Oh - and I came up against a hassle with my warrior. The shield throw cool down is a pain the ass. During the final battle at Weisshaupt, it took forever because I was constantly waiting for it to refresh, as opposed to my rogue who was able to fire arrows almost continuously and they generated enough stagger to bring down one of the heads.
For that fight only...warrior was not fun.

Yeah I will never choose to save Minrathous over Treviso again
I was too upset to continue with Ulric so went back to Daria. Went truffle/nug hunting with Assan and Davrin, found some missing Veil Jumpers and the first mystery circle (I also did the latter two with Ulric earlier). Recruited Emmrich, then went back for some more questing in the Necropolis. Every time I get a quest to take out Venatori, it reminds me of Dorian's quest in DAI: "That's why we kill them!"
Daria has 3 wolf statues while Ulric I think only has 1, or maybe 2? Both have unlocked the first Heart of Corruption champion but since it's level 35-45 and they are only 24-25, I'm leaving it for later. I'm finally getting a better grip on warrior combat, and Ulric is also a bit more tanky now being spec'd into Champion. Daria is a Duelist but I use the bow as much as the blades so need to put some points there too. Probably while I wait for the level 30 unlock for more Duelist nodes.

For that fight only...warrior was not fun. In case you weren't aware: Warriors have 2 nodes they can access very early on that allow them to extend their Shield Throws. 1st is in the warrior core and you probably know it. You can bash an incoming shield throw to toss the same shield throw three times. The 2nd one is less known. There's a node a bit into the Sustain section that lets you fire back projectiles using Perfect Defense. The trick is it also applies to your own shield throws with a SICK animation on top of it. These 2 allow you to extend your shield throw's lifetime and let you use it more consistently to get around the cooldown.

Even switching to the two handed weapon didn't really help with reach.

Davrin is a forced companion so make sure as a warrior to bring a mage to apply Weakened so you can do some reliable detonations every time they do that. I was a Champion with Blight Bane so it did a fuckton of fire damage too. Bellara has auto heals so she's the easy pick.

Thanks, though. Yeah np. I feel warriors have the hardest time here. I'd rate it Mage > Rogue >>> Warrior too so you aren't alone here. Just gotta invest in Fire damage. If you aren't Champion there's the spear and the forge abilities.

My last session was mostly Alethea running around Dock Town with the #1 and #2 LIs in the game, watching them flirt with each other. They work for me. Two serious professionals, although detective and contract killer aren't exactly similar professions. And they seem to come in pretty close to each other on the idealism/cynicism scale, which I think is important for a successful relationship. I liked the quests, but Dock Town's design is a bit much, isn't it? Navigation gets easier the further you get into the region, but still, a restaurant you have to reach by zipline? It's not actually a problem for gameplay, since all the alternative route attempts just lead you into hidden stuff. But I don't think I would have designed a city this way. I liked having a rescue mission where I'd already saved the targets but didn't know it. Screwed around for a lot because I didn't look left to see the path downstairs. If you get lost in this game, you can get really lost. Wrapped that up, anyway. So, now I've got a ton of Hossberg stuff left, plus Bellara meeting her brother and some Crossroads stuff. I think I'll knock all of that off before advancing the main plot through Grim Bonds. Alethea's wearing the Plate of the Paragon Unyielding. I hate transmog, but I'm not a fan of this look either.... But I guess dwarven armor would tend to run on the chunky side.

