
Progressed some more the past days, and I hope I can wrap up my second playthrough in a couple days. (Btw, love how we all care for these lovely pixels Also so great to continue seeing your beautiful Rooks. They all look so good!) - Went for a walk with Davrin and the feather baby, who bonded with a Halla. Emmrich got to stop Hezenkoss next, at the expense of Manfred. But Luna saw how much he meant to Emmrich, so he gave up his ultimate dream to get him back. And as it turns out, Rook's advice to get Harding some cheese turned out well for Taash! - Headed to Treviso and met the Butcher, then killed him. After that Luna, Neve and Emmrich dealt with Aelia. Found out Emmrich and Dorian know each other, that was fun to see. And Neve has Trouble as a nickname for Rook now. Did she learn that from Varric Anyway, Neve is now fierce protector of Dock Town. - Cleaned up the Crossroads a bit before attending a party in Treviso where Lucanis imprisoned Illario and became First Talon. Helped Bellara stop a ritual next, unfortunately with a certain casualty. Told her to let go of the Archive (again). Next run will be different. - Relaxed with Davrin, Assan and some magic mushroom tea. I laughed so hard at this again. Then we killed Isseya and Luna decided to give the Griffons to the Wardens. I thought I'd pick the forest again with her, but for some reason the other way fit better with her personality. I still love Isseya as a villain, she has twisted reasons, but I get it. Love it when there's more to villains than evil for the sake of evil. - Ivenci went down next. So glad when I don't have to see blighted Treviso anymore soon... Spoilers for blighted Treviso/Lucanis path My god, this was getting more horrible the further I went in I don't even know why I have such a soft spot for the Crows in this game, they are still a crazy faction. And I do love the Minrathous peeps, too, but Treviso still hits me more. So much doom there. And I finally got Lucanis's scene about getting rid of Spite. The more I see of him, the more I love him. When he ponders if he'd not miss Spite... damn! I was actually surprised this was a fairly long scene, and it was really good.
Took some more pics (my PS5 is cluttered with images and videos... don't look forward to clean it ) Gloom Howler quest scenic pics, love the atmosphere so much. It's quite interesting that in this playthrough, Taash and Harding got together much earlier than in my last, where they only did that shortly before Act 3 started. Is that actually random when these scenes can happen? Also, the Shadow Dragon reactivity continues to be very good. I look forward most to Mourn Watch and Crows now, I don't think Veil Jumpers and Lords of Fortune had much in terms of reactivity.

So I just had a conversation I totally forgot about on my first playthrough between Neve and Assan and omg it's the sweetest thing ever.
My Shadow Dragon Rook had a cute prompt and I just committed to romancing Neve (second time in a row) because of how cute the whole thing was with Rook telling Assan he thinks he likes Neve.
Unhardened vs hardened Neve romance has such a different vibe... the one with my Crow had much more angst and regret while this one is more ... idk... sweet

Holy shit I have been dragging Lucanis and Davrin around together more than normal cause I plan to take them both with me in the Act 1 final and I'm farming for the level 4 relationship..... and their banter is so damn hostile. I don't think I ever got this far into their pre-reconciliation banter.
It's almost as bad as Fenris and Anders at this point...except it's arguably worse cause it's less immature lol

I look forward most to Mourn Watch and Crows now, I don't think Veil Jumpers and Lords of Fortune had much in terms of reactivity. I believe the romance initiation is locked behind a time-sensitive dialogue you can have where Taash says they like the smell of Harding and ask you what gift to get them. So you need to make sure both Harding and Taash don't have any pending quests. If you accept them (don't have to actually do them immediately) they can have dialogues again. IDK if it's relevant but there are some banters that trigger between them before romance as well that have flirty vibes. Not sure if they are required but it flows nicely if you trigger them first as well.

I found this at one of the regular wispy vendors in the Crossroads. Spoilers for blighted Treviso/Lucanis path I found a lot of dead candlehops in Minrathous....is this why they want help? ME references at the Hall of Valor
Ulric recruited Taash but still has to get Emmrich. I did all available quests in Rivain, Arlathan, Treviso, and Minrathous. So far all the quests in Minrathous have been the same; the only differences: had an actual sit down conversation with Mae at SD HQ, and a new dialogue with Neve at the Lighthouse (about not sleeping). At this point, color me unimpressed vs the devastation in Treviso.

Yeah I will never choose to save Minrathous over Treviso again, it actually physically upset me yesterday seeing Treviso the way it was and talking to Chance and hearing him cough and think oh no.