Went for a trip during the weekend, so had a break from the game. Anyway, Almost at the end of my rogue PT. Bellara’s quest is done. This was actually a surprisingly tough choice for me this time. This rook is a veil jumper and an elf, so he clearly has an interest in the past. However, he’s also disillusioned and tired of old God shenanigans, so I could easily imagine him wanting to start anew. Tried out both choices to see what felt best.
Bellara just explaining to my elf Veil jumper about Dalish funeral customs…
OK, so it turns out Rooks clan had a different custom. Makes sense, I guess, except she talks as though it’s a general Dalish custom and not specifically for her clan. Plus he’s a Veil Jumper, wouldn’t they have the same custom when someone dies?
I think I’m going to keep the archive. Already the talk with Bellara about it feels right for him. Taking the good things, rebuilding.
Taash asking Bellara how she’s doing because of her brother. Turns out they’re asking because they don’t want to think about how they’re doing because of their mother. Sweet banter except it’s in front of Rook, you know the guy Taash is dating. I feel like he’s a supportive bf, so why not talk to him?
Another banter with Bellara and Taash about having lost people. As someone who’s lost multiple loved ones, I can say that was a very sweet moment that made me sad and smile at the same time. They may be fictional characters, but it felt like a genuine moment that made me happy they found someone to share their grief with.
Dealt with the Butcher and found the identity of a traitor. Jacobus has disappeared and with the way he was coughing, I fear we’ll soon see what happened to him.
With the Butcher gone I can finally help Lucanis get revenge on his cousin. Didn’t get a say in how it was handled, because he was Hardened. Have to say, it felt rather lackluster, like sure he’s in prison, but he's still alive, so it didn’t really feel all that different to how my warden handled it.
Yep, Poor Jacobus has joined the ranks of the Darkspawn. Had to fight him before fighting a blighted Ivenci.
Back at the Lighthouse, Bellara wants to ask a question for her book/story. Somehow I can’t help but feel like it’s a self insert of a writer’s opinion.
Dealt with Aelia. Could see loot on the ground during the last cutscene, but of course I wasn’t allowed to get it. Now Neve gets to be the hope of Dock Town and partner up with Rana. Nice to finally see this, since she was hardened last PT.
Saw the last regret and got to talk to morrigan again. I could be wrong, but I think the conversation ended with an elf specific message from Mythal to her ‘children’. Super cool for my elf to experience.
Also a really nice pace this time around. Made sure not to use all the wolf statues immediately and also not collect them all in one go. Think my warden had everything done as soon as I got access to the inquisitor's statue, so felt like a lot of exposition at once.
Decided to fight the corruption before talking to Mythal, made no difference in regards to her, a bit boring. However what did make a difference was completing Bellaras quest. Gave me an instant win with her when I mentioned having dealt with Anaris.
Ended up getting the last few chests I had missed, so now there is only Point of no Return and Act 3 left to do.

Haha. That's the way I felt when I saw Viper for the first time. I poked around Minrathous a bit, and then realized, "I can't do this without Neve. Bond will be harder to build with her this time." I expected Minrathous to look much more blighted. It just looks like there were riots in the streets, thanks to the coup. Minrathous defends itself well against the dragon. You can hear from ambient dialogue that the most damage was actually from friendly fire. It's the Venatori coup that has time to happen if Rook doesn't get involved.

Speaking of this game's tremendous writing and noticing things in a second playthrough and thus noticing things upon the second playthrough that makes it fit in so much more. The game actually does a pretty good job of setting up the plots and implications of the companion quests early on within their first few scenes. Though in Neve's case it also happened to be within a main mission as well. And as I said this is going to be a running theme as I continue to look for certain stuff, especially for Harding's arc. Though in Harding's case another issue of 'using a character's special powers' before they actually technically have the big scene bit.
So my wife is very insistent then I include this but we had some fun shennangans running around in the world. First when running around the Markets doing shopping with Lucanis she thought instead of saying "Oh Great the markets are open today." For some reason she thought it was "Oh Great the Americans are running." I found this very friggin hillarious though because an Antivan, who is a Spanish Analogue, is talking about running Ameicans. Also something about Dock Town being Neve's favorite hole or something...when she actually said its her home.
More experimenting and thoughts. Been having some fun working on Bleeding and making note that Bleeding tends to seemingly be quite a good ability. Afterall I have been using Pilfer this time out. So this made me think of going after Cordova's toothpick sooner rather then later to try it out. Afterall the main reason I didn't use it for Ollie is I did like the sword he was using at the time but this time...well think it could be useful. And I am wondering how well it and Ariani's Talon will pair with one another. And double plus going to keep this in mind to because while bad guys can be resistant to shock, necrosis, cold, fire, etc...don't think too many are resistant to Bleeding. This does then further make me wonder just how effective it could be for future Oliver runs...if there will be such things. Heh. Early results are promising when I get up to 'five stacks of bleeding' does seem to just dissolve health quite readily. Will be most curious to see what this does against certain bosses in the future as well. Other note is that didn't go for it...and well I do tend to be bad at ARPGs so the whole Adrendaline thing is something that gives me some hesitancy since I am not sure I can avoid damage that much to make it worth it...am curious to see how it works because didn't get around to it with Ollie but am curious to see how it will work overall and if it can be adapted to an archer. Of course to take full advantage of it does require going into the Duelist spec and well...that's not going to happen.
Think I may bull rush getting the rest of the companions this time and then going back to do side quests before moving onto Weisshaupt. Though I will also be doing the small let companion scenes to.