Haha. That's the way I felt when I saw Viper for the first time. I poked around Minrathous a bit, and then realized, "I can't do this without Neve. Bond will be harder to build with her this time." I expected Minrathous to look much more blighted. It just looks like there were riots in the streets, thanks to the coup.
I didn't get to play as much as I'd wanted. I had a midday appointment and the Eagles game to watch. Then my wife swooped in to watch some stuff. (Swooping is bad.) I can't complain, as I've been playing a lot for 5 weeks.
We recruited Taash today, fought in the Hall of Heroes, and saved a Vinsomer from the Antaam. I think I probably saved for the day in Rivain. I can't really remember, since it was sudden. My pup wanted to walk and we finally have temperatures above freezing, so I logged off in a hurry.
I always find myself thinking about future playthroughs while I'm still early in the current playthrough. The characters I want to play are too Mage-heavy. I want to play a Shadow Dragon Mage (probably Ice-focused) and a Grey Warden Mage (fire-focused, so Spellblade). I might have to work in a Grey Warden Saboteur to avoid playing the same thing too many times.
Regardless of my overactive character conceptualization, I am enjoying my Veil Jumper. It's a good background for playing an elfy elf, complete with filthy Dalish feet. (Those bare feet always make me laugh. Broken stone? Electrified water? Blight? No problem. My soles are tough.) The Veil Jumper gear looks really nice, and very thematic. The latter means that it only really works, in my opinion, for a Veil Jumper. I guess that's true of most of the faction gear. Wardens dress Warden, Shadows dress Tevene, etc...

Emmrich has a heart line in the camping conversation. :] Best boy confirmed. Also night gown dlc when? So the dwarf suggested Taash acted more Qunari in the first option so got some different grub at the scene and different one-on-one talk with her mom. Which was neat. Spoilers/ponderings in the spoilers. And it was interesting since she's very sus that the dwarf is trying to indoctrinate Taash back to the Qun. Obviously the dwarf is an agent of the Qun. Also kinda realized "The meal is missing something" was probably an attempt for one-on-one with Rook, but then massively backfires by being fuel on the fire of resentment. Then got the vibe that having two parties see Taash as being wronged did distress her a bit. Wonder if they'd usually duke it out a bit longer but the revelation and having an audience made her back off early to contemplate on the situation.
Dwarf found her doppelganger in the Hall of Valor. Granted less tats/scars but still. You not so special. On the other side ya'll have my kinda dwarf in your game And did the Emmrich dinner date for the third time. Did save post it but also have a special save with a proper name and all, just in case. Emmrich commenting on the dwarfs stiff left wrist still amuses me because the fortune outfit she's wearing has that one in bandages so it kinda looks as if it's broken so the whole "Subtle sign" feels a bit like a billboard. And finally found Curio and Keepsake again. Had some neat chats with them. There is a lot of subtle stuff going on in the Necropolis. Or maybe I just have a hard time spotting it because of all the green. And finally, a pic of the non helmeted dwarf. Is she looking at Emmrich or a big pile of gold? We'll never know.

I hate the bare feet thing always have and even in AC etc. always try and have my character with boots on.

Lmao I went into the Act 1 finale today fully prepped at level 30 with 2 revive charges, scared for my squishy mage. Went with a Fire build using Arcane Shot, Fire Wall, Ice Blast (for Davrin's Weakening Detonation to get Shocking Weapons) and Destructive Light. Put the Deflect enchant on Fire Wall for some sustain and the rest was all damage enchants. Pumped up my mana to 300 and put on the Token of True Flight for mana sustain. Turns out I shouldn't have been worried. I obliterated everything including the final boss. I was never even below half health at any point lmao. I massively overperformed compared to Rogue and Warrior. Those two weren't necessarily hard but Mage might as well have been on Storyteller mode. With Warrior and Rogue I focused a lot on auto attacks so it's nice to play Mage and have an emphasis on massive damage spam for once. There's a node in Evoker tree at level 30 that makes your staff final light attack fire off a gazillion bolts... and Flamebranch hit legendary level in the zone. If I wasn't on hardcore mode rule I would have equipped the Immovable potion belt and did CRITS on top of all that damage lmao This is why this game is so hype for me. I'm having so much fun on top of all the RPG stuff. This is the best combat I've ever seen in an action RPG. Every playthrough hypes me up even more for the next. I talked down the Warden this time. Gotta say I think the mission plays out better this way. My Rook telling the First Warden "Just don't miss" with a shit-eating grin got a cackle out of me.

I have completed the Siege of Weisshaupt for my Grey Warden.
I have decided that this shall be my "In Death, Sacrifice" run. No-one will get Hero of the Veilguard status, I'm not doing any companion quests and not doing any faction quests. Main, story missions only. I'll grab the wolf statues to up my ability count, but other than that, I want to see how twisted the ending can get.
That way, when I play a third run, I can look in every corner, do every thing trying for that "special" ending. In my first run, I got all companions to hero, and all bar the Mourn Watch were maxed out - so I guess that was what I missed in terms of the secret ending?