Praise the Sun I finally found the 4th Grey Emblem.
There's a Davrin interactable in the Cauldron that leads up to a small platform that has the Grey Emblem jewelry box. It's stupidly easy to miss.
I love Precision and better yet I love that it will work with abilities. Should be perfect for my Mage and even more so on my Warden when I play him again in the distant future.
Now to find the 4th Heart...
Anyway now that I more or less have more experience with the various armor types, I think the Medium Armor options tend to have my favorite effects. The Warden ones have the best effects tbh. Heavy has the Deflect set and Medium has the Advantage set.

While I dislike blighted Treviso, the vibes in a normal Minrathous are pretty nice. Between wearing Hawke's armor, cracking jokes, and walking around a run down town it feels like I'm back in Kirkwall haha.
Also I've been enjoying the unhardened path for Neve more than I remember. Then again I might be biased cause the romance with a fellow Shadow has had such a sweet yearning vibe.

Running around with Harding and Taash, I've noticed that banter between them seems to have ceased. I can't have used it all up this early, so I take it there's some gating condition. A Lighthouse scene I haven't got yet?

Helped Taash defeat the Dragon King, then took Harding to see the Titan. Super interesting to see the other path this time. Went to a Dalish funeral next and explored Arlathan to 100%. Same as Hossberg Wetlands, and also took care of a blight eruption, a haunting and a champion. Saw the griffons at Lavendel, cuteness overload! Took Taash and Neve to Rivain Coast and also 100%ed it. Didn't think I was in the mood to go for that, but here we are... Finished Taash's arc and completed the spirit-y side quests. I really love Seer Rowan's voice, it's so soothing. On another note, I was thinking about the Calling and the Blights Yesterday evening I was thinking about how my Warden's story could eventually end... going into head canon territory. So I thought about discussing some things with you folks that know a lot more lore than me Spoilers for the ending and the implications from it, especially redeeming a certain someone. Can it be assumed that Wardens won't hear the Calling anymore now? With all the Archdemons and Ghilan'nain dead, there will be no more blights as we know them, though the darkspawn will remain, as will all blight still spread around Thedas I guess. I reckon the Wardens would still turn into ghouls at some point. But the darkspawn won't be hearing the song anymore that draws them to find the next Archdemon, so likely they are just mindless entities without direction now (besides the intelligent ones we encountered), unless the blight also still calls to them. When redeeming Solas, he says he will try to soothe the blight. Of course, we can't know what will really happen, just that maybe its whispers might decline and the connection between everything tainted could be dulled/broken? Would really love to hear people's thoughts on it. I'm kinda dying to replay all DA games and see the overarching story again Some more scenery:

omg why am I just noticing this? Harding's shade watches you while doing the Kal'sharok meeting mission. So fucking creepy. Hey gurl what's shapin? Figured I'd catch her in 4k. I knew it was her from previous playthroughs but I did not know she was also watching you. Creepy.

Saw a new thing with my Dwarf I didn't see with the Qunari. Spoilers for if you save Treviso. Figure the triggers are Saving Treviso and doing the side quests up to saving the Viper and maybe some progressing of the main story.
When going to put up the light for Brom I suddenly heard Viper speaking on the other side of the statue and had the option to light three lights for the fallen shadow dragons/citizens. It wasn't marked, no reward and he vanished after Brom's light was lit but it was very sweet.
Could also trigger it on the "Point of no return" save for the Qunari so if anyone missed it and wants a little memorial or just to enjoy the Vipers voice, there you go. I usually don't spend much time in Dock Town. Find the layout confusing and my game struggles with loading up the areas so am usually just running through the city half loaded. It's own kind of magical I guess. Really should spend some time there since there are details I am missing. Had some fun in photo mode during Lucanis last mission. Spoilers for said mission. Serious ballet practice in the opera. Teia wrecking the Venatori Viago being dashing. Alas I can't romance Illario so it's jail time for him. Blood of Arlathan spoilers Figured the talk between Neve and the fellow at the bridge would just be different flavours of X race is my servant so was delighted to find out that Dwarf Rook is instead referred as an associate from the Carta and a business partner instead of servant.
So ended up replaying the non combat section again with my other Rooks. Qunari and elf both get the servant line, but the elf is more a polite "Is this one with you?" and the Qunari is met with more hostility. Elves get their own special greeting at the start in elvish (Da'len. Garas lasa, da'len) while the others just got their pain acknowledged. Then there was a faction line for all of them. Elf was told the world would not remember their sacrifice but papa Elgar'nan could see their worth. Qunari got a line of learning how to master the chaos of the fade and Dwarf got promised treasures and fantastical sights (I can show you the world treasures!)
The Dwarf got "Gold. Glory. It can be yours." before he does his whole love me and kneel spiel. Figure it's connected to the Lords of Fortune, but hey, fits with dwarf too. The Qunari got nothing, just skipped to love and kneel. And like I'm impatient too but rude. The elf got "Child of my children. I will shower you with the glory of the ancients." so that's clearly race related, unless of course he wants to be the Wardens daddy. Also explains why this scene hit me way harder with the elf than the Qunari. Being a contemptible blood pervert and all.
Alas all the other Rooks are still in act 1. Dammnit. Made it to the Emmrichs last mission with the dwarf and am surprised which way I'm leaning about the choice. Tried both the Lich and the Mannfred way and was sure that I'd prefer the Mannfred one because I love him but am actually leaning more towards the Lich path. But I want my skelly son. But it feels more in tune with the dwarf to encourage Emmrich to follow up on his dreams. So once more it's on the ice while I waffle and lament my choices.

I'll be honest I think it was a mistake to add fast travel in the middle of zones, if only because of how good the banter is in establishing the relationship between these characters far more than you would normally get in a Dragon Age game.
It has recontextualized how I view some characters and their interpersonal relationships even on a third playthrough.

Over the past two days did some Crossroads Solas memories, Went and met Evka and Antoine and recruited Davrin and Assan and met The Gloom Howler. Had an unpleasant chat with Ghilin'Nain and fought her dragon till he ran away. Did some jobs in Blighted Treviso for Chance and tried chatting with a very unhappy Jacobus, Lucanis is sadly busy elsewhere. Did a lot of chatting with companions and had a chat with Solas. Headed to The Necropolis and recruited Emmrich and Manfred. I like The Necropolis artistically but find the minor quests tedious. Might skip those. Returned to Arlathan to let Assan stretch his wings and find some Truffles, did lots of puzzles and remembered to interact with the first mysterious ring and fought the Champion there. Had Bellara with us and did some Veil Jumper quests, think Arlathan is complete for now. Then back to The Lighthouse for more chatting and next off to recruit Taash. Really happy with Aurora after several tweaks to the original. i.postimg.cc/664c11kk/bandicam-2024-12-08-15-39-20-511.jpg
